Sri Subrahmanya Hrudaya Stotram
The Sri Subrahmanya Hrudaya Stotram is a hymn that emphasizes heartfelt devotion to Lord Murugan, seeking his love and compassion.
श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
asya śrīsubrahmaṇyahr̥dayastōtramahāmantrasya, agastyō bhagavān r̥ṣiḥ, anuṣṭupchandaḥ, śrīsubrahmaṇyō dēvatā, sauṁ bījaṁ, svāhā śaktiḥ, śrīṁ kīlakaṁ, śrīsubrahmaṇya prasādasiddhyarthē japē viniyōgaḥ
This is the great mantra of the heart of Lord Subrahmanya, composed by the sage Agastya, in the Anuṣṭup meter, with Lord Subrahmanya as the deity, the seed syllable being 'sauṁ', the power being 'svāhā', and the key being 'śrīṁ', for the purpose of attaining the grace of Lord Subrahmanya, the usage for chanting is established.
अस्य श्रीसुब्रह्मण्यहृदयस्तोत्रमहामन्त्रस्य, अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः, अनुष्टुप्छन्दः, श्रीसुब्रह्मण्यो देवता, सौं बीजं, स्वाहा शक्तिः, श्रीं कीलकं, श्रीसुब्रह्मण्य प्रसादसिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ॥
karanyāsaḥ – subrahmaṇyāya aṅguṣṭhābhyāṁ namaḥ
Salutation to Subrahmanya with the thumb.
करन्यासः –
ṣaṇmukhāya tarjanībhyāṁ namaḥ
Salutation to Shanmukha with the index finger.
सुब्रह्मण्याय अङ्गुष्ठाभ्यां नमः ।
śaktidharāya madhyamābhyāṁ namaḥ
Salutation to the bearer of power with the middle finger.
षण्मुखाय तर्जनीभ्यां नमः । शक्तिधराय मध्यमाभ्यां नमः ।
ṣaṭkōṇasaṁsthitāya anāmikābhyāṁ namaḥ
Salutation to the one situated in the hexagon with the ring finger.
षट्कोणसंस्थिताय अनामिकाभ्यां नमः । सर्वतोमुखाय कनिष्ठिकाभ्यां नमः ।
sarvatōmukhāya kaniṣṭhikābhyāṁ namaḥ
Salutation to the one with faces in all directions with the little finger.
तारकान्तकाय करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः ॥
tārakāntakāya karatalakarapr̥ṣṭhābhyāṁ namaḥ
Salutation to the one who destroys the stars with the palms of the hands.
हृदयादि न्यासः –
hr̥dayādi nyāsaḥ – subrahmaṇyāya hr̥dayāya namaḥ
Salutation to Subrahmanya at the heart.
सुब्रह्मण्याय हृदयाय नमः । षण्मुखाय शिरसे स्वाहा ।
ṣaṇmukhāya śirasē svāhā
Salutation to Shanmukha at the head, so be it.
शक्तिधराय शिखायै वषट् । षट्कोणसंस्थिताय कवचाय हुम् ।
śaktidharāya śikhāyai vaṣaṭ
To the bearer of power, I offer my top-knot, hail!
सर्वतोमुखाय नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् । तारकान्तकाय अस्त्राय फट् ।
ṣaṭkōṇasaṁsthitāya kavacāya hum
To the one situated in the hexagon, I offer my armor, hum!
भूर्भुवस्सुवरोमिति दिग्बन्धः ॥
sarvatōmukhāya nētratrayāya vauṣaṭ
To the one with faces in all directions, I offer my three eyes, vauṣaṭ!

tārakāntakāya astrāya phaṭ
To the one who destroys the stars, I offer my weapon, phaṭ!
षड्वक्त्रं शिखिवाहनं त्रिनयनं चित्राम्बरालङ्कृतं
bhūrbhuvassuvarōmiti digbandhaḥ
With the words 'bhūrbhuvassuvarōmiti', I bind the directions.
वज्रं शक्तिमसिं त्रिशूलमभयं खेटं धनुश्चक्रकम् ।

पाशं कुक्कुटमङ्कुशं च वरदं दोर्भिर्दधानं सदा
ṣaḍvaktraṁ śikhivāhanaṁ trinayanaṁ citrāmbarālaṅkr̥taṁ vajraṁ śaktimasiṁ triśūlamabhayaṁ khēṭaṁ dhanuścakrakam
With six faces, riding a peacock, three-eyed, adorned with colorful garments,
ध्यायामीप्सित सिद्धिदं शिवसुतं श्रीद्वादशाक्षं गुहम् ॥
pāśaṁ kukkuṭamaṅkuśaṁ ca varadaṁ dōrbhirdadhānaṁ sadā dhyāyāmīpsita siddhidaṁ śivasutaṁ śrīdvādaśākṣaṁ guham
A thunderbolt, a powerful weapon, a trident, fearless, a field, a bow, and a wheel,
लमित्यादि पञ्चपूजां कुर्यात् । पीठिका ।
lamityādi pañcapūjāṁ kuryāt
Holding a noose, a rooster, a goad, and a boon, always in hand,
सत्यलोके सदानन्दे मुनिभिः परिवेष्टितम् । पप्रच्छुर्मुनयः सर्वे ब्रह्माणं जगतां गुरुम् ॥ १ ॥

I meditate on the son of Shiva, the bestower of desired accomplishments, the glorious twelve-eyed one, Guha.
भगवन् सर्वलोकेश सर्वज्ञ कमलासन । सदानन्द ज्ञानमूर्ते सर्वभूतहिते रत ॥ २ ॥
satyalōkē sadānandē munibhiḥ parivēṣṭitam
One should perform the fivefold worship beginning with Lam.
बहुधा प्रोक्तमेतस्य गुहस्य चरितं महत् । हृदयं श्रोतुमिच्छामः तस्यैव क्रौञ्चभेदिनः ॥ ३ ॥
papracchurmunayaḥ sarvē brahmāṇaṁ jagatāṁ gurum
In the realm of truth, ever blissful, surrounded by sages,
ब्रह्मोवाच । शृण्वन्तु मुनयः सर्वे गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं महत् ।
bhagavan sarvalōkēśa sarvajña kamalāsana
All the sages asked Brahma, the teacher of the universe,
सुब्रह्मण्यस्य हृदयं सर्वभूतहितोदयम् ॥ ४ ॥
sadānanda jñānamūrtē sarvabhūtahitē rata
O Lord, Lord of all worlds, all-knowing, seated on a lotus,
सर्वार्थसिद्धिदं पुण्यं सर्वकार्यैक साधनम् ।
bahudhā prōktamētasya guhasya caritaṁ mahat
Embodiment of eternal bliss and knowledge, devoted to the welfare of all beings,
धर्मार्थकामदं गुह्यं धनधान्यप्रवर्धनम् ॥ ५ ॥
hr̥dayaṁ śrōtumicchāmaḥ tasyaiva krauñcabhēdinaḥ
The great story of this cave has been spoken in many ways,
रहस्यमेतद्देवानां अदेयं यस्य कस्यचित् ।
brahmōvāca
We wish to hear the heart of that one who splits the crane.
सर्वमित्रकरं गोप्यं तेजोबलसमन्वितम् ॥ ६ ॥
śr̥ṇvantu munayaḥ sarvē guhyādguhyataraṁ mahat
Brahma spoke:
प्रवक्ष्यामि हितार्थं वः परितुष्टेन चेतसा ।
subrahmaṇyasya hr̥dayaṁ sarvabhūtahitōdayam
Let all the sages listen; from the secret, the more secret, the great,
हृत्पद्मकर्णिकामध्ये ध्यायेत्सर्वमनोहरम् ॥ ७ ॥
sarvārthasiddhidaṁ puṇyaṁ sarvakāryaika sādhanam
The heart of Subrahmanya, the rise of welfare for all beings,
अथ हृदयम् ।
dharmārthakāmadaṁ guhyaṁ dhanadhānyapravardhanam
Bestower of all accomplishments, a sacred one, the sole means for all endeavors,
सुवर्णमण्डपं दिव्यं रत्नतोरणराजितम् । रत्नस्तम्भसहस्रैश्च शोभितं परमाद्भुतम् ॥ ८ ॥
rahasyamētaddēvānāṁ adēyaṁ yasya kasyacit
The secret that fulfills righteousness, wealth, and desires, and promotes prosperity.
परमानन्दनिलयं भास्वत्सूर्यसमप्रभम् । देवदानवगन्धर्वगरुडैर्यक्षकिन्नरैः । ॥ ९ ॥
sarvamitrakaraṁ gōpyaṁ tējōbalasamanvitam
This is a secret of the gods, not to be given to anyone.
सेवार्थमागतैः सिद्धैः साध्यैरध्युषितं सदा । महायोगीन्द्रसंसेव्यं मन्दारतरुमण्डितम् ॥ १० ॥
pravakṣyāmi hitārthaṁ vaḥ parituṣṭēna cētasā
It is to be kept hidden, endowed with the power of light.
मणिविद्रुमवेदीभिर्महतीभिरुदञ्चितम् । तन्मध्येऽनन्तरत्न श्रीच्छटामण्डलशोभितम् ॥ ११ ॥
hr̥tpadmakarṇikāmadhyē dhyāyētsarvamanōharam
I will explain it for your benefit, with a mind that is pleased.
रत्नसिंहासनं दिव्यं रविकोटिसमप्रभम् । सर्वाश्चर्यमयं पुण्यं सर्वतः सुपरिष्कृतम् ॥ १२ ॥
atha hr̥dayam
One should meditate on the heart, which is most enchanting,
तन्मध्येऽष्टदलं पद्मं उद्यदर्कप्रभोदयम् । निगमागमरोलम्बलम्बितं चिन्मयोदयम् ॥ १३ ॥
suvarṇamaṇḍapaṁ divyaṁ ratnatōraṇarājitam
Now the heart.
दिव्यं तेजोमयं दिव्यं देवताभिर्नमस्कृतम् । देदीप्यमानं रुचिभिर्विशालं सुमनोहरम् ॥ १४ ॥
ratnastambhasahasraiśca śōbhitaṁ paramādbhutam
A divine golden pavilion adorned with a canopy of jewels,
तन्मध्ये सर्वलोकेशं ध्यायेत्सर्वाङ्गसुन्दरम् । अनन्तादित्यसङ्काशं आश्रिताभीष्टदायकम् ॥ १५ ॥
paramānandanilayaṁ bhāsvatsūryasamaprabham
Illuminated by thousands of jewel pillars, it is supremely wondrous.
अचिन्त्यज्ञानविज्ञानतेजोबलसमन्वितम् । सर्वायुधधरं दिव्यं सर्वाश्चर्यमयं गुहम् ॥ १६ ॥
dēvadānavagandharvagaruḍairyakṣakinnaraiḥ
The abode of the highest bliss, shining like the sun.
महार्ह रत्नखचित षट्किरीटविराजितम् । शशाङ्कार्धकलारम्य समुद्यन्मौलिभूषणम् ॥ १७ ॥
sēvārthamāgataiḥ siddhaiḥ sādhyairadhyuṣitaṁ sadā
It is always served by gods, demons, celestial musicians, eagles, and kinnara.
मदनोज्ज्वलकोदण्डमङ्गलभ्रूविराजितम् । विस्तीर्णारुणपद्मश्री विलसद्द्वादशेक्षणम् ॥ १८ ॥
mahāyōgīndrasaṁsēvyaṁ mandāratarumaṇḍitam
It is perpetually inhabited by accomplished beings who come for service.
चारुश्रीवर्णसम्पूर्णमुखशोभाविभासुरम् । मणिप्रभासमग्रश्रीस्फुरन्मकरकुण्डलम् ॥ १९ ॥
maṇividrumavēdībhirmahatībhirudañcitam
It is to be served by great yogis, adorned with the mandara tree.
लसद्दर्पणदर्पाढ्य गण्डस्थलविराजितम् । दिव्यकाञ्चनपुष्पश्रीनासापुटविराजितम् ॥ २० ॥
tanmadhyē:'nantaratna śrīcchaṭāmaṇḍalaśōbhitam
With great coral and gem-laden platforms, it is splendidly elevated.
मन्दहासप्रभाजालमधुराधर शोभितम् । सर्वलक्षणलक्ष्मीभृत्कम्बुकन्धर सुन्दरम् ॥ २१ ॥
ratnasiṁhāsanaṁ divyaṁ ravikōṭisamaprabham
In its midst, the supreme gem, the glorious canopy of the goddess, shines.
महानर्घमहारत्नदिव्यहारविराजितम् । समग्रनागकेयूरसन्नद्धभुजमण्डलम् ॥ २२ ॥
sarvāścaryamayaṁ puṇyaṁ sarvataḥ supariṣkr̥tam
A divine throne of jewels, radiant like a million suns,
रत्नकङ्कणसम्भास्वत्कराग्र श्रीमहोज्ज्वलम् । महामणिकवाटाभवक्षःस्थलविराजितम् ॥ २३ ॥
tanmadhyē:'ṣṭadalaṁ padmaṁ udyadarkaprabhōdayam
It is filled with all wonders, perfectly adorned from all sides.
अतिगाम्भीर्यसम्भाव्यनाभीनवसरोरुहम् । रत्नश्रीकलिताबद्धलसन्मध्यप्रदेशकम् ॥ २४ ॥
nigamāgamarōlambalambitaṁ cinmayōdayam
In the midst of that, a lotus with eight petals, rising like the sun,
स्फुरत्कनकसंवीतपीताम्बरसमावृतम् । शृङ्गाररससम्पूर्ण रत्नस्तम्भोपमोरुकम् ॥ २५ ॥
divyaṁ tējōmayaṁ divyaṁ dēvatābhirnamaskr̥tam
Illuminated by the light of the scriptures, adorned with divine knowledge.
स्वर्णकाहलरोचिष्णु जङ्घायुगलमण्डलम् । रत्नमञ्जीरसन्नद्ध रमणीय पदाम्बुजम् ॥ २६ ॥
dēdīpyamānaṁ rucibhirviśālaṁ sumanōharam
It is divine, radiant with light, honored by the deities,
भक्ताभीष्टप्रदं देवं ब्रह्मविष्ण्वादिसंस्तुतम् । कटाक्षैः करुणादक्षैस्तोषयन्तं जगत्पतिम् ॥ २७ ॥
tanmadhyē sarvalōkēśaṁ dhyāyētsarvāṅgasundaram
Shining brightly, vast and beautiful, adorned with lovely fragrances.
चिदानन्दज्ञानमूर्तिं सर्वलोकप्रियङ्करम् । शङ्करस्यात्मजं देवं ध्यायेच्छरवणोद्भवम् ॥ २८ ॥
anantādityasaṅkāśaṁ āśritābhīṣṭadāyakam
In the center, one should meditate on the lord of all worlds,
अनन्तादित्यचन्द्राग्नि तेजः सम्पूर्णविग्रहम् । सर्वलोकैकवरदं सर्वविद्यार्थतत्त्वकम् ॥ २९ ॥
acintyajñānavijñānatējōbalasamanvitam
Resplendent like the infinite sun, bestowing all desired blessings.
सर्वेश्वरं सर्वविभुं सर्वभूतहिते रतम् । एवं ध्यात्वा तु हृदयं षण्मुखस्य महात्मनः ॥ ३० ॥
sarvāyudhadharaṁ divyaṁ sarvāścaryamayaṁ guham
Endowed with unfathomable knowledge and the power of wisdom,
सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति सम्यक् ज्ञानं च विन्दति । शुचौ देशे समासीनः शुद्धात्मा चरिताह्निकः ॥ ३१ ॥
mahārha ratnakhacita ṣaṭkirīṭavirājitam
Holding all weapons, divine, full of wonders, hidden in mystery.
प्राङ्मुखो यतचित्तश्च जपेद्धृदयमुत्तमम् । सकृदेव मनुं जप्त्वा सम्प्राप्नोत्यखिलं शुभम् ॥ ३२ ॥
śaśāṅkārdhakalāramya samudyanmaulibhūṣaṇam
Adorned with precious gems, splendid with six crowns,
इदं सर्वाघहरणं मृत्युदारिद्र्यनाशनम् । सर्वसम्पत्करं पुण्यं सर्वरोगनिवारणम् ॥ ३३ ॥
madanōjjvalakōdaṇḍamaṅgalabhrūvirājitam
Beautiful like the half-moon, a jewel in the crown of the rising sun.
सर्वकामकरं दिव्यं सर्वाभीष्टप्रदायकम् । प्रजाकरं राज्यकरं भाग्यदं बहुपुण्यदम् ॥ ३४ ॥
vistīrṇāruṇapadmaśrī vilasaddvādaśēkṣaṇam
Radiant with the brilliance of love, adorned with auspicious eyebrows,
गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं भूयो देवानामपि दुर्लभम् । इदं तु नातपस्काय नाभक्ताय कदाचन ॥ ३५ ॥
cāruśrīvarṇasampūrṇamukhaśōbhāvibhāsuram
With expansive, red lotus-like glory, possessing twelve eyes.
न चाशुश्रूषवे देयं न मदान्धाय कर्हिचित् । सच्छिष्याय कुलीनाय स्कन्दभक्तिरताय च ॥ ३६ ॥
maṇiprabhāsamagraśrīsphuranmakarakuṇḍalam
A beautiful face, full of charming radiance, shining brightly,
सतामभिमतायेदं दातव्यं धर्मवर्धनम् । य इदं परमं पुण्यं नित्यं जपति मानवः ।
lasaddarpaṇadarpāḍhya gaṇḍasthalavirājitam
With a necklace of gems, sparkling with the glory of the makara earrings,
तस्य श्री भगवान् स्कन्दः प्रसन्नो भवति ध्रुवम् ॥ ३७ ॥
divyakāñcanapuṣpaśrīnāsāpuṭavirājitam
Adorned with a shining forehead, embellished with a charming appearance.
इति श्रीस्कान्दपुराणे सुब्रह्मण्यहृदयस्तोत्रम् ॥
mandahāsaprabhājālamadhurādhara śōbhitam
Adorned with divine golden flowers, radiating from the beautiful nose,
श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
sarvalakṣaṇalakṣmībhr̥tkambukandhara sundaram
Illuminated by a gentle smile, graced with a sweet mouth,
