Bilvashtakam 2

The three-leaved, three-gunned, three-eyed Lord,

The remover of the sins of three births, I offer one bilva leaf to Shiva.

With three branches and bilva leaves that are unbroken, tender, and auspicious,

I will perform your worship, offering one bilva leaf to Shiva.

A donation of millions of daughters, and the mountains of til,

With the gold of the mountains, I offer one bilva leaf to Shiva.

The abode of Kashi, and the sight of Kalabhairava,

Seeing Madhava at Prayag, I offer one bilva leaf to Shiva.

In the moonlit vow, remaining without food, O Lord of Lords,

I will not eat at night, offering one bilva leaf to Shiva.

The establishment of the Rāmaliṅga, and the marriage rites,

And the offspring of the lakes, I offer one bilva leaf to Shiva.

The unbroken bilva leaves, and the worship of Shiva by the thousands,

With the name of Shiva offered, I present one bilva leaf to Shiva.

With Uma, and the Lord, and Nandi as the vehicle.

Applying ash all over the body, offering a single bilva leaf to Shiva,

In the sacred lakes of Salagrama, for the Brahmins,

Offering a single bilva leaf to Shiva is equal to a million sacrifices,

Among millions of elephants, during the Ashvamedha sacrifice,

Offering a single bilva leaf to Shiva is equal to a great donation of countless maidens,

Seeing bilva leaves is auspicious, touching them removes sins,

Offering a single bilva leaf to Shiva destroys all terrible sins,

In the recitation of a thousand Vedas, one is freed from Brahma's curse,

Offering a single bilva leaf to Shiva is equal to countless vows,

In the giving of thousands of meals, and the offering of thousands of eyes,

Offering a single bilva leaf to Shiva removes the sins of many lifetimes,

This bilva octet is auspicious; whoever recites it in the presence of Shiva,

Will attain the abode of Shiva by offering a single bilva leaf.
