अनुचितमनुलपितं मे त्वयि शंभो शिव तदागसश्शान्त्यै । अर्चां कथमपि विहितामङ्गीकुरु सर्वमङ्गलोपेत ॥ १ ॥
anucitamanulapitaṁ mē tvayi śaṁbhō śiva tadāgasaśśāntyai
O Lord Shiva, I offer my prayers to you for the peace of all beings.
ध्यायामि कथमिव त्वां धीवर्त्मविदूर दिव्यमहिमानम् । आवाहनं विभोस्ते देवाग्र्य भवेत्प्रभो कुतः स्थानात् ॥ २ ॥
arcāṁ kathamapi vihitāmaṅgīkuru sarvamaṅgalōpēta
How can I worship you with offerings that are appropriate and filled with auspiciousness?
कियदासनं प्रकल्प्यं कृतासनस्येह सर्वतोऽपि सह । पाद्यं कुतोऽर्घ्यमपि वा पाद्यं सर्वत्रपाणिपादस्य ॥ ३ ॥
dhyāyāmi kathamiva tvāṁ dhīvartmavidūra divyamahimānam
I meditate upon your divine glory, which is far beyond the reach of ordinary thought.
आचमनं ते स्यादधिभगवन् ते सर्वतोमुखस्य कथम् । मधुपर्को वा कथमिह मधुवैरिणि दर्शितप्रसादस्य ॥ ४ ॥
āvāhanaṁ vibhōstē dēvāgrya bhavētprabhō kutaḥ sthānāt
O Lord, how can I invoke you, the supreme deity, from this place?
स्नानेन किं विधेयं सलिलकृतेनेह नित्यशुद्धस्य । वस्त्रेणापि न कार्यं देवाधिपते दिगंबरस्येह ॥ ५ ॥
kiyadāsanaṁ prakalpyaṁ kr̥tāsanasyēha sarvatō:'pi saha
How many seats should I prepare for you, who are present everywhere?
स्फुरति हि सर्पाभरणं सर्वाङ्गे सर्वमङ्गलाकार । अतिवर्णाश्रमिणस्तेऽस्त्युपवीतेनेह कश्चिदुत्कर्षः ॥ ६ ॥
pādyaṁ kutō:'rghyamapi vā pādyaṁ sarvatrapāṇipādasya
Where should I place the water for washing your feet, who have feet that touch all?
गन्धवती हि तनुस्ते गन्धाः किं नेश पौनरुक्ताय । पुष्कलफलदातारं पुष्करकुसुमेन पूजयामि त्वाम् ॥ ७ ॥
ācamanaṁ tē syādadhibhagavan tē sarvatōmukhasya katham
How can I perform the ritual of purification for you, who are present in all directions?
शमधनमूलधनं त्वां सकलेश्वर भवसि धूपितः केन । दीपः कथं शिखावान् दीप्येत पुरः स्वयंप्रकाशस्य ॥ ८ ॥
madhuparkō vā kathamiha madhuvairiṇi darśitaprasādasya
How should I offer the sweet honey, which is a gift from the enemy of the bee?
अमृतात्मकमपि भगवन्नशनं किन्नाम नित्यतृप्तस्य । त्वय्याम्रेडितमेतत्तांबूलं यदिह सुमुखरागाय ॥ ९ ॥
snānēna kiṁ vidhēyaṁ salilakr̥tēnēha nityaśuddhasya
What should be done with the water for bathing, when you are eternally pure?
उपहारीभूयादिदमुमेश यन्मे विचेष्टितमशेषम् । नीराजयामि तमिमं नानात्मानं सहाखिलैः करणैः ॥ १० ॥
vastrēṇāpi na kāryaṁ dēvādhipatē digaṁbarasyēha
O Lord of the gods, should I not offer you clothing, as you are the one who is naked?
सुमनश्शेखर भव ते सुमनोऽञ्जलिरेष को भवेच्छंभो । छत्रं द्युमन् द्युमार्धन् चामरमपि किं जितश्रमस्य तव ॥ ११ ॥
sphurati hi sarpābharaṇaṁ sarvāṅgē sarvamaṅgalākāra
Your body shines with the ornaments of serpents, which adorn all parts of you.
नृत्यं प्रथतां कथमिव नाथ तवाग्रे महानटस्येह । गीतं किं पुरवैरिन् गीतागममूलदेशिकस्य पुरः ॥ १२ ॥
ativarṇāśramiṇastē:'styupavītēnēha kaścidutkarṣaḥ
In the forest of the ashram, is there anyone who is superior to you, who wears the sacred thread?
वाद्यं डमरु भृतस्ते वादयितुं ते पुरोऽस्ति का शक्तिः । अपरिच्छिन्नस्य भवेदखिलेश्वर कः प्रदक्षिणविधिस्ते ॥ १३ ॥
gandhavatī hi tanustē gandhāḥ kiṁ nēśa paunaruktāya
Your body is fragrant; why should I not offer you the essence of flowers?
स्युस्ते नमांसि कथमिव शङ्कर परितोऽपि विद्यमानस्य । वाचामगोचरे त्वयि वाक्प्रसरो मे कथं सुसंभवतु ॥ १४ ॥
puṣkalaphaladātāraṁ puṣkarakusumēna pūjayāmi tvām
I worship you with the flower of the lotus, which grants abundant fruits.
नित्यानन्दाय नमो निर्मलविज्ञानविग्रहाय नमः । निरवधिकरुणाय नमो निरवधिविभवाय तेजसेऽस्तु नमः ॥ १५ ॥
śamadhanamūladhanaṁ tvāṁ sakalēśvara bhavasi dhūpitaḥ kēna
You are the source of all wealth and prosperity; who has offered you incense?
सरसिजविपक्षचूडः सगरतनूजन्मसुकृतमूर्धाऽसौ । दृक्कूलङ्कषकरुणो दृष्टिपथे मेऽस्तु धवलिमा कोऽपि ॥ १६ ॥
dīpaḥ kathaṁ śikhāvān dīpyēta puraḥ svayaṁprakāśasya
How can a lamp, shining with a flame, illuminate itself in the presence of the self-illuminating one?
जगदाधारशरासं जगदुत्पादप्रवीणयन्तारम् । जगदवनकर्मठशरं जगदुद्धारं श्रयामि चित्सारम् ॥ १७ ॥
amr̥tātmakamapi bhagavannaśanaṁ kinnāma nityatr̥ptasya
What is the name of the eternal satisfaction of the Lord, who is the essence of immortality, if it is not consumed?
कुवलयसहयुध्वगलैः कुलगिरिकूटस्थकवचितार्धाङ्गैः । कलुषविदूरैश्चेतः कबलितमेतत्कृपारसैः किञ्चित् ॥ १८ ॥
tvayyāmrēḍitamētattāṁbūlaṁ yadiha sumukharāgāya
If this betel leaf is offered to you, who are of pleasing countenance,
वसनवतेकत्कृत्त्या वासवते रजतशैलशिखरेण । वलयवते भोगभृता वनितार्धाङ्गाय वस्तुनेऽस्तु नमः ॥ १९ ॥
upahārībhūyādidamumēśa yanmē vicēṣṭitamaśēṣam
Let this be a gift to you, O Lord, as my every action is dedicated to you.
सरसिजकुवलय-जागरसंवेशन जागरूकलोचनतः । सकृदपि नाहं जाने सुतरान्तं भाष्यकारमञ्जीरात् ॥ २० ॥
nīrājayāmi tamimaṁ nānātmānaṁ sahākhilaiḥ karaṇaiḥ
I worship this being with many forms and branches through my actions.
आपाटलजूटाना-मानीलच्छायकन्धरा-सीम्नाम् । आपाण्डुविग्रहाणामाद्रुहिणं किङ्करा वयं महसाम् ॥ २१ ॥
sumanaśśēkhara bhava tē sumanō:'ñjalirēṣa kō bhavēcchaṁbhō
May you, O Lord of good thoughts, be the recipient of my offerings; who else could be worthy?
मुषितस्मरावलेपे मुनितनयायुर्वदान्यपदपद्मे । महसि मनो रमतां मे मनसि दयापूरमेदुरापाङ्गे ॥ २२ ॥
chatraṁ dyuman dyumārdhan cāmaramapi kiṁ jitaśramasya tava
What is the umbrella, the radiant one, and the fan, if not for the one who conquers fatigue?
शर्मणि जगतां गिरिजानर्मणि सप्रेमहृदयपरिपाके । ब्रह्मणि विनमद्रक्षणकर्मणि तस्मिन्नुदेतु भक्तिर्मे ॥ २३ ॥
nr̥tyaṁ prathatāṁ kathamiva nātha tavāgrē mahānaṭasyēha
How can the dance of the great dancer be revealed before you, O Lord?
कस्मिन्नपि समये मम कण्ठच्छायाविधूतकालाभ्रम् । अस्तु पुरो वस्तु किमप्यर्धाङ्गेदरमुन्मिषन्निटलम् ॥ २४ ॥
gītaṁ kiṁ puravairin gītāgamamūladēśikasya puraḥ
What is the song of the city if it is not the essence of the teachings sung by the enemies?
जटिलाय मौलिभागे जलधर नीलाय कन्धराभोगे । धवलाय वपुषि निखिले धाम्नेस्स्यान्मानसे नमोवाकः ॥ २५ ॥
vādyaṁ ḍamaru bhr̥tastē vādayituṁ tē purō:'sti kā śaktiḥ
What power do you have to play the drum, O one who holds it, to make it sound before you?
अकरविराजत्सुमृगै-रवृषतुरङ्गै-रमौलिधृतगङ्गैः । अकृतमनोभवभङ्गैरलमन्यैर्जगति दैवतं मन्यैः ॥ २६ ॥
aparicchinnasya bhavēdakhilēśvara kaḥ pradakṣiṇavidhistē
Who can perform the circumambulation of the infinite Lord, who is without boundaries?
कस्मै वच्मि दशां मे कस्येदृग्घृदयमस्ति शक्तिर्वा । कस्य बलं चोद्धर्तुं क्लेशात्त्वामन्तरा दयासिन्धो ॥ २७ ॥
syustē namāṁsi kathamiva śaṅkara paritō:'pi vidyamānasya
How can my salutations reach you, O Shankara, who is present all around?
याचे ह्यनभिनवं ते चन्द्रकलोत्तंस किञ्चिदपि वस्तु । मह्यं प्रदेहि भगवन् मदीयमेव स्वरूपमानन्दम् ॥ २८ ॥
vācāmagōcarē tvayi vākprasarō mē kathaṁ susaṁbhavatu
In your speech, how can my words find expression?
भगवन्बालतया वाऽभक्त्या वाऽप्यापदाकुलतया वा । मोहाविष्टतया वा माऽस्तु च ते मनसि यद्दुरुक्तं मे ॥ २९ ॥
nityānandāya namō nirmalavijñānavigrahāya namaḥ
Salutations to the eternal bliss, to the pure embodiment of knowledge, salutations to you.
यदि विश्वाधिकता ते यदि निगमागमपुराणयाथार्थ्यम् । यदि वा भक्तेषु दया तदिह महेशाशु पूर्णकामस्स्याम् ॥ ३० ॥
niravadhikaruṇāya namō niravadhivibhavāya tējasē:'stu namaḥ
Salutations to the boundless compassion, to the boundless wealth, may your brilliance shine forth!
इति शिवानन्दावधूतरचित शिवमानसिकपूजास्तोत्रम् । Vishwanatha Nagari Stava (Kashi Ashtakam) – विश्वनाथनगरी स्तवम् (काश्यष्टकम्)
