About Bheemeshwar Temple

Many ancient Shiva Temples could be witnessed in Kashi. one of them is the Bheemeshwar Temple. The importance of this Temple is mentioned in Kashi Khand. The location where Lord Shiva donned the skin of Gajasur after killing him was referred to as Rudra Vasam in Kashi Khand, Chapter 69. one can refer to Krithi Vaseshwar.

When the Lord was seated alongside Goddess Uma Devi in his guise as Krithi Vaseshwar, Nandi offered prayers and mentioned that there are 68 sites of devotion for Lord Shiva at this sacred location. Shiv Lings and other idols from several other locations have been erected in Kashi.

In order to provide happiness and grant Moksha to worshippers, the Lord took the form of Bheemeshwar and descended from Sapt Godavari Teerth to appear in Kashi. Even the most egregious misdeeds committed by any of the devotees who worship Bheemeshwar, who is to the east of Nakuleshwar, would be forgiven.

There are twelve Jyotirlingas in India, and in Kashi, there are twelve significant Shiv Lings that serve as representations of the aforementioned twelve Jyotirlingas. Bheema Shankar is the name given to the aforesaid god (Nashik-Pune Road, Maharashtra).
