Sri Subrahmanya Mangala Ashtakam
The Sri Subrahmanya Mangala Ashtakam is an eight-verse hymn that extols the auspicious qualities of Lord Murugan and seeks his blessings for prosperity.
श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
śivayōstanujāyāstu śritamandāraśākhinē
To Lord Subrahmanya, the auspicious one,
शिवयोस्तनुजायास्तु श्रितमन्दारशाखिने ।
śikhivaryaturaṅgāya subrahmaṇyāya maṅgalam
May blessings be upon the son of Shiva, who is the refuge of the Mandara flower.
शिखिवर्यतुरङ्गाय सुब्रह्मण्याय मङ्गलम् ॥ १ ॥
bhaktābhīṣṭapradāyāstu bhavarōgavināśinē
To the best of birds, the horse of the gods, may auspiciousness be upon Subrahmanya.
भक्ताभीष्टप्रदायास्तु भवरोगविनाशिने ।
rājarājādivandyāya raṇadhīrāya maṅgalam
To the one who grants the wishes of devotees and destroys worldly ailments,
राजराजादिवन्द्याय रणधीराय मङ्गलम् ॥ २ ॥
śūrapadmādidaitēyatamisrakulabhānavē
May blessings be upon the one who is worshipped by kings and heroes.
शूरपद्मादिदैतेयतमिस्रकुलभानवे ।
tārakāsurakālāya bālakāyāstu maṅgalam
To the one who is the essence of valor, the lotus-born, and the one who dispels darkness,
तारकासुरकालाय बालकायास्तु मङ्गलम् ॥ ३ ॥
vallīvadanarājīva madhupāya mahātmanē
May auspiciousness be upon the child who vanquishes the demon Taraka.
वल्लीवदनराजीव मधुपाय महात्मने ।
ullasanmaṇikōṭīrabhāsurāyāstu maṅgalam
To the great soul who is like a bee to the blooming lotus of the goddess of wealth,
उल्लसन्मणिकोटीरभासुरायास्तु मङ्गलम् ॥ ४ ॥
kandarpakōṭilāvaṇyanidhayē kāmadāyinē
May blessings be upon the one who shines like a multitude of jewels.
कन्दर्पकोटिलावण्यनिधये कामदायिने ।
kuliśāyudhahastāya kumārāyāstu maṅgalam
To the one who is the treasure of beauty, the bestower of desires,
कुलिशायुधहस्ताय कुमारायास्तु मङ्गलम् ॥ ५ ॥
muktāhāralasatkaṇṭharājayē muktidāyinē
May auspiciousness be upon the one who wields the thunderbolt.
मुक्ताहारलसत्कण्ठराजये मुक्तिदायिने ।
dēvasēnāsamētāya daivatāyāstu maṅgalam
To the son of the goddess, who is the giver of liberation,
देवसेनासमेताय दैवतायास्तु मङ्गलम् ॥ ६ ॥
kanakāmbarasaṁśōbhikaṭayē kalihāriṇē
May blessings be upon the one who is accompanied by the army of gods.
कनकाम्बरसंशोभिकटये कलिहारिणे ।
kamalāpativandyāya kārtikēyāya maṅgalam
To the one who is adorned with golden garments, the vanquisher of the age of Kali,
कमलापतिवन्द्याय कार्तिकेयाय मङ्गलम् ॥ ७ ॥
śarakānanajātāya śūrāya śubhadāyinē
May auspiciousness be upon the one who is worshipped by the consort of the lotus.
शरकाननजाताय शूराय शुभदायिने ।
śītabhānusamāsyāya śaraṇyāyāstu maṅgalam
To the one who is born from the forest of arrows, the brave one who bestows good fortune,
शीतभानुसमास्याय शरण्यायास्तु मङ्गलम् ॥ ८ ॥
maṅgalāṣṭakamētadyē mahāsēnasya mānavāḥ
May blessings be upon you.
मङ्गलाष्टकमेतद्ये महासेनस्य मानवाः ।
paṭhantī pratyahaṁ bhaktyā prāpnuyustē parāṁ śriyam
May auspiciousness be unto those who take refuge in the cool sun.
पठन्ती प्रत्यहं भक्त्या प्राप्नुयुस्ते परां श्रियम् ॥ ९ ॥
iti śrī subrahmaṇya maṅgalāṣṭakam
