The Dodda Ganapathi Temple also known as Basavanagudi Ganesh Temple is situated on the Bull Temple Road in Basavanagudi at a distance of 6 km from Bangalore City Railway Station. Built-in 1971, the temple has a unified figure of Bhagwan Ganesha with 18ft and 16ft in height and width. the Dodda Ganapathi Temple is one of the famous pilgrimage & tourist magnets in Bangalore.
The divinity in this temple is recognized as Shakthi Ganapathi also known as Satya Ganapathi. The deity is assumed to be expanding on its right side. The most famous ceremony of the temple is the butter coating which uses around 100 kg of butter. This butter is divided and shared with the devotees once in every four years. This is a magnificent sight at the temple and should be visited to witness.
History
The temple was built by the founder of Bangalore Kempegowda I. The story says that while he was roaming, he found several rocks and one of the rocks had the shape of Bhagwan Ganesha carved on them. He, consequently, commanded his sculptors to transform the shape into a large as well as a fantastic single-stone idol of Bhagwan Ganesha.
In the backyard of the Dodda Ganesa temple is the Bugle Rock Garden. The attractive classification of this huge flower lawn can be connected to a bugle bell siren made at the point of the most towering rock structure before the field was transformed into a garden to intimate the nearby inhabitants.
Religious Significance
This temple is famous for its Ganesha festival which draws visitants from everywhere. As the festival goes on for a week, the statue of Bhagwan Ganesh is enhanced in several ways.
The annual 3-day Groundnut festival is the most exciting event in the city. Kadlekai Parshe is colorful and interesting. The festival appears near the temple and also the traffic is slow throughout those days.
