Sri Subrahmanya Shodasa nama stotram
The Sri Subrahmanya Shodasa nama stotram is a hymn that lists the sixteen names of Lord Murugan, each representing different facets of his divine nature.
श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
asya śrī subrahmaṇya ṣōḍaśanāmastōtra mahāmantrasya agastyō bhagavānr̥ṣiḥ anuṣṭupchandaḥ subrahmaṇyō dēvatā mamēṣṭa siddhyarthē japē viniyōgaḥ
This is the great mantra of the sixteen names of Lord Subrahmaṇya, composed by the sage Agastya, in the Anuṣṭup meter, with the deity being Subrahmaṇya, for the purpose of attaining desired accomplishments.
अस्य श्री सुब्रह्मण्य षोडशनामस्तोत्र महामन्त्रस्य अगस्त्यो भगवानृषिः अनुष्टुप्छन्दः सुब्रह्मण्यो देवता ममेष्ट सिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ।

Meditate on him who has six faces, rides a peacock, has three eyes, and is adorned with colorful garments.
ध्यानम् । षड्वक्त्रं शिखिवाहनं त्रिनयनं चित्राम्बरालङ्कृतं
ṣaḍvaktraṁ śikhivāhanaṁ trinayanaṁ citrāmbarālaṅkr̥taṁ śaktiṁ vajramasiṁ triśūlamabhayaṁ khēṭaṁ dhanuścakrakam
He wields the power of the thunderbolt, the trident, is fearless, and holds the plough, bow, discus, noose, rooster, goad, and grants boons with his hands.
शक्तिं वज्रमसिं त्रिशूलमभयं खेटं धनुश्चक्रकम् । पाशं कुक्कुटमङ्कुशं च वरदं हस्तैर्दधानं सदा
pāśaṁ kukkuṭamaṅkuśaṁ ca varadaṁ hastairdadhānaṁ sadā dhyāyēdīpsitasiddhidaṁ śivasutaṁ skandaṁ surārādhitam
One should meditate on him, the giver of desired accomplishments, the son of Shiva, Skanda, who is worshipped by the gods.
ध्यायेदीप्सितसिद्धिदं शिवसुतं स्कन्दं सुराराधितम् ॥
prathamō jñānaśaktyātmā dvitīyaḥ skanda ēva ca
The first is the embodiment of knowledge and power, the second is Skanda himself.
प्रथमो ज्ञानशक्त्यात्मा द्वितीयः स्कन्द एव च ।
agnigarbhastr̥tīyastu bāhulēyaścaturthakaḥ
The third is Agnigarbha, the fourth is Bāhulēya.
अग्निगर्भस्तृतीयस्तु बाहुलेयश्चतुर्थकः ॥ १ ॥
gāṅgēyaḥ pañcamaḥ prōktaḥ ṣaṣṭhaḥ śaravaṇōdbhavaḥ
The fifth is known as Gāṅgēya, the sixth is the one born of Śaravaṇa.
गाङ्गेयः पञ्चमः प्रोक्तः षष्ठः शरवणोद्भवः ।
saptamaḥ kārtikēyaśca kumāraścāṣṭamastathā
The seventh is Kārtikēya, the eighth is the youthful Kumar.
सप्तमः कार्तिकेयश्च कुमारश्चाष्टमस्तथा ॥ २ ॥
navamaḥ ṣaṇmukhaḥ prōktō daśamastārakāntakaḥ
The ninth is called Ṣaṇmukha, the tenth is Tārakāntaka.
नवमः षण्मुखः प्रोक्तो दशमस्तारकान्तकः ।
ēkādaśaśca sēnānīḥ guhō dvādaśa ēva ca
The eleventh is the commander of the army, the twelfth is Guhā.
एकादशश्च सेनानीः गुहो द्वादश एव च ॥ ३ ॥
trayōdaśō brahmacārī śivatējaścaturdaśaḥ
The thirteenth is Brahmacārī, the fourteenth is Śivatēja.
त्रयोदशो ब्रह्मचारी शिवतेजश्चतुर्दशः ।
krauñcadārī pañcadaśaḥ ṣōḍaśaḥ śikhivāhanaḥ
The fifteenth is Krauñcadārī, the sixteenth is Śikhivāhana.
क्रौञ्चदारी पञ्चदशः षोडशः शिखिवाहनः ॥ ४ ॥
ṣōḍaśaitāni nāmāni yaḥ paṭhēdbhaktisamyutaḥ
Whoever recites these sixteen names, endowed with devotion,
षोडशैतानि नामानि यः पठेद्भक्तिसम्युतः ।
br̥haspatisamō vāci brahmatējōyutō bhavēt
Will become as eloquent as Brihaspati and endowed with the brilliance of Brahman.
बृहस्पतिसमो वाचि ब्रह्मतेजोयुतो भवेत् । यद्यत्प्रार्थये मर्त्यस्तत्सर्वं लभते ध्रुवम् ॥ ५ ॥
yadyatprārthayē martyastatsarvaṁ labhatē dhruvam
Whatever a mortal desires, he will surely obtain all of it.
इति श्री सुब्रह्मण्य षोडशनाम स्तोत्रम् । श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
iti śrī subrahmaṇya ṣōḍaśanāma stōtram
