Sri Shiva Raksha Stotram

अस्य श्री शिवरक्षास्तोत्रमन्त्रस्य याज्ञवल्क्य ऋषिः । श्री सदाशिवो देवता । अनुष्टुप् छन्दः । श्री सदाशिवप्रीत्यर्थं शिवरक्षास्तोत्रजपे विनियोगः ॥

चरितं देवदेवस्य महादेवस्य पावनम् ।

अपारं परमोदारं चतुर्वर्गस्य साधनम् ॥ १ ॥
anuṣṭup chandaḥ
This hymn of protection for Lord Shiva is composed by the sage Yajnavalkya.
गौरीविनायकोपेतं पञ्चवक्त्रं त्रिनेत्रकम् ।
śrī sadāśivaprītyarthaṁ śivarakṣāstōtrajapē viniyōgaḥ
The deity is the eternal Sadashiva.
शिवं ध्यात्वा दशभुजं शिवरक्षां पठेन्नरः ॥ २ ॥
caritaṁ dēvadēvasya mahādēvasya pāvanam

गङ्गाधरः शिरः पातु फालमर्धेन्दुशेखरः ।
apāraṁ paramōdāraṁ caturvargasya sādhanam

नयने मदनध्वंसी कर्णौ सर्पविभूषणः ॥ ३ ॥
gaurīvināyakōpētaṁ pañcavaktraṁ trinētrakam
The story of the Lord of Lords, the Great God, is sacred.
घ्राणं पातु पुरारातिः मुखं पातु जगत्पतिः ।
śivaṁ dhyātvā daśabhujaṁ śivarakṣāṁ paṭhēnnaraḥ
It is an infinite and supremely generous means for attaining the four goals of life.
जिह्वां वागीश्वरः पातु कन्धरां शितिकन्धरः ॥ ४ ॥
gaṅgādharaḥ śiraḥ pātu phālamardhēnduśēkharaḥ
Accompanied by Gauri and Vinayaka, with five faces and three eyes.
श्रीकण्ठः पातु मे कण्ठं स्कन्धौ विश्वधुरन्धरः ।
nayanē madanadhvaṁsī karṇau sarpavibhūṣaṇaḥ
One who meditates on Shiva, the ten-armed one, should recite the hymn of protection.
भुजौ भूभारसंहर्ता करौ पातु पिनाकधृक् ॥ ५ ॥
ghrāṇaṁ pātu purārātiḥ mukhaṁ pātu jagatpatiḥ
May the bearer of the Ganges protect my head, and the half-moon on my forehead.
हृदयं शङ्करः पातु जठरं गिरिजापतिः ।
jihvāṁ vāgīśvaraḥ pātu kandharāṁ śitikandharaḥ
May the destroyer of love protect my eyes, and the one adorned with serpents guard my ears.
नाभिं मृत्युञ्जयः पातु कटिं व्याघ्राजिनाम्बरः ॥ ६ ॥
śrīkaṇṭhaḥ pātu mē kaṇṭhaṁ skandhau viśvadhurandharaḥ
May the Lord of the Universe protect my nose, and may the Lord of Speech protect my tongue.
सक्थिनी पातु दीनार्तशरणागतवत्सलः ।
bhujau bhūbhārasaṁhartā karau pātu pinākadhr̥k
May the one with a beautiful throat protect my throat, and may the one who bears the universe protect my shoulders.
ऊरू महेश्वरः पातु जानुनी जगदीश्वरः ॥ ७ ॥
hr̥dayaṁ śaṅkaraḥ pātu jaṭharaṁ girijāpatiḥ
May the destroyer of the burden of the earth protect my arms, and may the one who holds the bow protect my hands.
जङ्घे पातु जगत्कर्ता गुल्फौ पातु गणाधिपः ।
nābhiṁ mr̥tyuñjayaḥ pātu kaṭiṁ vyāghrājināmbaraḥ
May Shankara protect my heart, and may the Lord of Girija protect my belly.
चरणौ करुणासिन्धुः सर्वाङ्गानि सदाशिवः ॥ ८ ॥
sakthinī pātu dīnārtaśaraṇāgatavatsalaḥ
May the death-conquering one protect the navel, may the one clad in tiger skin protect the waist.
एतां शिवबलोपेतां रक्षां यः सुकृती पठेत् ।
ūrū mahēśvaraḥ pātu jānunī jagadīśvaraḥ
May the great lord protect the thighs, may the lord of the universe protect the knees.
स भुक्त्वा सकलान् कामान् शिवसायुज्यमाप्नुयात् ॥ ९ ॥
jaṅghē pātu jagatkartā gulphau pātu gaṇādhipaḥ
May the creator of the world protect the shins, may the lord of the hosts protect the ankles.
ग्रहभूतपिशाचाद्याः त्रैलोक्ये विचरन्ति ये ।
caraṇau karuṇāsindhuḥ sarvāṅgāni sadāśivaḥ
May the ocean of compassion protect the feet, may the ever auspicious one protect all the limbs.
दूरादाशु पलायन्ते शिवनामाभिरक्षणात् ॥ १० ॥
ētāṁ śivabalōpētāṁ rakṣāṁ yaḥ sukr̥tī paṭhēt
Whoever recites this protective mantra, endowed with the power of Shiva,
अभयङ्करनामेदं कवचं पार्वतीपतेः ।
sa bhuktvā sakalān kāmān śivasāyujyamāpnuyāt
will attain all desires and the union with Shiva.
भक्त्या बिभर्ति यः कण्ठे तस्य वश्यं जगत्त्रयम् ॥ ११ ॥
grahabhūtapiśācādyāḥ trailōkyē vicaranti yē
Those who wander in the three worlds as planets, spirits, and others,
इमां नारायणः स्वप्ने शिवरक्षां यथाऽदिशत् ।
dūrādāśu palāyantē śivanāmābhirakṣaṇāt
quickly flee from afar when protected by the name of Shiva.
प्रातरुत्थाय योगीन्द्रो याज्ञवल्क्यः तथाऽलिखत् ॥ १२ ॥
abhayaṅkaranāmēdaṁ kavacaṁ pārvatīpatēḥ
This armor, named "Fear-Dispelling," belongs to the lord of Parvati.
इति श्रीयाज्ञवल्क्यप्रोक्तं शिवरक्षास्तोत्रम् ।
bhaktyā bibharti yaḥ kaṇṭhē tasya vaśyaṁ jagattrayam
He who wears it with devotion will have the three worlds under his control.
Advaitha lakshanam – अद्वैतलक्षणम्
imāṁ nārāyaṇaḥ svapnē śivarakṣāṁ yathā:'diśat
Just as Narayana instructed in a dream about this Shiva protection,
Sri Ayyappa Pancharatnam – श्री शास्ता (अय्यप्प) पञ्चरत्नम्
prātarutthāya yōgīndrō yājñavalkyaḥ tathā:'likhat
the yogi Yajnavalkya wrote it down upon rising in the morning.
