Ashadeshwar temple is situated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. According to Kashi Khand, there is a story behind the establishment of the Shiv Ling.

Legend

Goddess Parvati asked Lord Shiva to explain the many Teerths (sacred lakes/ponds) and gods in Kashi. She was informed by Lord Shiva that all Lings had Teerths celestial powers. Lord Shiva spoke about Ashadeshwar Ling’s potency. When a devotee worships this Ling, all of his sins are forgiven (Kashi Khand 97).

The Ashadeshwar Temple is a standalone structure that is carefully kept. Many followers come to this shrine. While the original Ling (Kashi Khand) is visible on the temple’s rear side, a Ling was erected inside the sanctum sanctorum a century ago by a nobleman. Both Lings are worshipped by followers.
