Shiva shadakshara stotram
This stotram extols the virtues of Lord Shiva through the repetition of his sacred six-syllable mantra, invoking his divine presence and blessings.
१। रुद्रयामले
rudrayāmalē —————- ōṁkāraṁ bindusamyuktaṁ nityaṁ dhyāyanti yōginaḥ
Omkara, united with the bindu, is eternally meditated upon by yogis.
ओङ्कारं बिन्दुसम्युक्तं नित्यं ध्यायन्ति योगिनः ।
kāmadaṁ mōkṣadaṁ caiva ōṅkārāya namō namaḥ
To Omkara, the granter of desires and liberation, we bow again and again.
कामदं मोक्षदं चैव ओङ्काराय नमो नमः ॥ १ ॥
namanti r̥ṣayō dēvā namantyapsarasāṁ gaṇāḥ
The sages and gods bow down, the celestial beings also bow down.
नमन्ति ऋषयो देवा नमन्त्यप्सरसां गणाः ।
narā namanti dēvēśaṁ nakārāya namō namaḥ
Humans bow down to the Lord of gods, to Nakara we bow again and again.
नरा नमन्ति देवेशं नकाराय नमो नमः ॥ २ ॥
mahādēvaṁ mahātmānaṁ mahādhyānaparāyaṇam
To Mahadeva, the great soul, the one devoted to deep meditation,
महादेवं महात्मानं महाध्यानपरायणम् ।
mahāpāpaharaṁ dēvaṁ makārāya namō namaḥ
To the deity who removes great sins, to Makara we bow again and again.
महापापहरं देवं मकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ३ ॥
śivaṁ śāntaṁ jagannāthaṁ lōkānugrahakārakam
To Shiva, the peaceful one, the Lord of the universe, who bestows grace upon the worlds,
शिवं शान्तं जगन्नाथं लोकानुग्रहकारकम् ।
śivamēkapadaṁ nityaṁ śikārāya namō namaḥ
To the one who is always the sole refuge, to Shikara we bow again and again.
शिवमेकपदं नित्यं शिकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ४ ॥
vāhanaṁ vr̥ṣabhō yasya vāsukiḥ kaṇṭhabhūṣaṇam
His vehicle is the bull, and Vasuki adorns his neck,
वाहनं वृषभो यस्य वासुकिः कण्ठभूषणम् ।
vāmē śaktidharaṁ dēvaṁ vakārāya namō namaḥ
To the deity who holds power on the left, to Vakara we bow again and again.
वामे शक्तिधरं देवं वकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ५ ॥
yatra yatra sthitō dēvaḥ sarvavyāpī mahēśvaraḥ
Wherever the deity, the all-pervading Maheshvara, resides,
यत्र यत्र स्थितो देवः सर्वव्यापी महेश्वरः ।
yō guruḥ sarvadēvānāṁ yakārāya namō namaḥ
To the guru of all gods, to Yakara we bow again and again.
यो गुरुः सर्वदेवानां यकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ६ ॥
ṣaḍakṣaramidaṁ stōtraṁ yaḥ paṭhēcchivasannidhau
This six-syllable hymn, whoever recites it in the presence of Shiva,
षडक्षरमिदं स्तोत्रं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ ।
śivalōkamavāpnōti śivēna saha mōdatē
Attains the abode of Shiva and rejoices with Shiva.
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥ ७ ॥
śrīmacchaṅkarācārya kr̥taṁ ————————— ōṁkāraṁ bindusamyuktaṁ nityaṁ dhyāyanti yōginaḥ
This is a composition by the revered Śrīmacchaṅkarācārya.
२। श्रीमच्छङ्कराचार्य कृतं
kāmadaṁ mōkṣadaṁ tasmādōṅkārāya namō namaḥ
The yogis constantly meditate on the Omkara combined with the bindu.
ओङ्कारं बिन्दुसम्युक्तं नित्यं ध्यायन्ति योगिनः । कामदं मोक्षदं तस्मादोङ्काराय नमो नमः ॥ १ ॥
ōṁ naṁ, namanti munayassarvē namantyapsarasāṁ gaṇāḥ
It grants desires and liberation; therefore, I bow repeatedly to Omkara.
ओं नं,
narāṇāmādidēvāya nakārāya namō namaḥ
Om namah,
नमन्ति मुनयस्सर्वे नमन्त्यप्सरसां गणाः ।
ōṁ maṁ, mahattattvaṁ mahādēvapriyaṁ jñānapradaṁ param
All the sages bow down, and the groups of celestial nymphs bow down.
नराणामादिदेवाय नकाराय नमो नमः ॥ २ ॥
mahāpāpaharaṁ tasmānmakārāya namō namaḥ
To the original deity of mankind, I bow to the letter 'na'.
ओं मं,
ōṁ śiṁ, śivaṁ śāntaṁ śivākāraṁ śivānugrahakāraṇam
Om mam,
महत्तत्त्वं महादेवप्रियं ज्ञानप्रदं परम् । महापापहरं तस्मान्मकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ३ ॥
mahāpāpaharaṁ tasmācchikārāya namō namaḥ
The great principle, beloved of the great god, bestower of knowledge,
ओं शिं,
ōṁ vāṁ, vāhanaṁ vr̥ṣabhō yasya vāsukiḥ kaṇṭhabhūṣaṇam
It removes great sins; therefore, I bow to the letter 'ma'.
शिवं शान्तं शिवाकारं शिवानुग्रहकारणम् ।
vāmē śaktidharaṁ dēvaṁ vakārāya namō namaḥ
Om shim,
महापापहरं तस्माच्छिकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ४ ॥
ōṁ yaṁ, yakārē saṁsthitō dēvō yakāraṁ paramaṁ śubham
The auspicious, peaceful, and benevolent form of Shiva,
ओं वां,
yaṁ nityaṁ paramānandaṁ yakārāya namō namaḥ
It removes great sins; therefore, I bow to the letter 'shi'.
वाहनं वृषभो यस्य वासुकिः कण्ठभूषणम् । वामे शक्तिधरं देवं वकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ५ ॥
yaḥ kṣīrāmbudhi manthanōdbhava mahāhālāhalaṁ bhīkaraṁ dr̥ṣṭvā tatrapalāyitāssuragaṇānnārāyaṇādīntadā
Om vam,
ओं यं,
sampītvā paripālayajjagadidaṁ viśvādhikaṁ śaṅkaraṁ sēvyō nassakalāpadāṁ pariharankailāsavāsī vibhuḥ
The vehicle of the one whose mount is the bull, adorned with the serpent Vasuki,
यकारे संस्थितो देवो यकारं परमं शुभम् ।
ṣaḍakṣaramidaṁ stōtraṁ yaḥ paṭhēcchivasannidhau
To the deity who holds power on the left, I bow to the letter 'va'.
यं नित्यं परमानन्दं यकाराय नमो नमः ॥ ६ ॥
tasya mr̥tyubhayaṁ nāsti hyapamr̥tyubhayaṁ kutaḥ
Om yam,
यः क्षीराम्बुधि मन्थनोद्भव महाहालाहलं भीकरं
yatkr̥tyaṁ tannakr̥taṁ yadakr̥tyaṁ kr̥tyavattadācaritam
The deity who resides in the syllable 'ya', the supreme and auspicious one,
दृष्ट्वा तत्रपलायितास्सुरगणान्नारायणादीन्तदा । सम्पीत्वा परिपालयज्जगदिदं विश्वाधिकं शङ्करं
ubhayōḥ prāyaścittaṁ śiva tava nāmākṣaradvayōccaritam
I bow to the letter 'ya', who is eternal bliss.
सेव्यो नस्सकलापदां परिहरन्कैलासवासी विभुः ॥ ७ ॥
śivaśivēti śivēti śivēti vā bhavabhavēti bhavēti bhavēti vā
He who arose from the churning of the ocean of milk, the terrifying poison,
षडक्षरमिदं स्तोत्रं यः पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ ।
haraharēti harēti harēti vā bhajamanaśśivamēva nirantaram
Seeing that, the groups of gods fled, and then Narayana protected them.
तस्य मृत्युभयं नास्ति ह्यपमृत्युभयं कुतः ॥ ८ ॥
iti śrīmacchaṅkaracāryakr̥ta śivaṣaḍakṣarīstōtraṁ sampūrṇam
Having consumed it, he sustains this entire world; he is the supreme Shankara.
