śrī pārvatyuvāca – nāmnāṁ sahasraṁ paramaṁ chinnamastāpriyaṁ śubham

श्री पार्वत्युवाच –
kathitaṁ bhavatā śambhōssadyaśśatrunikr̥ntanam
Shri Parvati said –
नाम्नां सहस्रं परमं छिन्नमस्ताप्रियं शुभम् । कथितं भवता शम्भोस्सद्यश्शत्रुनिकृन्तनम् ॥ १ ॥
punaḥ pr̥cchāmyahaṁ dēva kr̥pāṁ kuru mamōpari
By the name of the supreme Chinnamasta, which is dear and auspicious,
पुनः पृच्छाम्यहं देव कृपां कुरु ममोपरि । सहस्रनामपाठे च अशक्तो यः पुमान् भवेत् ॥ २ ॥
sahasranāmapāṭhē ca aśaktō yaḥ pumān bhavēt
You have spoken of the immediate destruction of enemies by Lord Shiva.
तेन किं पठ्यते नाथ तन्मे ब्रूहि कृपामय । श्री सदाशिव उवाच –
tēna kiṁ paṭhyatē nātha tanmē brūhi kr̥pāmaya
Once again, I ask you, O God, grant your grace upon me.
अष्टोत्तरशतं नाम्नां पठ्यते तेन सर्वदा ॥ ३ ॥
śrī sadāśiva uvāca – aṣṭōttaraśataṁ nāmnāṁ paṭhyatē tēna sarvadā
If a man is unable to recite the thousand names,
सहस्रनामपाठस्य फलं प्राप्नोति निश्चितम् ।
sahasranāmapāṭhasya phalaṁ prāpnōti niścitam
What is the use of reading, O Lord? Please tell me, O embodiment of compassion.
ओं अस्य श्रीछिन्नमस्तादेव्यष्टोत्तर शतनाम स्तोत्रमहामन्त्रस्य सदाशिव ऋषिः अनुष्टुप् छन्दः श्रीछिन्नमस्ता देवता मम सकलसिद्धि प्राप्तये जपे विनियोगः ॥
ōṁ asya śrīchinnamastādēvyaṣṭōttara śatanāma stōtramahāmantrasya sadāśiva r̥ṣiḥ anuṣṭup chandaḥ śrīchinnamastā dēvatā mama sakalasiddhi prāptayē japē viniyōgaḥ
Shri Sadashiva said –
ओं छिन्नमस्ता महाविद्या महाभीमा महोदरी ।
ōṁ chinnamastā mahāvidyā mahābhīmā mahōdarī
By reciting the hundred and eight names, one always attains
चण्डेश्वरी चण्डमाता चण्डमुण्डप्रभञ्जिनी ॥ ४ ॥
caṇḍēśvarī caṇḍamātā caṇḍamuṇḍaprabhañjinī
The certain fruit of reciting the thousand names.
महाचण्डा चण्डरूपा चण्डिका चण्डखण्डिनी ।
mahācaṇḍā caṇḍarūpā caṇḍikā caṇḍakhaṇḍinī
Om, this great mantra of the hymn of a hundred names of Shri Chinnamasta is composed by the sage Sadashiva,
क्रोधिनी क्रोधजननी क्रोधरूपा कुहूः कला ॥ ५ ॥
krōdhinī krōdhajananī krōdharūpā kuhūḥ kalā
In the Anushtub meter, with Shri Chinnamasta as the deity, for the attainment of all accomplishments, the purpose of the recitation is established.
कोपातुरा कोपयुता कोपसंहारकारिणी ।
kōpāturā kōpayutā kōpasaṁhārakāriṇī
Om, Chinnamasta, great knowledge, great fierce, great giver of boons,
वज्रवैरोचनी वज्रा वज्रकल्पा च डाकिनी ॥ ६ ॥
vajravairōcanī vajrā vajrakalpā ca ḍākinī
Chandeshvari, Chandamata, Chandamundaprabhanjini,
डाकिनीकर्मनिरता डाकिनीकर्मपूजिता ।
ḍākinīkarmaniratā ḍākinīkarmapūjitā
Mahachanda, Chandarupa, Chandika, Chandakhandini,
डाकिनीसङ्गनिरता डाकिनीप्रेमपूरिता ॥ ७ ॥
ḍākinīsaṅganiratā ḍākinīprēmapūritā
Krodhini, Krodhajanani, Krodharupa, Kuhuh Kalā,
खट्वाङ्गधारिणी खर्वा खड्गखर्परधारिणी ।
khaṭvāṅgadhāriṇī kharvā khaḍgakharparadhāriṇī
Kopatara, Kopa-yuta, Kopa-samhara-kariṇi,
प्रेतासना प्रेतयुता प्रेतसङ्गविहारिणी ॥ ८ ॥
prētāsanā prētayutā prētasaṅgavihāriṇī
Vajravairochani, Vajra, Vajrakalpa, and Dakini,
छिन्नमुण्डधरा छिन्नचण्डविद्या च चित्रिणी ।
chinnamuṇḍadharā chinnacaṇḍavidyā ca citriṇī
Engaged in the actions of Dakini, worshipped by the actions of Dakini.
घोररूपा घोरदृष्टिः घोररावा घनोदरी ॥ ९ ॥
ghōrarūpā ghōradr̥ṣṭiḥ ghōrarāvā ghanōdarī
Engaged in the company of the Dakinis, filled with the love of the Dakinis,
योगिनी योगनिरता जपयज्ञपरायणा ।
yōginī yōganiratā japayajñaparāyaṇā
Holding a staff, fierce, bearer of the sword and the shield,
योनिचक्रमयी योनिर्योनिचक्रप्रवर्तिनी ॥ १० ॥
yōnicakramayī yōniryōnicakrapravartinī
Seated among the spirits, accompanied by spirits, wandering with spirits,
योनिमुद्रा योनिगम्या योनियन्त्रनिवासिनी ।
yōnimudrā yōnigamyā yōniyantranivāsinī
With a shorn head, possessing fierce knowledge, she is colorful,
यन्त्ररूपा यन्त्रमयी यन्त्रेशी यन्त्रपूजिता ॥ ११ ॥
yantrarūpā yantramayī yantrēśī yantrapūjitā
Having a terrifying form, with a dreadful gaze, she is a fearsome roar, with a heavy belly,
कीर्त्या कपर्दिनी काली कङ्काली कलकारिणी ।
kīrtyā kapardinī kālī kaṅkālī kalakāriṇī
A yogini, engaged in yoga, devoted to chanting and sacrifices,
आरक्ता रक्तनयना रक्तपानपरायणा ॥ १२ ॥
āraktā raktanayanā raktapānaparāyaṇā
Embodiment of the cosmic circle, she is the source of the cosmic cycle,
भवानी भूतिदा भूतिर्भूतिधात्री च भैरवी ।
bhavānī bhūtidā bhūtirbhūtidhātrī ca bhairavī
The seal of the womb, attainable through the womb, residing in the womb's machinery,
भैरवाचारनिरता भूतभैरवसेविता ॥ १३ ॥
bhairavācāraniratā bhūtabhairavasēvitā
In the form of a machine, made of machinery, the lord of machines, worshipped by machines,
भीमा भीमेश्वरी देवी भीमनादपरायणा ।
bhīmā bhīmēśvarī dēvī bhīmanādaparāyaṇā
Renowned, with matted hair, Kali, the one with a skull, skilled in arts,
भवाराध्या भवनुता भवसागरतारिणी ॥ १४ ॥
bhavārādhyā bhavanutā bhavasāgaratāriṇī
Crimson, with red eyes, devoted to drinking blood,
भद्रकाली भद्रतनुर्भद्ररूपा च भद्रिका ।
bhadrakālī bhadratanurbhadrarūpā ca bhadrikā
Bhavani, the giver of prosperity, prosperity itself, the sustainer of beings, Bhairavi,
भद्ररूपा महाभद्रा सुभद्रा भद्रपालिनी ॥ १५ ॥
bhadrarūpā mahābhadrā subhadrā bhadrapālinī
Engaged in the teachings of Bhairava, served by the spirits of Bhairava,
सुभव्या भव्यवदना सुमुखी सिद्धसेविता ।
subhavyā bhavyavadanā sumukhī siddhasēvitā
Fierce, the goddess of the fierce lord, devoted to the terrifying sound,
सिद्धिदा सिद्धिनिवहा सिद्धा सिद्धनिषेविता ॥ १६ ॥
siddhidā siddhinivahā siddhā siddhaniṣēvitā
Worshipped by the world, praised by the universe, the one who ferries across the ocean of existence.
शुभदा शुभगा शुद्धा शुद्धसत्त्वा शुभावहा ।
śubhadā śubhagā śuddhā śuddhasattvā śubhāvahā
Bhadra Kālī, with a beautiful form, and auspicious in appearance,
श्रेष्ठा दृष्टिमयी देवी दृष्टिसंहारकारिणी ॥ १७ ॥
śrēṣṭhā dr̥ṣṭimayī dēvī dr̥ṣṭisaṁhārakāriṇī
The great auspicious one, Subhadrā, the protector of the auspicious,
शर्वाणी सर्वगा सर्वा सर्वमङ्गलकारिणी ।
śarvāṇī sarvagā sarvā sarvamaṅgalakāriṇī
With a beautiful visage, endowed with grace, served by the siddhas,
शिवा शान्ता शान्तिरूपा मृडानी मदानतुरा ॥ १८ ॥
śivā śāntā śāntirūpā mr̥ḍānī madānaturā
Bestower of success, the one who brings forth success, revered by the accomplished,
इति ते कथितं देवी स्तोत्रं परमदुर्लभम् ।
iti tē kathitaṁ dēvī stōtraṁ paramadurlabham
Bestower of goodness, the one who brings forth purity, pure in essence, and a bearer of auspiciousness,
गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं गोप्यं गोपनियं प्रयत्नतः ॥ १९ ॥
guhyādguhyataraṁ gōpyaṁ gōpaniyaṁ prayatnataḥ
The supreme goddess, endowed with vision, the one who destroys obstacles with her sight,
किमत्र बहुनोक्तेन त्वदग्रे प्राणवल्लभे ।
kimatra bahunōktēna tvadagrē prāṇavallabhē
The all-pervading one, the one who is everywhere, the one who brings forth all auspiciousness,
मारणं मोहनं देवि ह्युच्चाटनमतः परम् ॥ २० ॥
māraṇaṁ mōhanaṁ dēvi hyuccāṭanamataḥ param
The auspicious one, serene, embodying peace, gentle and intoxicated with bliss,
स्तम्भनादिककर्माणि ऋद्धयस्सिद्धयोऽपि च ।
stambhanādikakarmāṇi r̥ddhayassiddhayō:'pi ca
Thus, this hymn to the goddess has been declared, exceedingly rare,
त्रिकालपठनादस्य सर्वे सिद्ध्यन्त्यसंशयः ॥ २१ ॥
trikālapaṭhanādasya sarvē siddhyantyasaṁśayaḥ
More secret than the secret, to be kept hidden with great care,
महोत्तमं स्तोत्रमिदं वरानने
mahōttamaṁ stōtramidaṁ varānanē mayēritaṁ nityamananyabuddhayaḥ
What need is there for many words here, O beloved of my life,
मयेरितं नित्यमनन्यबुद्धयः । पठन्ति ये भक्तियुता नरोत्तमा
paṭhanti yē bhaktiyutā narōttamā bhavēnna tēṣāṁ ripubhiḥ parājayaḥ
Death and enchantment, O goddess, are indeed the highest of all,
भवेन्न तेषां रिपुभिः पराजयः ॥ २२ ॥
iti śrīchinnamastādēvyaṣṭōttaraśatanāma stōtram
