Purusha Sukta Vidhana Purvaka Shodasopachara Puja

Om, I meditate on the revered ______.
स॒हस्र॑शीर्षा॒ पुरु॑षः । स॒ह॒स्रा॒क्षः स॒हस्र॑पात् ।
sa bhūmi̍ṃ vi̱śvato̍ vṛ̱tvā
Invoking –
स भूमिं॑ वि॒श्वतो॑ वृ॒त्वा । अत्य॑तिष्ठद्दशाङ्गु॒लम् ।
atya̍tiṣṭhaddaśāṅgu̱lam
The person with a thousand heads,
ओं श्री ______ नमः आवाहयामि । आसनम् –
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ āvāhayāmi
A thousand eyes, and a thousand feet,
पुरु॑ष ए॒वेदग्ं सर्वम्᳚ । यद्भू॒तं यच्च॒ भव्यम्᳚ ।
āsanam – puru̍ṣa e̱vedagṃ sarvam̎
He, covering the earth on all sides,
उ॒तामृ॑त॒त्वस्येशा॑नः । य॒दन्ने॑नाति॒रोह॑ति ।
yadbhū̱taṃ yacca̱ bhavyam̎
Stands beyond the measure of ten fingers.
ओं श्री ______ नमः नवरत्नखचित सुवर्ण सिंहासनं समर्पयामि । पाद्यम् –

Om, I invoke the revered ______.
ए॒तावा॑नस्य महि॒मा । अतो॒ ज्यायाग्॑श्च॒ पूरु॑षः ।

Seating –
पादो᳚ऽस्य॒ विश्वा॑ भू॒तानि॑ । त्रि॒पाद॑स्या॒मृतं॑ दि॒वि ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ navaratnakhacita suvarṇa siṃhāsanaṃ samarpayāmi
This person is indeed everything,
ओं श्री ______ नमः पादयोः पाद्यं समर्पयामि । अर्घ्यम् –
pādyam – e̱tāvā̍nasya mahi̱mā
Whatever has been and whatever will be,
त्रि॒पादू॒र्ध्व उदै॒त्पुरु॑षः । पादो᳚ऽस्ये॒हाऽऽभ॑वा॒त्पुन॑: ।
ato̱ jyāyāg̍śca̱ pūru̍ṣaḥ
He is the lord of immortality,
ततो॒ विष्व॒ङ्व्य॑क्रामत् । सा॒श॒ना॒न॒श॒ने अ॒भि ।
pādo̎'sya̱ viśvā̍ bhū̱tāni̍
Whatever food nourishes life.
ओं श्री ______ नमः हस्तयोः अर्घ्यं समर्पयामि । आचमनीयम् –
tri̱pāda̍syā̱mṛta̍ṃ di̱vi
Om, I offer the golden throne adorned with nine gems to the revered ______.
तस्मा᳚द्वि॒राड॑जायत । वि॒राजो॒ अधि॒ पूरु॑षः ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ pādayoḥ pādyaṃ samarpayāmi
Washing of the feet –
स जा॒तो अत्य॑रिच्यत । प॒श्चाद्भूमि॒मथो॑ पु॒रः ।
arghyam – tri̱pādū̱rdhva udai̱tpuru̍ṣaḥ
Such is the greatness of this person,
ओं श्री ______ नमः मुखे आचमनीयं समर्पयामि । पञ्चामृत स्नानम् –
pādo̎'sye̱hā”bha̍vā̱tpuna̍:
Therefore, he is greater than all.
आप्या॑यस्व॒ समे॑तु ते वि॒श्वत॑स्सोम॒ वृष्णि॑यम् । भवा॒ वाज॑स्य सङ्ग॒थे ॥
tato̱ viṣva̱ṅvya̍krāmat
His feet are the essence of all beings,
ओं श्री ______ नमः क्षीरेण स्नपयामि । द॒धि॒क्राव्णो॑ अकारिषं जि॒ष्णोरश्व॑स्य वा॒जिन॑: ।
sā̱śa̱nā̱na̱śa̱ne a̱bhi
In three quarters, he is the immortal in heaven.
सु॒र॒भि नो॒ मुखा॑ कर॒त्प्राण॒ आयूग्ं॑षि तारिषत् ॥
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ hastayoḥ arghyaṃ samarpayāmi
Om, I offer my respects to the divine, I present water for the feet.
ओं श्री ______ नमः दध्ना स्नपयामि ।
ācamanīyam – tasmā̎dvi̱rāḍa̍jāyata
Offering of water –
शु॒क्रम॑सि॒ ज्योति॑रसि॒ तेजो॑सि दे॒वोव॑स्सवि॒तोत्पु॑ना॒तु
vi̱rājo̱ adhi̱ pūru̍ṣaḥ
The three-footed one, the supreme being,
अच्छि॑द्रेण प॒वित्रे॑ण॒ वसो॒स्सूर्य॑स्य र॒श्मिभि॑: ।
sa jā̱to atya̍ricyata
From whose feet this universe emerges,
ओं श्री ______ नमः आज्येन स्नपयामि । मधु॒वाता॑ ऋताय॒ते मधु॑क्षरन्ति॒ सिन्ध॑वः ।
pa̱ścādbhūmi̱matho̍ pu̱raḥ
Then the entire universe moves,
माध्वी᳚र्नः स॒न्त्वौष॑धीः । मधु॒नक्त॑मु॒तोष॑सि॒ मधु॑म॒त् पार्थि॑व॒ग्ं॒रज॑: ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ mukhe ācamanīyaṃ samarpayāmi
With the one who consumes all.
मधु॒द्यौर॑स्तु नः पि॒ता । मधु॑मान्नो॒ वन॒स्पति॒र्मधु॑माग्ं अस्तु॒ सूर्य॑: ।
pañcāmṛta snānam – āpyā̍yasva̱ same̍tu te vi̱śvata̍ssoma̱ vṛṣṇi̍yam
Om, I offer my respects to the divine, I present water for the hands.
माध्वी॒र्गावो॑ भवन्तु नः । ओं श्री ______ नमः मधुना स्नपयामि ।
bhavā̱ vāja̍sya saṅga̱the
Offering of water for purification –
स्वा॒दुः प॑वस्व दि॒व्याय॒ जन्म॑ने । स्वा॒दुरिन्द्रा᳚य सु॒हवी᳚तु नाम्ने ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ kṣīreṇa snapayāmi
From that, the great being was born,
स्वा॒दुर्मि॒त्राय॒ वरु॑णाय वा॒यवे॒ । बृह॒स्पत॑ये॒ मधु॑मां॒ अदा᳚भ्यः ।
da̱dhi̱krāvṇo̍ akāriṣaṃ ji̱ṣṇoraśva̍sya vā̱jina̍:
The supreme being, the essence of humanity,
ओं श्री ______ नमः शर्करेण स्नपयामि । याः फ॒लिनी॒र्या अ॑फ॒ला अ॑पु॒ष्पायाश्च॑ पु॒ष्पिणी॑: ।
su̱ra̱bhi no̱ mukhā̍ kara̱tprāṇa̱ āyūg̍ṃṣi tāriṣat
He was born and then expanded,
बृह॒स्पति॑ प्रसूता॒स्तानो॑ मुन्च॒न्त्वग्ं ह॑सः ॥
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ dadhnā snapayāmi
After that, the earth and the city came forth.
ओं श्री ______ नमः फलोदकेन स्नपयामि ।
śu̱krama̍si̱ jyoti̍rasi̱ tejo̍si de̱vova̍ssavi̱totpu̍nā̱tu acchi̍dreṇa pa̱vitre̍ṇa̱ vaso̱ssūrya̍sya ra̱śmibhi̍:
Om, I offer my respects to the divine, I present water for purification at the mouth.
स्नानम् –
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ ājyena snapayāmi
Offering of the five nectars for bathing –
यत्पुरु॑षेण ह॒विषा᳚ ।
madhu̱vātā̍ ṛtāya̱te madhu̍kṣaranti̱ sindha̍vaḥ
May you be nourished, may you be united, O universal moon,
दे॒वा य॒ज्ञमत॑न्वत । व॒स॒न्तो अ॑स्यासी॒दाज्यम्᳚ ।
mādhvī̎rnaḥ sa̱ntvauṣa̍dhīḥ
May you be the source of strength and prosperity.
ग्री॒ष्म इ॒ध्मश्श॒रद्ध॒विः । आपो॒ हिष्ठा म॑यो॒भुव॒स्ता न॑ ऊ॒र्जे द॑धातन ।
madhu̱nakta̍mu̱toṣa̍si̱ madhu̍ma̱t pārthi̍va̱g̱ṃraja̍:
Om, I offer my respects to the divine, I bathe with milk.
म॒हेरणा॑य॒ चक्ष॑से । यो व॑: शि॒वत॑मो रस॒स्तस्य॑ भाजयते॒ ह न॑: ।
madhu̱dyaura̍stu naḥ pi̱tā
The one who churns the curd, who does not act, is the horse of the victor.
उ॒श॒तीरि॑व मा॒त॑रः । तस्मा॒ अर॑ङ्गमामवो॒ यस्य॒ क्षया॑य॒ जिन्व॑थ ।
madhu̍mānno̱ vana̱spati̱rmadhu̍māgṃ astu̱ sūrya̍:
May the divine beings grant us life and longevity.
आपो॑ ज॒नय॑था च नः । ओं श्री ______ नमः शुद्धोदक स्नानं समर्पयामि ।
mādhvī̱rgāvo̍ bhavantu naḥ
Om, I offer my salutations to the divine, I bathe with milk.
स्नानानन्तरं शुद्ध आचमनीयं समर्पयामि । वस्त्रम् –
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ madhunā snapayāmi
You are the bright light, may the divine bestow upon us the essence of life.
स॒प्तास्या॑सन्परि॒धय॑: । त्रिः स॒प्त स॒मिध॑: कृ॒ताः ।
svā̱duḥ pa̍vasva di̱vyāya̱ janma̍ne
With the unbroken and pure rays of the sun, may we dwell.
दे॒वा यद्य॒ज्ञं त॑न्वा॒नाः । अब॑ध्न॒न्पुरु॑षं प॒शुम् ।
svā̱durindrā̎ya su̱havī̎tu nāmne
Om, I offer my salutations to the divine, I bathe with ghee.
ओं श्री ______ नमः वस्त्रयुग्मं समर्पयामि । यज्ञोपवीतम् –
svā̱durmi̱trāya̱ varu̍ṇāya vā̱yave̱
The sweet winds bring forth sweetness, the rivers flow with honey.
तं य॒ज्ञं ब॒र्हिषि॒ प्रौक्षन्॑ । पुरु॑षं जा॒तम॑ग्र॒तः ।
bṛha̱spata̍ye̱ madhu̍mā̱ṃ adā̎bhyaḥ
May the sweet herbs bring us comfort.
तेन॑ दे॒वा अय॑जन्त । सा॒ध्या ऋष॑यश्च॒ ये ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ śarkareṇa snapayāmi
May the honey-filled night be pleasing to us, may the earth be filled with sweetness.
ओं श्री ______ नमः यज्ञोपवीतं समर्पयामि । गन्धम् –
yāḥ pha̱linī̱ryā a̍pha̱lā a̍pu̱ṣpāyāśca̍ pu̱ṣpiṇī̍:
May the honey-filled sky be our father.
तस्मा᳚द्य॒ज्ञात्स॑र्व॒हुत॑: । सम्भृ॑तं पृषदा॒ज्यम् ।
bṛha̱spati̍ prasūtā̱stāno̍ munca̱ntvagṃ ha̍saḥ
May the honey-filled plants and the sun be ours.
प॒शूग्स्ताग्श्च॑क्रे वाय॒व्यान्॑ । आ॒र॒ण्यान्ग्रा॒म्याश्च॒ ये ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ phalodakena snapayāmi
May the cows be filled with sweetness for us.
ओं श्री ______ नमः दिव्य श्री चन्दनं समर्पयामि । आभरणम् –
snānam – yatpuru̍ṣeṇa ha̱viṣā̎
Om, I offer my salutations to the divine, I bathe with honey.
तस्मा᳚द्य॒ज्ञात्स॑र्व॒हुत॑: । ऋच॒: सामा॑नि जज्ञिरे ।
de̱vā ya̱jñamata̍nvata
May the sweet essence flow to the divine birth.
छन्दाग्ं॑सि जज्ञिरे॒ तस्मा᳚त् । यजु॒स्तस्मा॑दजायत ।
va̱sa̱nto a̍syāsī̱dājyam̎
May the sweet one be pleasing to Indra, may he be known by his name.
ओं श्री ______ नमः सर्वाभरणानि समर्पयामि । पुष्पाणि –
grī̱ṣma i̱dhmaśśa̱raddha̱viḥ
May the sweet one be pleasing to the friend, to Varuna, to Vayu.
तस्मा॒दश्वा॑ अजायन्त । ये के चो॑भ॒याद॑तः ।
āpo̱ hiṣṭhā ma̍yo̱bhuva̱stā na̍ ū̱rje da̍dhātana
To Brihaspati, may we offer the sweet essence.
गावो॑ ह जज्ञिरे॒ तस्मा᳚त् । तस्मा᳚ज्जा॒ता अ॑जा॒वय॑: ।
ma̱heraṇā̍ya̱ cakṣa̍se
Om, I offer my salutations to the divine with the water of sugar.
ओं श्री ______ नमः नानाविध परिमल पत्र पुष्पाणि समर्पयामि । धूपम् –
yo va̍: śi̱vata̍mo rasa̱stasya̍ bhājayate̱ ha na̍:
Those who are fruitful, those who are unfruitful, and those who are flowerless, may they blossom.
यत्पुरु॑षं॒ व्य॑दधुः । क॒ति॒धा व्य॑कल्पयन् ।
u̱śa̱tīri̍va mā̱ta̍raḥ
May the offspring born of Brihaspati not be hindered by obstacles.
मुखं॒ किम॑स्य॒ कौ बा॒हू । कावू॒रू पादा॑वुच्येते ।
tasmā̱ ara̍ṅgamāmavo̱ yasya̱ kṣayā̍ya̱ jinva̍tha
Om, I offer my salutations to the divine with the water of fruits.
ओं श्री ______ नमः धूपं समर्पयामि । दीपम् –
āpo̍ ja̱naya̍thā ca naḥ
Bathing –
ब्रा॒ह्म॒णो᳚ऽस्य॒ मुख॑मासीत् । बा॒हू रा॑ज॒न्य॑: कृ॒तः ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ śuddhodaka snānaṃ samarpayāmi
By the sacrifice of the Purusha,
ऊ॒रू तद॑स्य॒ यद्वैश्य॑: । प॒द्भ्याग्ं शू॒द्रो अ॑जायत ।
snānānantaraṃ śuddha ācamanīyaṃ samarpayāmi
The gods are nourished by the Yajna.
ओं श्री ______ नमः दीपं समर्पयामि । नैवेद्यम् –
vastram – sa̱ptāsyā̍sanpari̱dhaya̍:
In this, the spring was the butter,
च॒न्द्रमा॒ मन॑सो जा॒तः । चक्षो॒: सूर्यो॑ अजायत ।
triḥ sa̱pta sa̱midha̍: kṛ̱tāḥ
And summer was the fire of devotion.
मुखा॒दिन्द्र॑श्चा॒ग्निश्च॑ । प्रा॒णाद्वा॒युर॑जायत ।
de̱vā yadya̱jñaṃ ta̍nvā̱nāḥ
The waters are indeed the essence of existence; may they not withhold energy from us.
ओं श्री ______ नमः नैवेद्यं समर्पयामि । ओं भूर्भुव॑स्सुव॑: । तत्स॑वितु॒र्वरे᳚ण्य॒म् । भ॒र्गो॑ दे॒वस्य॑ धी॒महि ।
aba̍dhna̱npuru̍ṣaṃ pa̱śum
To the eye of the great one,
धियो॒ योन॑: प्रचो॒दया᳚त् ॥
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ vastrayugmaṃ samarpayāmi
Whoever is the most auspicious, may that essence be shared with us.
सत्यं त्वा ऋतेन परिषिञ्चामि
yajñopavītam – taṃ ya̱jñaṃ ba̱rhiṣi̱ praukṣan̍
Like the dawn, may the mothers be auspicious.
(सायंकाले – ऋतं त्वा सत्येन परिषिञ्चामि)
puru̍ṣaṃ jā̱tama̍gra̱taḥ
Therefore, may the one who is the cause of destruction be victorious.
अमृतमस्तु । अमृतोपस्तरणमसि ।
tena̍ de̱vā aya̍janta
May the waters bring us forth.
ओं प्राणाय स्वाहा । ओं अपानाय स्वाहा ।
sā̱dhyā ṛṣa̍yaśca̱ ye
Om, I offer my salutations to the divine; I dedicate this pure water bath.
ओं व्यानाय स्वाहा । ओं उदानाय स्वाहा ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ yajñopavītaṃ samarpayāmi
After bathing, I offer pure water for sipping.
ओं समानाय स्वाहा । मध्ये मध्ये पानीयं समर्पयामि । उत्तरापोशनं समर्पयामि । हस्तौ प्रक्षालयामि । पादौ प्रक्षालयामि । शुद्धाचमनीयं समर्पयामि ।
gandham – tasmā̎dya̱jñātsa̍rva̱huta̍:
Clothing –
ताम्बूलम् –
sambhṛ̍taṃ pṛṣadā̱jyam
Draped in seven layers,
नाभ्या॑ आसीद॒न्तरि॑क्षम् ।
pa̱śūgstāgśca̍kre vāya̱vyān̍
Three times seven offerings made,
शी॒र्ष्णो द्यौः सम॑वर्तत । प॒द्भ्यां भूमि॒र्दिश॒: श्रोत्रा᳚त् ।
ā̱ra̱ṇyāngrā̱myāśca̱ ye
The deities, having performed the sacrifice,
तथा॑ लो॒काग्ं अ॑कल्पयन् । ओं श्री ______ नमः ताम्बूलं समर्पयामि ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ divya śrī candanaṃ samarpayāmi
Bind the man as a sacrificial animal.
नीराजनम् –
ābharaṇam – tasmā̎dya̱jñātsa̍rva̱huta̍:
Om, I offer this pair of garments to the revered ______.
वेदा॒हमे॒तं पुरु॑षं म॒हान्तम्᳚ ।
ṛca̱: sāmā̍ni jajñire
Sacred thread –
आ॒दि॒त्यव॑र्णं॒ तम॑स॒स्तु पा॒रे । सर्वा॑णि रू॒पाणि॑ वि॒चित्य॒ धीर॑: ।
chandāg̍ṃsi jajñire̱ tasmā̎t
That sacrifice is performed on the altar,
नामा॑नि कृ॒त्वाऽभि॒वद॒न्॒ यदास्ते᳚ । ओं श्री ______ नमः कर्पूर नीराजनं समर्पयामि ।
yaju̱stasmā̍dajāyata
The man born first,
नीराजनानन्तरं शुद्धाचमनीयं समर्पयामि । नमस्करोमि । मन्त्रपुष्पम् –
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ sarvābharaṇāni samarpayāmi
With him, the deities performed the sacrifice,
धा॒ता पु॒रस्ता॒द्यमु॑दाज॒हार॑ । श॒क्रः प्रवि॒द्वान्प्र॒दिश॒श्चत॑स्रः ।
puṣpāṇi – tasmā̱daśvā̍ ajāyanta
And the Sādhya and the sages too.
तमे॒वं वि॒द्वान॒मृत॑ इ॒ह भ॑वति । नान्यः पन्था॒ अय॑नाय विद्यते ।
ye ke co̍bha̱yāda̍taḥ
Om, I offer the sacred thread to the revered ______.
ओं श्री ______ नमः सुवर्ण दिव्य मन्त्रपुष्पं समर्पयामि । आत्मप्रदक्षिण –
gāvo̍ ha jajñire̱ tasmā̎t
Fragrance –
यानिकानि च पापानि जन्मान्तरकृतानि च
tasmā̎jjā̱tā a̍jā̱vaya̍:
From that sacrifice, all offerings are made,
तानि तानि प्रणश्यन्ति प्रदक्षिण पदे पदे ।
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ nānāvidha parimala patra puṣpāṇi samarpayāmi
The flour mixed with ghee,
पापोऽहं पापकर्माऽहं पापात्मा पापसम्भव । त्राहि मां कृपया देव शरणागतवत्सला ।
dhūpam – yatpuru̍ṣa̱ṃ vya̍dadhuḥ
The animals and the wind,
अन्यथा शरणं नास्ति त्वमेव शरणं मम । तस्मात्कारुण्य भावेन रक्ष रक्ष जनार्दना ।
ka̱ti̱dhā vya̍kalpayan
Those from the forest and the village.
ओं श्री ______ नमः आत्मप्रदक्षिण नमस्कारान् समर्पयामि । साष्टाङ्ग नमस्कारम् –
mukha̱ṃ kima̍sya̱ kau bā̱hū
Om, I offer divine sandalwood to Shri ______.
उरसा शिरसा दृष्ट्या मनसा वचसा तथा । पद्भ्यां कराभ्यां कर्णाभ्यां प्रणामोष्टाङ्गमुच्यते ॥
kāvū̱rū pādā̍vucyete
The adornment –
ओं श्री ______ नमः साष्टाङ्ग नमस्कारान् समर्पयामि । सर्वोपचाराः –
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ dhūpaṃ samarpayāmi
From that sacrifice, all the hymns were born,
ओं श्री ______ नमः छत्रं आच्छादयामि । ओं श्री ______ नमः चामरैर्वीजयामि ।
dīpam – brā̱hma̱ṇo̎'sya̱ mukha̍māsīt
The Sāman chants were born; therefore,
ओं श्री ______ नमः नृत्यं दर्शयामि । ओं श्री ______ नमः गीतं श्रावयामि ।
bā̱hū rā̍ja̱nya̍: kṛ̱taḥ
From the Yajus, it was born.
ओं श्री ______ नमः आन्दोलिकान्नारोहयामि । ओं श्री ______ नमः अश्वानारोहयामि ।
ū̱rū tada̍sya̱ yadvaiśya̍:
Om, I offer all ornaments to Shri ______.
ओं श्री ______ नमः गजानारोहयामि । समस्त राजोपचारान् देवोपचारान् समर्पयामि ।

The flowers –
क्षमा प्रार्थना –
oṃ śrī ______ namaḥ dīpaṃ samarpayāmi
From that, the horses were born,
अपराध सहस्राणि क्रियन्तेऽहर्निशं मया ।
naivedyam – ca̱ndramā̱ mana̍so jā̱taḥ
Those who were born from the sacrifice,
दासोऽयमिति मां मत्वा क्षमस्व परमेश्वर । आवाहनं न जानामि न जानामि विसर्जनम् ।
cakṣo̱: sūryo̍ ajāyata
The cows were born; therefore,
पूजाविधिं न जानामि क्षमस्व परमेश्वर । मन्त्रहीनं क्रियाहीनं भक्तिहीनं जनार्दन ।
mukhā̱dindra̍ścā̱gniśca̍
From that, the Ajā were born.
यत्पूजितं मया देव परिपूर्णं तदस्तु ते । अनया पुरुषसूक्त विधान पूर्वक ध्यान आवाहनादि षोडशोपचार पूजया भगवान् सर्वात्मकः श्री ______ सुप्रीता सुप्रसन्ना वरदा भवन्तु ॥

Om, I offer various fragrant leaves and flowers to Shri ______.
