Sri Chandra Stotram 3
The stotra consists of verses that extol the virtues of Chandra, encouraging devotees to seek his blessings for emotional and creative pursuits.
ध्यानम् –
dhyānam – śvētāmbarōjjvalatanuṁ sitamālyagandhaṁ śvētāśvayuktarathagaṁ surasēvitāṅghrim
I bow to the moon, the giver of boons, the ornament of Lord Shankara.
श्वेताम्बरोज्ज्वलतनुं सितमाल्यगन्धं
dōrbhyāṁ dhr̥tābhayagadaṁ varadaṁ sudhāṁśuṁ śrīvatsamauktikadharaṁ praṇamāmi candram
He is the treasure of arts, the embodiment of beauty, shining like a crown.
श्वेताश्वयुक्तरथगं सुरसेविताङ्घ्रिम् । दोर्भ्यां धृताभयगदं वरदं सुधांशुं
āgnēyabhāgē sarathō daśāśva- -ścātrēyajō yāmunadēśajaśca
I bow to Him, the giver of boons, whose feet are worthy of worship, the eyes of Vasudeva.
श्रीवत्समौक्तिकधरं प्रणमामि चन्द्रम् ॥ १ ॥
pratyaṅmukhasthaścaturaśrapīṭhē gadādharō nō:'vatu rōhiṇīśaḥ
I bow to the moon, who brings joy to the earth, filled with nectar.
आग्नेयभागे सरथो दशाश्व-
atha stōtram – candraṁ namāmi varadaṁ śaṅkarasya vibhūṣaṇam
I bow to Him, who wears a white garland and robe, adorned with fragrant white substances.
-श्चात्रेयजो यामुनदेशजश्च । प्रत्यङ्मुखस्थश्चतुरश्रपीठे
kalānidhiṁ kāntirūpaṁ kēyūramakuṭōjjvalam
I bow to Him, whose white umbrella shines, the moon among the stars.
गदाधरो नोऽवतु रोहिणीशः ॥ २ ॥
varadaṁ vandyacaraṇaṁ vāsudēvasya lōcanam
O moon, grant me health, surrounded by the nectar-filled sphere.
अथ स्तोत्रम् –
vasudhāhlādanakaraṁ vidhuṁ taṁ praṇamāmyaham
You are the king of Brahmins and also a brother to Lakshmi.
चन्द्रं नमामि वरदं शङ्करस्य विभूषणम् । कलानिधिं कान्तिरूपं केयूरमकुटोज्ज्वलम् ॥ ३ ॥
śvētamālyāmbaradharaṁ śvētagandhānulēpanam
O king, protector of herbs, shield me during the night.
वरदं वन्द्यचरणं वासुदेवस्य लोचनम् । वसुधाह्लादनकरं विधुं तं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥ ४ ॥
śvētacchatrōllasanmauliṁ śaśinaṁ praṇamāmyaham
You are the jewel on the head of Shankara, the eye of the sharanga.
श्वेतमाल्याम्बरधरं श्वेतगन्धानुलेपनम् । श्वेतच्छत्रोल्लसन्मौलिं शशिनं प्रणमाम्यहम् ॥ ५ ॥
sarvaṁ jagajjīvayasi sudhārasamayaiḥ karaiḥ
O Lord of the stars, you are our great refuge.
सर्वं जगज्जीवयसि सुधारसमयैः करैः । सोम देहि ममारोग्यं सुधापूरितमण्डलम् ॥ ६ ॥
sōma dēhi mamārōgyaṁ sudhāpūritamaṇḍalam
O embodiment of auspiciousness, grant us your compassion, the ocean of mercy.
राजा त्वं ब्राह्मणानां च रमाया अपि सोदरः । राजा नाथश्चौषधीनां रक्ष मां रजनीकर ॥ ७ ॥
rājā tvaṁ brāhmaṇānāṁ ca ramāyā api sōdaraḥ
Bestow your grace, O Lord of the arts, born from the pot of nectar.
शङ्करस्य शिरोरत्नं शार्ङ्गिणश्च विलोचनम् । तारकाणामधीशस्त्वं तारयाऽस्मान्महापदः ॥ ८ ॥
rājā nāthaścauṣadhīnāṁ rakṣa māṁ rajanīkara
You who arise from the ocean of milk, grant us our desired goals, O sibling of the wish-fulfilling tree.
कल्याणमूर्ते वरद करुणारसवारिधे । कलशोदधिसञ्जातकलानाथ कृपां कुरु ॥ ९ ॥
śaṅkarasya śirōratnaṁ śārṅgiṇaśca vilōcanam
Clad in white garments, adorned with white ornaments,
क्षीरार्णवसमुद्भूत चिन्तामणिसहोद्भव । कामितार्थान् प्रदेहि त्वं कल्पद्रुमसहोदर ॥ १० ॥
tārakāṇāmadhīśastvaṁ tārayā:'smānmahāpadaḥ
You who bear the mace, with a radiant white form and two arms,
श्वेताम्बरः श्वेतविभूषणाढ्यो
kalyāṇamūrtē varada karuṇārasavāridhē
May the moon, the giver of nectar, with a crown,
गदाधरः श्वेतरुचिर्द्विबाहुः ।
kalaśōdadhisañjātakalānātha kr̥pāṁ kuru
Bestow upon me the highest blessings, O Lord.
चन्द्रः सुधात्मा वरदः किरीटी
kṣīrārṇavasamudbhūta cintāmaṇisahōdbhava
This hymn to the moon, whoever recites it daily,
श्रेयांसि मह्यं प्रददातु देवः ॥ ११ ॥
kāmitārthān pradēhi tvaṁ kalpadrumasahōdara
Will be freed from calamities; there is no doubt about this.
इदं निशाकरस्तोत्रं यः पठेत् प्रत्यहं नरः । उपद्रवात् स मुच्येत नात्र कार्या विचारणा ॥ १२ ॥
śvētāmbaraḥ śvētavibhūṣaṇāḍhyō gadādharaḥ śvētarucirdvibāhuḥ
Thus ends the hymn to the moon.
