Maithili Thakur, also known as “The Voice of Mithila” is a young songster of India and voiced recognition of Indian classical and folk songs. She is indeed young but not an overnight success story.
The 4-year-little Maithili sang along with her grandfather as an interest in listening to music. At age 7 tutored by her father in Indian classical and folk songs, she sang in jagratas as an interest in singing. On the lookout for greater opportunities for Maithili, her father and family shifted to Delhi from Madhubani, a village in Bihar. Maithili auditioned for a couple of reality shows and couldn’t make it till the finale as she could only sing classical songs. Though disheartened she disciplined herself in Bollywood songs and gained 2nd position in Rising Stars in 2017.
Maithili Thakur didn’t stop there, winning the show was only an inaugural step toward success. She schooled herself in pop music and sang in Hindi, Marathi, Maithili, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Tamil, English, and more Indic languages and sings Ramcharitmanas to post on social media. This way she continued cultivating the world’s attention to Indian folk songs and the elegance of Indian languages. No wonder why her voice echoes from all over the world.
Maithili Thakur was awarded Atal Mithila Samman from the Government of India and also became the Brand Ambassador of Madhubani along with her two brothers. She took to the stage of a TED Talk and underlined what her father told her after winning Rising star, ” Log tumhe pehechante hai, ab ye tumhari zimmedari hai ki tum unko apne bare me bhulne na do,” ( Now that people know you, it becomes your responsibility to make yourself unforgettable to them) and she did so.
