Many ancient Shiva Temples could be witnessed in Kashi. one of them is the Bhara Bhooteshwar Temple. The importance of this Temple is mentioned in Kashi Khand.

While Lord Shiva was at Mandarachal, he dispatched a number of Shiv Gans to Kashi in an effort to stir up commotion and divert King Divodas. (Refer to Kukkuteshwar for information.) One Shiv Gan named Bhara Bhoot installed a Shiv Ling named Bhara Bhooteshwar in one of the batches.
The Mukti of devotees who worship this Ling in Kashi. According to Kashi Khand, Chapter 55, individuals who do not worship this deity will continue to be a burden on this planet, much like a large tree that bears no fruit.
