Shadanana Ashtakam
The Shadanana Ashtakam is an eight-verse hymn that praises Kartikeya, highlighting his valor, wisdom, and divine qualities.
श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
agastiruvāca
Salutations to the lotus feet of the revered one, who is worshipped by the assembly of devotees.
अगस्तिरुवाच ।
namō:'stu vr̥ndārakavr̥ndavandya- pādāravindāya sudhākarāya
Salutations to the one with six faces, who possesses immense valor.
नमोऽस्तु वृन्दारकवृन्दवन्द्य-
ṣaḍānanāyāmitavikramāya gaurīhr̥dānandasamudbhavāya
Salutations to the one born from the heart of Gauri, who is the source of bliss.
पादारविन्दाय सुधाकराय ।
namō:'stu tubhyaṁ praṇatārtihantrē kartrē samastasya manōrathānām
Salutations to you, the remover of the sorrows of the humble,
षडाननायामितविक्रमाय
dātrē rathānāṁ paratārakasya hantrē pracaṇḍāsura tārakasya
the creator of all desires of the mind.
गौरीहृदानन्दसमुद्भवाय ॥ १ ॥
amūrtamūrtāya sahasramūrtayē guṇāya guṇyāya parātparāya
Salutations to the giver of chariots, the supreme savior,
नमोऽस्तु तुभ्यं प्रणतार्तिहन्त्रे
apārapārāya parāparāya namō:'stu tubhyaṁ śikhivāhanāya
the destroyer of the fierce demon Taraka.
कर्त्रे समस्तस्य मनोरथानाम् ।
namō:'stu tē brahmavidāṁ varāya digambarāyāmbara saṁsthitāya
To the formless form, the one with a thousand forms,
दात्रे रथानां परतारकस्य
hiraṇyavarṇāya hiraṇyabāhavē namō hiraṇyāya hiraṇyarētasē
to the one of qualities, the most exalted.
हन्त्रे प्रचण्डासुर तारकस्य ॥ २ ॥
tapaḥsvarūpāya tapōdhanāya tapaḥphalānāṁ pratipādakāya
To the one beyond limits, the supreme beyond duality,
अमूर्तमूर्ताय सहस्रमूर्तये
sadā kumārāya himāramāriṇē tr̥ṇīkr̥taiśvarya virāgiṇē namaḥ
salutations to you, who rides the peacock.
गुणाय गुण्याय परात्पराय ।
namō:'stu tubhyaṁ śarajanmanē vibhō prabhātasūryāruṇadantapaṅktayē
Salutations to you, the best among the knower of Brahman,
अपारपाराय परापराय
bālāya cābālaparākramāya ṣāṇmāturāyālamanāturāya
the one who is clad in the sky,
नमोऽस्तु तुभ्यं शिखिवाहनाय ॥ ३ ॥
mīḍhuṣṭamāyōttaramīḍhuṣē namō namō gaṇānāṁ patayē gaṇāya
the one with a golden complexion and golden arms.
नमोऽस्तु ते ब्रह्मविदां वराय
namō:'stu tē janmajarātigāya namō viśākhāya suśaktipāṇayē
Salutations to the golden one, the one with golden energy,
दिगम्बरायाम्बर संस्थिताय ।
sarvasya nāthasya kumārakāya krauñcārayē tārakamārakāya
the embodiment of penance, the one who is wealth of austerity.
हिरण्यवर्णाय हिरण्यबाहवे
svāhēya gāṅgēya ca kārtikēya śaivēya tubhyaṁ satataṁ namō:'stu
Salutations to the one who grants the fruits of penance,
नमो हिरण्याय हिरण्यरेतसे ॥ ४ ॥
iti skāndapurāṇē kāśīkhaṇḍē pañcaviṁśatitamō:'dhyāyē agastyaprōktaṁ ṣaḍānanāṣṭakam
to the eternal Kumar, the slayer of the snow-lion.
