Sri Matangi Kavacham 3
The Sri Matangi Kavacham consists of protective verses dedicated to Goddess Matangi, invoking her strength and wisdom.
अस्य श्रीमातङ्गी कवचमन्त्रस्य महायोगीश्वरऋषिः अनुष्टुप् छन्दः श्रीमातङ्गीश्वरी देवता श्रीमातङ्गीप्रसादसिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥
asya śrīmātaṅgī kavacamantrasya mahāyōgīśvarar̥ṣiḥ anuṣṭup chandaḥ śrīmātaṅgīśvarī dēvatā śrīmātaṅgīprasādasiddhyarthē japē viniyōgaḥ
This is the mantra of the revered Mother Mātangi, composed by the great yogi sage, in the Anuṣṭup meter, dedicated to the goddess Mātangi, for the attainment of her blessings.
नीलोत्पलप्रतीकाशामञ्जनाद्रिसमप्रभाम् ।
nīlōtpalapratīkāśāmañjanādrisamaprabhām
With the brilliance of the blue lotus, resembling the mountain's glow,
वीणाहस्तां गानरतां मधुपात्रं च बिभ्रतीम् ॥ १ ॥
vīṇāhastāṁ gānaratāṁ madhupātraṁ ca bibhratīm
Holding a veena, delighting in song, and carrying a honey pot,
सर्वालङ्कारसम्युक्तां श्यामलां मदशालिनीम् ।
sarvālaṅkārasamyuktāṁ śyāmalāṁ madaśālinīm
Adorned with all ornaments, dark-hued, and full of intoxication,
नमामि राजमातङ्गीं भक्तानामिष्टदायिनीम् ॥ २ ॥
namāmi rājamātaṅgīṁ bhaktānāmiṣṭadāyinīm
I bow to the royal Mātangi, the giver of desires to her devotees.
एवं ध्यात्वा जपेन्नित्यं कवचं सर्वकामदम् ।
ēvaṁ dhyātvā japēnnityaṁ kavacaṁ sarvakāmadam
Thus meditating, one should daily chant this armor, which fulfills all wishes.
ओम् । शिखां मे श्यामला पातु मातङ्गी मे शिरोऽवतु ॥ ३ ॥
śikhāṁ mē śyāmalā pātu mātaṅgī mē śirō:'vatu
May the dark-hued Mātangi protect my crown, and may she guard my head.
ललाटं पातु चण्डेशी भ्रुवौ मे मदशालिनी ।
lalāṭaṁ pātu caṇḍēśī bhruvau mē madaśālinī
May the fierce goddess Chandeshī protect my forehead, and may the intoxicated one guard my eyebrows.
कर्णौ मे पातु मातङ्गी शङ्खी कुण्डलशोभिता ॥ ४ ॥
karṇau mē pātu mātaṅgī śaṅkhī kuṇḍalaśōbhitā
May Mātangi protect my ears, adorned with conch and earrings.
नेत्रे मे पातु रक्ताक्षी नासिकां पातु मे शिवा ।
nētrē mē pātu raktākṣī nāsikāṁ pātu mē śivā
May the red-eyed goddess protect my eyes, and may Shiva guard my nose.
गण्डौ मे पातु देवेशी ओष्ठौ बिम्बफलाधरा ॥ ५ ॥
gaṇḍau mē pātu dēvēśī ōṣṭhau bimbaphalādharā
May the divine goddess protect my cheeks, and may the one holding the bimba fruit guard my lips.
जिह्वां मे पातु वागीशी दन्तान् कल्याणकारिणी ।
jihvāṁ mē pātu vāgīśī dantān kalyāṇakāriṇī
May Vāgīśī protect my tongue, and may the auspicious one guard my teeth.
पातु मे राजमातङ्गी वदनं सर्वसिद्धिदा ॥ ६ ॥
pātu mē rājamātaṅgī vadanaṁ sarvasiddhidā
May the royal Mātangi protect my face, which grants all accomplishments.
कण्ठं मे पातु हृद्याङ्गी वीणाहस्ता करौ मम ।
kaṇṭhaṁ mē pātu hr̥dyāṅgī vīṇāhastā karau mama
May the heart-pleasing goddess guard my throat, and may the one with the veena protect my hands.
हृदयं पातु मे लक्ष्मीर्नाभिं मे विश्वनायिका ॥ ७ ॥
hr̥dayaṁ pātu mē lakṣmīrnābhiṁ mē viśvanāyikā
May Lakshmi protect my heart, and may the universal leader guard my navel.
मम पार्श्वद्वयं पातु सूक्ष्ममध्या महेश्वरी ।
mama pārśvadvayaṁ pātu sūkṣmamadhyā mahēśvarī
May the great goddess protect my two sides, the subtle middle.
शुकश्यामा कटिं पातु गुह्यं मे लोकमोहिनी ॥ ८ ॥
śukaśyāmā kaṭiṁ pātu guhyaṁ mē lōkamōhinī
May the dark blue parrot protect my waist, the enchanting one of the world.
ऊरू मे पातु भद्राङ्गी जानुनी पातु शाङ्करी ।
ūrū mē pātu bhadrāṅgī jānunī pātu śāṅkarī
May the auspicious one protect my thighs, may the goddess of auspiciousness protect my knees.
जङ्घाद्वयं मे लोकेशी पादौ मे परमेश्वरी ॥ ९ ॥
jaṅghādvayaṁ mē lōkēśī pādau mē paramēśvarī
May the goddess of the world protect my two shins, may the supreme goddess protect my feet.
प्रागादिदिक्षु मां पातु सर्वैश्वर्यप्रदायिनी ।
prāgādidikṣu māṁ pātu sarvaiśvaryapradāyinī
May she who grants all prosperity protect me from the east and west.
रोमाणि पातु मे कृष्णा भार्यां मे भववल्लभा ॥ १० ॥
rōmāṇi pātu mē kr̥ṣṇā bhāryāṁ mē bhavavallabhā
May the black one protect my body, may my beloved protect me.
शङ्करी सर्वतः पातु मम सर्ववशङ्करी ।
śaṅkarī sarvataḥ pātu mama sarvavaśaṅkarī
May the goddess of auspiciousness protect me from all sides, the one who brings everything under control.
महालक्ष्मीर्मम धनं विश्वमाता सुतान् मम ॥ ११ ॥
mahālakṣmīrmama dhanaṁ viśvamātā sutān mama
May the great goddess Lakshmi protect my wealth, the universal mother of my sons.
श्रीमातङ्गीश्वरी नित्यं मां पातु जगदीश्वरी ।
śrīmātaṅgīśvarī nityaṁ māṁ pātu jagadīśvarī
May the goddess of the divine protect me eternally, the lord of the universe.
मातङ्गी कवचं नित्यं य एतत् प्रपठेन्नरः ॥ १२ ॥
mātaṅgī kavacaṁ nityaṁ ya ētat prapaṭhēnnaraḥ
He who reads this armor of the goddess will make all beings happy.
सुखित्वा सकलान् लोकान् दासीभूतान् करोत्यसौ ।
sukhitvā sakalān lōkān dāsībhūtān karōtyasau
He will attain great radiance, becoming a hundred times more desirable.
प्राप्नोति महतीं कान्तिं भवेत् कामशतप्रभः ॥ १३ ॥
prāpnōti mahatīṁ kāntiṁ bhavēt kāmaśataprabhaḥ
He will gain great wealth, which is rare in the three worlds.
लभते महतीं लक्ष्मीं त्रैलोक्ये चापि दुर्लभाम् ।
labhatē mahatīṁ lakṣmīṁ trailōkyē cāpi durlabhām
He who moves about with the eight siddhis, the powers of perfection,
अणिमाद्यष्टसिद्धोऽयं सञ्चरत्येष मानवः ॥ १४ ॥
aṇimādyaṣṭasiddhō:'yaṁ sañcaratyēṣa mānavaḥ
May he become the lord of all knowledge, the supreme lord of speech.
सर्वविद्यानिधिरयं भवेद्वागीश्वरेश्वरः ।
sarvavidyānidhirayaṁ bhavēdvāgīśvarēśvaraḥ
The brahmarakshasas, vetalas, bhutas, pretas, and pisachas
ब्रह्मराक्षसवेतालभूतप्रेतपिशाचकैः ॥ १५ ॥
brahmarākṣasavētālabhūtaprētapiśācakaiḥ
Are terrified by the blazing fire and other forms of fear,
ज्वलन्वह्न्यादिवत्त्रस्तैर्वीक्ष्यते भूतपूर्वकैः ।
jvalanvahnyādivattrastairvīkṣyatē bhūtapūrvakaiḥ
Attains the highest yoga and gains divine knowledge,
परमं योगमाप्नोति दिव्यज्ञानं समश्नुते ॥ १६ ॥
paramaṁ yōgamāpnōti divyajñānaṁ samaśnutē
Will have sons and grandsons endowed with prosperity and brilliance.
पुत्रान् पौत्रानवाप्नोति श्रीर्विद्याकान्ति सम्युतान् ।
putrān pautrānavāpnōti śrīrvidyākānti samyutān
That wife, too, if unfortunate, will experience pleasure equal to beauty,
तद्भार्या दुर्भगा चापि कान्त्या रतिसमा भवेत् ॥ १७ ॥
tadbhāryā durbhagā cāpi kāntyā ratisamā bhavēt
Will attain all desires and rare great enjoyments,
सर्वान् कामानवाप्नोति महाभोगान् सुदुर्लभान् ।
sarvān kāmānavāpnōti mahābhōgān sudurlabhān
Ultimately achieving liberation, becoming one with the supreme Shiva.
मुक्तिमन्ते समाप्नोति साक्षात्परशिवो भवेत् ॥ १८ ॥
muktimantē samāpnōti sākṣātparaśivō bhavēt
Thus, in the great secret of Shri Mahagamarahasya,
इति श्री महागमरहस्ये दत्तात्रेय वामदेव संवादे सप्तमपरिच्छेदे श्री मातङ्गी कवचम् ।
iti śrī mahāgamarahasyē dattātrēya vāmadēva saṁvādē saptamaparicchēdē śrī mātaṅgī kavacam
In the dialogue of Dattatreya and Vamadeva, in the seventh chapter, is the Kavach of Shri Matangi.
