About Bhagirateshwar Temple

Many ancient Shiva Temples could be witnessed in Kashi. one of them is the Bhagirateshwar Temple. The importance of this Temple is mentioned in Kashi Khand.

Legend

Sage Bindu was listening to Lord Vishnu as he described numerous holy sites to him (Kashi Khand, Chapter 61). Devotees are required to take a bath in Bhagirath Teerth and carry out ancestral rites. After then, the followers should worship Bhagirateshwar nearby.

The followers will be absolved of all their crimes, no matter how horrible they may be, by carrying out the aforementioned religious procedures. Currently, Bhagirath Teerth does not exist.
