Sri Tripura Bhairavi Kavacham
The Sri Tripura Bhairavi Kavacham is a protective hymn that invokes the blessings of Goddess Tripura Bhairavi for strength and safety.

श्रीपार्वत्युवाच –
kr̥pāṁ kuru jagannātha dharmajñōsi mahāmatē
Sri Parvati spoke –
देवदेव महादेव सर्वशास्त्रविशारद । कृपां कुरु जगन्नाथ धर्मज्ञोसि महामते ॥ १ ॥
bhairavī yā purā prōktā vidyā tripurapūrvikā
O Lord of Lords, Great God, expert in all scriptures,
भैरवी या पुरा प्रोक्ता विद्या त्रिपुरपूर्विका । तस्यास्तु कवचं दिव्यं मह्यं कथय तत्त्वतः ॥ २ ॥
tasyāstu kavacaṁ divyaṁ mahyaṁ kathaya tattvataḥ
Have mercy, O Lord of the Universe, you who know righteousness, O great-minded one.
तस्यास्तु वचनं श्रुत्वा जगाद जगदीश्वरः । अद्भुतं कवचं देव्या भैरव्या दिव्यरूपि वै ॥ ३ ॥
tasyāstu vacanaṁ śrutvā jagāda jagadīśvaraḥ
The Bhairavi, which was previously spoken, the knowledge of Tripura,
ईश्वर उवाच –
adbhutaṁ kavacaṁ dēvyā bhairavyā divyarūpi vai
Please tell me the divine armor of that, truly.
कथयामि महाविद्याकवचं सर्वदुर्लभम् ।
īśvara uvāca – kathayāmi mahāvidyākavacaṁ sarvadurlabham
Upon hearing that statement, the Lord of the Universe spoke,
शृणुष्व त्वं च विधिना श्रुत्वा गोप्यं तवापि तत् ॥ ४ ॥
śr̥ṇuṣva tvaṁ ca vidhinā śrutvā gōpyaṁ tavāpi tat
The wonderful armor of the goddess, indeed in the divine form.
यस्याः प्रसादात्सकलं बिभर्मि भुवनत्रयम् ।
yasyāḥ prasādātsakalaṁ bibharmi bhuvanatrayam
The Lord said –
यस्याः सर्वं समुत्पन्नं यस्यामद्यापि तिष्ठति ॥ ५ ॥
yasyāḥ sarvaṁ samutpannaṁ yasyāmadyāpi tiṣṭhati
I shall speak the great knowledge armor, which is very rare,
माता पिता जगद्धन्या जगद्ब्रह्मस्वरूपिणी ।
mātā pitā jagaddhanyā jagadbrahmasvarūpiṇī
Listen, and you too, by the rules, hear that which is to be kept secret.
सिद्धिदात्री च सिद्धास्स्यादसिद्धा दुष्टजन्तुषु ॥ ६ ॥
siddhidātrī ca siddhāssyādasiddhā duṣṭajantuṣu
By whose grace I bear the three worlds,
सर्वभूतप्रियङ्करी सर्वभूतस्वरूपिणी ।
sarvabhūtapriyaṅkarī sarvabhūtasvarūpiṇī
By whom everything is born, and even today remains.
ककारी पातु मां देवी कामिनी कामदायिनी ॥ ७ ॥
kakārī pātu māṁ dēvī kāminī kāmadāyinī
Mother, Father, the blessed of the universe, the embodiment of the universe,
एकारी पातु मां देवी मूलाधारस्वरूपिणी ।
ēkārī pātu māṁ dēvī mūlādhārasvarūpiṇī
The giver of accomplishments, and the Siddhas, and those who are not accomplished, among wicked beings.
ईकारी पातु मां देवी भूरिसर्वसुखप्रदा ॥ ८ ॥
īkārī pātu māṁ dēvī bhūrisarvasukhapradā
The beloved of all beings, the embodiment of all beings.
लकारी पातु मां देवी इन्द्राणीवरवल्लभा ।
lakārī pātu māṁ dēvī indrāṇīvaravallabhā
May the goddess protect me, the Devi, the desire-fulfilling one.
ह्रीङ्कारी पातु मां देवी सर्वदा शम्भुसुन्दरी ॥ ९ ॥
hrīṅkārī pātu māṁ dēvī sarvadā śambhusundarī
May the goddess protect me, the Devi, the embodiment of the root chakra.
एतैर्वर्णैर्महामाया शाम्भवी पातु मस्तकम् ।
ētairvarṇairmahāmāyā śāmbhavī pātu mastakam
May the goddess protect me with the sound "ī", who grants abundant happiness.
ककारी पातु मां देवी शर्वाणी हरगेहिनी ॥ १० ॥
kakārī pātu māṁ dēvī śarvāṇī haragēhinī
May the goddess protect me with the sound "la", who is beloved by Indrāṇī.
मकारी पातु मां देवी सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी ।
makārī pātu māṁ dēvī sarvapāpapraṇāśinī
May the goddess protect me with the sound "hrī", who is always the beautiful consort of Shiva.
ककारी पातु मां देवी कामरूपधरा सदा ॥ ११ ॥
kakārī pātu māṁ dēvī kāmarūpadharā sadā
May the great illusion, Shambhavi, protect my head with these letters.
काकारी पातु मां देवी शम्बरारिप्रिया सदा ।
kākārī pātu māṁ dēvī śambarāripriyā sadā
May the goddess protect me with the sound "ka", who is the divine mother and the destroyer of all sins.
पकारी पातु मां देवी धराधरणिरूपधृक् ॥ १२ ॥
pakārī pātu māṁ dēvī dharādharaṇirūpadhr̥k
May the goddess protect me with the sound "ma", who is the remover of all sins.
ह्रीङ्कारी पातु मां देवी आकारार्धशरीरिणी ।
hrīṅkārī pātu māṁ dēvī ākārārdhaśarīriṇī
May the goddess protect me with the sound "ka", who always takes the form of desire.
एतैर्वर्णैर्महामाया कामराहुप्रियाऽवतु ॥ १३ ॥
ētairvarṇairmahāmāyā kāmarāhupriyā:'vatu
May the goddess protect me with the sound "kā", who is always dear to the enemy of Shambara.
मकारः पातु मां देवी सावित्री सर्वदायिनी ।
makāraḥ pātu māṁ dēvī sāvitrī sarvadāyinī
May the goddess protect me with the sound "pa", who holds the form of the earth.
ककारः पातु सर्वत्र कलाम्बा सर्वरूपिणी ॥ १४ ॥
kakāraḥ pātu sarvatra kalāmbā sarvarūpiṇī
May the goddess protect me with the sound "hrī", who embodies half the form.
लकारः पातु मां देवी लक्ष्मीः सर्वसुलक्षणा ।
lakāraḥ pātu māṁ dēvī lakṣmīḥ sarvasulakṣaṇā
May the great illusion, dear to the desires, protect me with these letters.
ओं ह्रीं मां पातु सर्वत्र देवी त्रिभुवनेश्वरी ॥ १५ ॥
ōṁ hrīṁ māṁ pātu sarvatra dēvī tribhuvanēśvarī
May the sound "ma" protect me, O goddess Savitrī, who is always benevolent.
एतैर्वर्णैर्महामाया पातु शक्तिस्वरूपिणी ।
ētairvarṇairmahāmāyā pātu śaktisvarūpiṇī
May the sound "ka" protect everywhere, O goddess Kalāmbā, who takes all forms.
वाग्भवा मस्तकं पातु वदनं कामराजिता ॥ १६ ॥
vāgbhavā mastakaṁ pātu vadanaṁ kāmarājitā
May the sound "la" protect me, O goddess Lakshmi, who is endowed with all auspicious qualities.
शक्तिस्वरूपिणी पातु हृदयं यन्त्रसिद्धिदा ।
śaktisvarūpiṇī pātu hr̥dayaṁ yantrasiddhidā
Om, hrīṁ, may the goddess protect me everywhere, O goddess of the three worlds.
सुन्दरी सर्वदा पातु सुन्दरी परिरक्षतु ॥ १७ ॥
sundarī sarvadā pātu sundarī parirakṣatu
May the great illusion, embodied in these colors, protect me.
रक्तवर्णा सदा पातु सुन्दरी सर्वदायिनी ।
raktavarṇā sadā pātu sundarī sarvadāyinī
May the goddess of speech protect my head, and may the one who is desired in love protect my face.
नानालङ्कारसम्युक्ता सुन्दरी पातु सर्वदा ॥ १८ ॥
nānālaṅkārasamyuktā sundarī pātu sarvadā
May the embodiment of power protect my heart, granting success in all endeavors.
सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरी पातु सर्वत्र शिवदायिनी ।
sarvāṅgasundarī pātu sarvatra śivadāyinī
May the beautiful one always protect me, and may she always safeguard me.
जगदाह्लादजननी शम्भुरूपा च मां सदा ॥ १९ ॥
jagadāhlādajananī śambhurūpā ca māṁ sadā
May the red-hued one always protect the beautiful, eternal goddess.
सर्वमन्त्रमयी पातु सर्वसौभाग्यदायिनी ।
sarvamantramayī pātu sarvasaubhāgyadāyinī
May the beautiful one adorned with various ornaments protect me always.
सर्वलक्ष्मीमयी देवी परमानन्ददायिनी ॥ २० ॥
sarvalakṣmīmayī dēvī paramānandadāyinī
May the all-beautiful goddess protect all my limbs and grant auspiciousness everywhere.
पातु मां सर्वदा देवी नानाशङ्खनिधिः शिवा ।
pātu māṁ sarvadā dēvī nānāśaṅkhanidhiḥ śivā
May the mother who brings joy to the world, who embodies Shiva, always protect me.
पातु पद्मनिधिर्देवी सर्वदा शिवदायिनी ॥ २१ ॥
pātu padmanidhirdēvī sarvadā śivadāyinī
May the goddess who is the essence of all mantras protect me, bestowing all good fortune.
पातु मां दक्षिणामूर्ति ऋषिः सर्वत्र मस्तके ।
pātu māṁ dakṣiṇāmūrti r̥ṣiḥ sarvatra mastakē
May the goddess, who is the embodiment of all wealth and the giver of supreme bliss, protect me always.
पङ्क्तिश्छन्दः स्वरूपा तु मुखे पातु सुरेश्वरी ॥ २२ ॥
paṅktiśchandaḥ svarūpā tu mukhē pātu surēśvarī
May the goddess, who is the treasure of various doubts and is auspicious, always protect me.
गन्धाष्टकात्मिका पातु हृदयं शङ्करी सदा ।
gandhāṣṭakātmikā pātu hr̥dayaṁ śaṅkarī sadā
May the goddess of the lotus, who is always auspicious, protect me.
सर्वसंमोहिनी पातु पातु सङ्क्षोभिणी सदा ॥ २३ ॥
sarvasaṁmōhinī pātu pātu saṅkṣōbhiṇī sadā
May the sage Dakshinamurti protect my head everywhere.
सर्वसिद्धिप्रदा पातु सर्वाकर्षणकारिणी ।
sarvasiddhipradā pātu sarvākarṣaṇakāriṇī
May the goddess of the divine protect my face, as she is the essence of the meter.
क्षोभिणी सर्वदा पातु वशिनी सर्वदावतु ॥ २४ ॥
kṣōbhiṇī sarvadā pātu vaśinī sarvadāvatu
May the goddess who embodies the essence of fragrance always protect my heart, the consort of Shiva.
आकर्षिणी सदा पातु सदा संमोहिनी तथा ।
ākarṣiṇī sadā pātu sadā saṁmōhinī tathā
May the all-enchanting one protect me always.
रतिदेवी सदा पातु भगाङ्गा सर्वदावतु ॥ २५ ॥
ratidēvī sadā pātu bhagāṅgā sarvadāvatu
May the one who causes all accomplishments protect me.
माहेश्वरी सदा पातु कौमारी सर्वदावतु ।
māhēśvarī sadā pātu kaumārī sarvadāvatu
May the one who causes agitation protect me always; may the one who brings everything under control protect me always.
सर्वाह्लादनकारी मां पातु सर्ववशङ्करी ॥ २६ ॥
sarvāhlādanakārī māṁ pātu sarvavaśaṅkarī
May the one who attracts always protect me; may the all-enchanting one protect me likewise.
क्षेमङ्करी सदा पातु सर्वाङ्गं सुन्दरी तथा ।
kṣēmaṅkarī sadā pātu sarvāṅgaṁ sundarī tathā
May the goddess of love protect me always; may the divine one protect me always.
सर्वाङ्गं युवती सर्वं सर्वसौभाग्यदायिनी ॥ २७ ॥
sarvāṅgaṁ yuvatī sarvaṁ sarvasaubhāgyadāyinī
May the great goddess protect me always; may the youthful goddess protect me always.
वाग्देवी सर्वदा पातु वाणी मां सर्वदावतु ।
vāgdēvī sarvadā pātu vāṇī māṁ sarvadāvatu
May the one who brings all joy protect me; may the one who makes all submissive protect me.
वशिनी सर्वदा पातु महासिद्धिप्रदावतु ॥ २८ ॥
vaśinī sarvadā pātu mahāsiddhipradāvatu
May the one who brings peace always protect me; may the beautiful one protect all my limbs likewise.
सर्वविद्राविणी पातु गणनाथा सदावतु ।
sarvavidrāviṇī pātu gaṇanāthā sadāvatu
May the youthful one protect all my limbs; may she who grants all auspiciousness protect everything.
दुर्गादेवी सदा पातु वटुकः सर्वदावतु ॥ २९ ॥
durgādēvī sadā pātu vaṭukaḥ sarvadāvatu
May the goddess of speech protect me always; may the divine voice protect me always.
क्षेत्रपालः सदा पातु पातु चाशान्तिदा ।
kṣētrapālaḥ sadā pātu pātu cāśāntidā
May the one who brings everything under control protect me always; may the great giver of accomplishments protect me.
अनन्तः सर्वदा पातु वराहः सर्वदावतु ॥ ३० ॥
anantaḥ sarvadā pātu varāhaḥ sarvadāvatu
May the one who causes all disturbances protect me; may the lord of the hosts protect me always.
पृथिवी सर्वदा पातु स्वर्णसिंहासनस्तथा ।
pr̥thivī sarvadā pātu svarṇasiṁhāsanastathā
May the goddess Durga protect me always; may the little one protect me always.
रक्तामृतश्च सततं पातु मां सर्वकालतः ॥ ३१ ॥
raktāmr̥taśca satataṁ pātu māṁ sarvakālataḥ
May the protector of the field protect me always; may the one who grants peace protect me.
सुधार्णवः सदा पातु कल्पवृक्षः सदावतु ।
sudhārṇavaḥ sadā pātu kalpavr̥kṣaḥ sadāvatu
May the infinite one protect me always; may the boar protect me always.
श्वेतच्छत्रं सदा पातु रत्नदीपः सदावतु ॥ ३२ ॥
śvētacchatraṁ sadā pātu ratnadīpaḥ sadāvatu
May the earth always protect me, as well as the golden throne.
सततं नन्दनोद्यानं पातु मां सर्वसिद्धये ।
satataṁ nandanōdyānaṁ pātu māṁ sarvasiddhayē
May the nectar of life always protect me at all times.
दिक्पालाः सर्वदा पान्तु द्वन्द्वौघाः सकलास्तथा ॥ ३३ ॥
dikpālāḥ sarvadā pāntu dvandvaughāḥ sakalāstathā
May the ocean of nectar always protect me, and may the wish-fulfilling tree always guard me.
वाहनानि सदा पान्तु सर्वदाऽस्त्राणि पान्तु मां ।
vāhanāni sadā pāntu sarvadā:'strāṇi pāntu māṁ
May the white umbrella always protect me, and may the jewel lamp always guard me.
शस्त्राणि सर्वदा पान्तु योगिन्यः पान्तु सर्वदा ॥ ३४ ॥
śastrāṇi sarvadā pāntu yōginyaḥ pāntu sarvadā
May the eternal Nandana garden protect me for all accomplishments.
सिद्धाः पान्तु सदा देवी सर्वसिद्धिप्रदावतु ।
siddhāḥ pāntu sadā dēvī sarvasiddhipradāvatu
May the guardians of the directions always protect me, as well as the dual forces in all respects.
सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरी देवी सर्वदावतु मां तथा ॥ ३५ ॥
sarvāṅgasundarī dēvī sarvadāvatu māṁ tathā
May the vehicles always protect me, and may all women protect me at all times.
आनन्दरूपिणी देवी चित्स्वरूपा चिदात्मिका ।
ānandarūpiṇī dēvī citsvarūpā cidātmikā
May the weapons always protect me, and may the yoginis protect me forever.
सर्वदा सुन्दरी पातु सुन्दरी भवसुन्दरी ॥ ३६ ॥
sarvadā sundarī pātu sundarī bhavasundarī
May the perfected beings always protect me, and may the goddess grant all accomplishments.
पृथग्देवालये घोरे सङ्कटे दुर्गमे गिरौ ।
pr̥thagdēvālayē ghōrē saṅkaṭē durgamē girau
May the goddess, who is beautiful in all limbs, always protect me as well.
अरण्ये प्रान्तरे वाऽपि पातु मां सुन्दरी सदा ॥ ३७ ॥
araṇyē prāntarē vā:'pi pātu māṁ sundarī sadā
May the goddess, who embodies bliss and is of the nature of consciousness, always protect me.
इदं कवचमित्युक्तं मन्त्रोद्धारश्च पार्वति ।
idaṁ kavacamityuktaṁ mantrōddhāraśca pārvati
May the beautiful one always protect me, the beautiful one who is the beauty of existence.
यः पठेत्प्रयतो भूत्वा त्रिसन्ध्यं नियतः शुचिः ॥ ३८ ॥
yaḥ paṭhētprayatō bhūtvā trisandhyaṁ niyataḥ śuciḥ
In the terrifying temple, in the midst of distress, on the difficult mountain,
तस्य सर्वार्थसिद्धिः स्याद्यद्यन्मनसि वर्तते ।
tasya sarvārthasiddhiḥ syādyadyanmanasi vartatē
Or in the wilderness or any other place, may the beautiful one always protect me.
गोरोचनाकुङ्कुमेन रक्तचन्दनकेन वा ॥ ३९ ॥
gōrōcanākuṅkumēna raktacandanakēna vā
This is called the armor, and the mantra is invoked by Parvati.
स्वयम्भूकुसुमैश्शुक्लैः भूमिपुत्रे शनौ सुरे ।
svayambhūkusumaiśśuklaiḥ bhūmiputrē śanau surē
Whoever reads this with effort, being pure and disciplined at the three junctions of the day,
श्मशाने प्रान्तरे वापि शून्यागारे शिवालये ॥ ४० ॥
śmaśānē prāntarē vāpi śūnyāgārē śivālayē
For them, all desires will be fulfilled if they dwell in their mind.
स्वशक्त्या गुरुणा यन्त्रं पूजयित्वा कुमारिकां ।
svaśaktyā guruṇā yantraṁ pūjayitvā kumārikāṁ
With golden saffron or red sandalwood,
तन्मनुं पूजयित्वा च गुरुपङ्क्तिं तथैव च ॥ ४१ ॥
tanmanuṁ pūjayitvā ca gurupaṅktiṁ tathaiva ca
Or with white flowers of the self-born, offered to the Earth’s son, the Lord.
देव्यै बलिं निवेद्याथ नरमार्जारसूकरैः ।
dēvyai baliṁ nivēdyātha naramārjārasūkaraiḥ
In a cremation ground, in a deserted place, or in a sacred abode,
नकुलैर्महिषैर्मेषैः पूजयित्वा विधानतः ॥ ४२ ॥
nakulairmahiṣairmēṣaiḥ pūjayitvā vidhānataḥ
Worshiping with one's own power the yantra, and the maiden,
धृत्वा सुवर्णमध्यस्थं कण्ठे वा दक्षिणे भुजे ।
dhr̥tvā suvarṇamadhyasthaṁ kaṇṭhē vā dakṣiṇē bhujē
And also worshiping the mind and the lineage of the guru,
सुतिथौ शुभनक्षत्रे सूर्यस्योदयने तथा ॥ ४३ ॥
sutithau śubhanakṣatrē sūryasyōdayanē tathā
After offering a sacrifice to the goddess with a man, a cat, or a pig,
धारयित्वा च कवचं सर्वसिद्धिं लभेन्नरः ।
dhārayitvā ca kavacaṁ sarvasiddhiṁ labhēnnaraḥ
And with jackals, buffaloes, and sheep, performing the ritual properly,
कवचस्य च माहात्म्यं नाहं वर्षशतैरपि ॥ ४४ ॥
kavacasya ca māhātmyaṁ nāhaṁ varṣaśatairapi
Holding the gold placed in the middle, on the neck or the right arm,
शक्नोमि तु महेशानि वक्तुं तस्य फलं तु यत् ।
śaknōmi tu mahēśāni vaktuṁ tasya phalaṁ tu yat
At an auspicious time, under a favorable star, at sunrise,
न दुर्भिक्षफलं तत्र न शत्रोः पीडनं तथा ॥ ४५ ॥
na durbhikṣaphalaṁ tatra na śatrōḥ pīḍanaṁ tathā
By holding the armor, a person will attain all accomplishments.
सर्वविघ्नप्रशमनं सर्वव्याधिविनाशनम् ।
sarvavighnapraśamanaṁ sarvavyādhivināśanam
The greatness of the armor, I cannot describe even in a hundred years,
सर्वरक्षाकरं जन्तोश्चतुर्वर्गफलप्रदम् ॥ ४६ ॥
sarvarakṣākaraṁ jantōścaturvargaphalapradam
But, O great goddess, I can tell you the fruit of it:
यत्र कुत्र न वक्तव्यं न दातव्यं कदाचन ।
yatra kutra na vaktavyaṁ na dātavyaṁ kadācana
There is no fruit of famine there, nor any oppression from enemies.
मन्त्रप्राप्य विधानेन पूजयेत्सततं सुधीः ॥ ४७ ॥
mantraprāpya vidhānēna pūjayētsatataṁ sudhīḥ
The remover of all obstacles, the destroyer of all diseases,
तत्रापि दुर्लभं मन्ये कवचं देवरूपिणम् ।
tatrāpi durlabhaṁ manyē kavacaṁ dēvarūpiṇam
The protector of all beings, bestower of the fourfold fruits of life.
गुरोः प्रसादमासाद्य विद्यां प्राप्य सुगोपिताम् ॥ ४८ ॥
gurōḥ prasādamāsādya vidyāṁ prāpya sugōpitām
Wherever it should not be spoken or given at any time,
तत्रापि कवचं दिव्यं दुर्लभं भुवनत्रये ।
tatrāpi kavacaṁ divyaṁ durlabhaṁ bhuvanatrayē
The wise should always worship by obtaining the mantra through proper means.
श्लोकं वा स्तवमेकं वा यः पठेत्प्रयतः शुचिः ॥ ४९ ॥
ślōkaṁ vā stavamēkaṁ vā yaḥ paṭhētprayataḥ śuciḥ
There, even the divine armor is considered rare, resembling the form of the deity.
तस्य सर्वार्थसिद्धिः स्याच्छङ्करेण प्रभाषितम् ।
tasya sarvārthasiddhiḥ syācchaṅkarēṇa prabhāṣitam
By attaining the grace of the guru, one obtains the well-hidden knowledge.
गुरुर्देवो हरः साक्षात्पत्नी तस्य च पार्वती ॥ ५० ॥
gururdēvō haraḥ sākṣātpatnī tasya ca pārvatī
Even there, the divine armor is rare in the three worlds.
अभेदेन यजेद्यस्तु तस्य सिद्धिरदूरतः ॥ ५१ ॥
abhēdēna yajēdyastu tasya siddhiradūrataḥ
Whoever recites a single verse or hymn with effort and purity,
इति श्रीरुद्रयामले भैरवभैरवीसंवादे श्री त्रिपुरभैरवी कवचम् ॥
iti śrīrudrayāmalē bhairavabhairavīsaṁvādē śrī tripurabhairavī kavacam
For them, all their desires will be fulfilled, as proclaimed by Shankara.
