ों बरहमणे नमः
oṃ brahmaṇe namaḥ
Om, I bow to the Supreme Brahman.
मूलाधारे वारिजपत्रे छतरसरे वं शं Śं सं वरणविशालं सुविशालम
mūlādhāre vārijapatre chatarasre vaṃ śaṃ Śaṃ saṃ varṇaviśālaṃ suviśālam
In the root of the Muladhara, beneath the lotus, resides the vast and glorious Lord, Shambhu.
रकतं वरणे शरीगणनाथं भगवनतं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
raktaṃ varṇe śrīgaṇanāthaṃ bhagavantaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
In the red hue of the sacred space, I bow to the Lord of all beings, the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
सवाधिŚठाने Śटदल पदमे तनुलिङगं बालां तं तदवरणमयाभं सुविशालम
svādhiŚṭhāne Śaṭdala padme tanuliṅgaṃ bālāṃ taṃ tadvarṇamayābhaṃ suviśālam
In the sacred abode, amidst the six-petaled lotus, I bow to the youthful form of the Lord, the vast and glorious one.
पीतं वरणं वाकपतिरूपं दरुहिणं तं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
pītaṃ varṇaṃ vākpatirūpaṃ druhiṇaṃ taṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
In the yellow hue of the sacred space, resembling the Lord of Speech, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
नाभौपदमं पत्रदशाढयं ड फ वरणं लकŚमीकानतं गरुडारूढं नरवीरम
nābhaupadmaṃ patradaśāḍhyaṃ ḍa pha varṇaṃ lakŚmīkāntaṃ garuḍārūḍhaṃ naravīram
In the navel's center, adorned with petals, I bow to the Lord of Lakshmi, who rides the mighty Garuda, the hero among men.
नीलं वरणं निरगुणरूपं निगमानतं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
nīlaṃ varṇaṃ nirguṇarūpaṃ nigamāntaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
In the blue hue of the sacred space, embodying the formless essence, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
हृ^ितपदमानते दवादशपत्रे क ठ वरणे शैवं सामबं पारमहंसयं रमयनतम
hṛ^itpadmānte dvādaśapatre ka ṭha varṇe śaivaṃ sāmbaṃ pāramahaṃsyaṃ ramayantam
In the heart's abode, amidst the twelve petals, I bow to the Lord of the Shambhavi, the Supreme Paramahamsa.
सरगत्राणादयनत करंतं शिवरूपं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
sargatrāṇādyanta karaṃtaṃ śivarūpaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
In the sacred form of Shiva, who grants protection and refuge, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
कणठसथाने छकरविशुदधे कमलानते छनदराकारे Śोडशपत्रे सवरयुकते
kaṇṭhasthāne chakraviśuddhe kamalānte chandrākāre Śoḍaśapatre svarayukte
In the throat's center, amidst the pure sixteen petals, I bow to the lotus-like form of the Lord.
मायाधीशं जीवविशेŚं सथितिमनतं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
māyādhīśaṃ jīvaviśeŚaṃ sthitimantaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
To the Lord of Illusion, who resides in the essence of life, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
ाज्ञाछकरे भरूयुगमधये दविदलानते हं कŚं बीजं ज्ञानसमुदरं परमनतम
ājñāchakre bhrūyugamadhye dvidalānte haṃ kŚaṃ bījaṃ jñānasamudraṃ paramantam
In the center of the two eyebrows, where the seed of wisdom lies, I bow to the ocean of knowledge, the Supreme.
विदयुदवरणंसयातमसवरूपं निगमागरिं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
vidyudvarṇaṃsyātmasvarūpaṃ nigamāgriṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
In the form of lightning, illuminating the darkness, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
मूरधनिसथाने पत्रसहसरैरयुत पदमे पीयूŚाबधेरनतरङगं तममृ^ितौछम
mūrdhnisthāne patrasahasrairyuta padme pīyūŚābdherantaraṅgaṃ tamamṛ^itaucham
In the crown of the head, adorned with a thousand petals, I bow to the essence of immortality, the Lord of the universe.
हंसाखयं तं रूपमतीतं छ तुरीयं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
haṃsākhyaṃ taṃ rūpamatītaṃ cha turīyaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
To the swan-like form, transcending all, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
बरहमाननदं बरहममुकुनदादि सुरूपं बरहमज्ञानं ज्ञानमयं तं तमरूपम
brahmānandaṃ brahmamukundādi surūpaṃ brahmajñānaṃ jñānamayaṃ taṃ tamarūpam
To the bliss of Brahman, the essence of all forms, the embodiment of knowledge, I bow to that divine form.
बरहमज्ञानं ज्ञानि मुनीनदरै रुछितांङगं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
brahmajñānaṃ jñāni munīndrai ruchitāṃṅgaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
To the knowledge of Brahman, cherished by the wise sages, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
शानताकारं शेŚशयानं सुरवनदयं लकŚमीकानतं कोमलगात्रं कमलाकŚम
śāntākāraṃ śeŚaśayānaṃ suravandyaṃ lakŚmīkāntaṃ komalagātraṃ kamalākŚam
In the serene form, resting on the serpent bed, the Lord of the celestial realm, I bow to the delicate form of the lotus-eyed one.
छिनतारतनं छिदघनपूरणं दविजराजं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
chintāratnaṃ chidghanapūrṇaṃ dvijarājaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
To the jewel of the twice-born, who fills the void with divine essence, I bow to the Divine Guru, Dattatreya.
छितोंकारैः सङगनिनादैः तिवेदयैः कादिकŚानतैरहयकŚरवरणैः परिपूरणम
chitoṁkāraiḥ saṅganinādaiḥ ativedyaiḥ kādikŚāntairhyakŚaravarṇaiḥ paripūrṇam
With the sound of the sacred syllables, resonating through the three Vedas, I bow to the complete and perfect form.
वेदानतावेदयैसतछछ ज्ञानैरनुवेदयं दततात्रेयं शरीगुरुमूरतिं परणतो.समि
vedāntāvedyaistachcha jñānairanuvedyaṃ dattātreyaṃ śrīgurumūrtiṃ praṇato.asmi
With the essence of the Vedas, I bow to the form of the Guru, the embodiment of knowledge, who reveals the truth.
ाधारे लिङग नाभौ हृ^िदय सरसिजे
ādhāre liṅga nābhau hṛ^idaya sarasije
In the sacred center, at the navel, in the heart's lotus, I find my refuge.
तालुमूले ललाटे दवेपत्रे Śोडशारे
tālumūle lalāṭe dvepatre Śoḍaśāre
At the root of the Tala tree, on the forehead, in the sixteen petals, I seek the divine.
दविदश? दशदले दवादशरये छतुŚके
dvidaśa? daśadale dvādaśarye chatuŚke
In the tenfold petals, in the twelve rays, in the four quarters, I offer my devotion.
(Śटदल) वासांते बालमधये डफ कठ सहिते
(Śaṭdala) vāsāṃte bālamadhye ḍapha kaṭha sahite
In the midst of the six petals, with the drum and the conch, I surrender.
कणठदेशे सवराणां हंकŚं तछछारथयुकतम
kaṇṭhadeśe svarāṇāṃ haṃkŚaṃ tachchārthayuktam
In the throat region, where the sounds of the universe resonate, I chant the sacred syllable.
सकल दलगतं वरणेरूपं नमामि
sakala dalagataṃ varṇerūpaṃ namāmi
I bow to the essence that pervades all petals, the divine form.
हंसो गणेशो विधिरेव हंसो हंसो हरिरहंसमयशछ शमभुः
haṃso gaṇeśo vidhireva haṃso haṃso harirhaṃsamayaścha śambhuḥ
The swan, Ganesh, the creator, the swan, the embodiment of Hari, the supreme bliss.
हंसो.हमातमा परमातम हंसो हंसो हि जीवो गुरुरेव हंसः
haṃso.ahamātmā paramātma haṃso haṃso hi jīvo gurureva haṃsaḥ
The swan, the supreme soul, the ultimate reality, the swan, indeed the Guru is the swan.
गमागमसथंगमनादिरूपं छिदरूपरूपं तिमिरापहारम
gamāgamasthaṃgamanādirūpaṃ chidrūparūpaṃ timirāpahāram
The form of the beginning and the end, the essence that dispels darkness, I bow to the swan, the supreme reality.
पशयामितंसरवजनांतरसथं नमामि हंसं परमातमरूपम
paśyāmitaṃsarvajanāṃtarasthaṃ namāmi haṃsaṃ paramātmarūpam
To the swan, the ultimate reality, who dwells in the hearts of all beings, I offer my reverence.
हंसहंसेति यो बरूयादयोवैनाम सदाशिवः
haṃsahaṃseti yo brūyādyovaināma sadāśivaḥ
He who chants 'Hamsa, Hamsa' is indeed the eternal Shiva.
मानवसतपठेननितयं बरहमलोकं सगछCहति
mānavastapaṭhennityaṃ brahmalokaṃ sagachChati
By the practice of this sacred chant, one reaches the realms of Brahman.
िति शरी जपाजपसतोत्रं समापतं
iti śrī ajapājapastotraṃ samāptaṃ
Thus concludes the Ajapajapa Stotra, a hymn of devotion.

dattātreya aŚṭachakrabījastotram ṇotes: 1. verse 1 to 7 give the distribution of the syllables to the chakra and other information like their region, color, etc and deities - ganeśa, brahma, viśnu, and Śiva. 2. verse 8, 9 and 10 are the triple forms of ḍattatreya of brahma, viśnu, and Śiva. 3. verse 11, 12, 13, and 14 are more like summaries vith explanations of the ajapā japa mantra of ḥamsa. 4. ṭhe last is the closing verse. 5. verses 11 and 12 have only three lines each as it is the extract or summary, a form of `at a quick glance' of previous verses (1 to 10) and the group of 13 and 14 verses pertains to ajapa-japa. encoded and
