Shiva Ashtakam
The stotram consists of eight verses praising Lord Shiva and seeking his blessings for strength and protection.
प्रभुं प्राणनाथं विभुं विश्वनाथं
prabhuṁ prāṇanāthaṁ vibhuṁ viśvanāthaṁ jagannāthanāthaṁ sadānandabhājam
I bow to Lord Shiva, the Lord of life, the all-pervading, the Lord of the universe.
जगन्नाथनाथं सदानन्दभाजम् ।
bhavadbhavyabhūtēśvaraṁ bhūtanāthaṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
I bow to the Lord of all beings, the Lord of spirits, the auspicious one, the Lord of the universe.
भवद्भव्यभूतेश्वरं भूतनाथं
galē ruṇḍamālaṁ tanau sarpajālaṁ mahākālakālaṁ gaṇēśādhipālam
I bow to Shiva, the auspicious one, the benefactor of all, the Lord of the universe.
शिवं शङ्करं शम्भुमीशानमीडे ॥ १ ॥
jaṭājūṭagaṅgōttaraṅgairviśālaṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
With a garland of skulls around his neck, and a body entwined with serpents,
गले रुण्डमालं तनौ सर्पजालं
mudāmākaraṁ maṇḍanaṁ maṇḍayantaṁ mahāmaṇḍalaṁ bhasmabhūṣādharaṁ tam
He is the great Lord of time, the ruler of Ganesha,
महाकालकालं गणेशाधिपालम् ।
anādiṁ hyapāraṁ mahāmōhamāraṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
I bow to Shiva, the auspicious one, the benefactor of all, the Lord of the universe.
जटाजूटगङ्गोत्तरङ्गैर्विशालं
vaṭādhōnivāsaṁ mahāṭ-ṭāṭ-ṭahāsaṁ mahāpāpanāśaṁ sadāsuprakāśam
He is the source of joy, adorned with the moon,
शिवं शङ्करं शम्भुमीशानमीडे ॥ २ ॥
girīśaṁ gaṇēśaṁ surēśaṁ mahēśaṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
He is the great assembly, the one who wears the ash,
मुदामाकरं मण्डनं मण्डयन्तं
girindrātmajāsaṅgr̥hītārdhadēhaṁ girau saṁsthitaṁ sarvadā:':'sannagēham
I bow to Shiva, the auspicious one, the benefactor of all, the Lord of the universe.
महामण्डलं भस्मभूषाधरं तम् ।
parabrahmabrahmādibhirvandyamānaṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
He resides beneath the banyan tree, the one who roars like thunder,
अनादिं ह्यपारं महामोहमारं
kapālaṁ triśūlaṁ karābhyāṁ dadhānaṁ padāmbhōjanamrāya kāmaṁ dadānam
He is the destroyer of great sins, always radiating light,
शिवं शङ्करं शम्भुमीशानमीडे ॥ ३ ॥
balīvardayānaṁ surāṇāṁ pradhānaṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
I bow to Shiva, the auspicious one, the benefactor of all, the Lord of the universe.
वटाधोनिवासं महाट्टाट्टहासं
śaraccandragātraṁ gaṇānandapātraṁ trinētraṁ pavitraṁ dhanēśasya mitram
He is the son of the mountain, with a half-formed body,
महापापनाशं सदासुप्रकाशम् ।
aparṇākalatraṁ sadā saccaritraṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
He is always present in the mountains,
गिरीशं गणेशं सुरेशं महेशं
haraṁ sarpahāraṁ citābhūvihāraṁ bhavaṁ vēdasāraṁ sadā nirvikāram
I bow to Shiva, the auspicious one, the benefactor of all, the Lord of the universe.
शिवं शङ्करं शम्भुमीशानमीडे ॥ ४ ॥
śmaśānē vasantaṁ manōjaṁ dahantaṁ śivaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śambhumīśānamīḍē
He is worshipped by the supreme Brahman and the creator,
गिरिन्द्रात्मजासङ्गृहीतार्धदेहं
stavaṁ yaḥ prabhātē naraḥ śūlapāṇēḥ paṭhēt sarvadā bhargabhāvānuraktaḥ
I bow to Shiva, the auspicious one, the benefactor of all, the Lord of the universe.
गिरौ संस्थितं सर्वदाऽऽसन्नगेहम् ।
sa putraṁ dhanaṁ dhānyamitraṁ kalatraṁ vicitraiḥ samārādhya mōkṣaṁ prayāti
He holds a skull and a trident in his hands,
परब्रह्मब्रह्मादिभिर्वन्द्यमानं
iti śrīkr̥ṣṇajanmakhaṇḍē śivāṣṭaka stōtram
He grants the desires of those who seek refuge at his lotus feet,
