Ganga Aditya temple is one of the 12 Aditya temples in Varanasi. Varanasi is the only place to have a large number of Surya temples.
Legend
According to chapter 51 in Kashi Khand, it is mentioned that when the holy river Ganga arrived in Varanasi, Lord Surya appeared before Ganga to adore her and it is said that since then he is posited at a place to adore the river Ganga.

This form of Surya at the Ghat of Ganga came to be known as Ganga Aditya.
A devotee who will pray to lord Surya with full devotion is free from every sin and illness. it is believed that lord Surya is highly concerned for his devotees. one who just has darshan of Ganga Aditya to get rid of all diseases.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Idol of Ganga Aditya was established at south of Agastya Kund along with idols of Ganga Keshav and Gangaji. But presently these three idols are established at Lalita Ghat.
