अस्य श्री सुब्रह्मण्य कवचस्तोत्र महामन्त्रस्य अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः, अनुष्टुप्छन्दः श्री सुब्रह्मण्यो देवता, सं बीजं, स्वाहा शक्तिः, सः कीलकं, श्री सुब्रह्मण्यप्रसादसिद्ध्यर्थे जपे विनियोगः ।
nyāsaḥ – hiraṇyaśarīrāya aṅguṣṭhābhyāṁ namaḥ
This armor-stotra of Lord Subrahmanya is a great mantra, Agastya is the sage, Anuṣṭup is the meter, Lord Subrahmanya is the deity, the seed is “sa,” the power is “svāhā,” the key is “sa,” for the attainment of the grace of Lord Subrahmanya, the usage for chanting is prescribed.
न्यासः –
ikṣudhanurdharāya tarjanībhyāṁ namaḥ
The ritual of Nyasa –
हिरण्यशरीराय अङ्गुष्ठाभ्यां नमः ।
śaravaṇabhavāya madhyamābhyāṁ namaḥ
To the golden-bodied one, I bow with my thumbs.
इक्षुधनुर्धराय तर्जनीभ्यां नमः । शरवणभवाय मध्यमाभ्यां नमः ।
śikhivāhanāya anāmikābhyāṁ namaḥ
To the one who holds the sugarcane bow, I bow with my index fingers.
शिखिवाहनाय अनामिकाभ्यां नमः । शक्तिहस्ताय कनिष्ठिकाभ्यां नमः ।
śaktihastāya kaniṣṭhikābhyāṁ namaḥ
To the one who is born of Sharavana, I bow with my middle fingers.
सकलदुरितमोचनाय करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः । एवं हृदयादि न्यासः ॥
sakaladuritamōcanāya karatalakarapr̥ṣṭhābhyāṁ namaḥ
To the one who rides the peacock, I bow with my ring fingers.
ध्यानम् । कनककुण्डलमण्डितषण्मुखं
ēvaṁ hr̥dayādi nyāsaḥ
To the one who has a powerful hand, I bow with my little fingers.
वनजराजि विराजित लोचनम् । निशित शस्त्रशरासनधारिणं
dhyānam
To the one who removes all miseries, I bow with the palms of my hands.
शरवणोद्भवमीशसुतं भजे ॥
kanakakuṇḍalamaṇḍitaṣaṇmukhaṁ vanajarāji virājita lōcanam
Thus, the Nyasa is performed on the heart and other parts.
लमित्यादि पञ्चपूजा कुर्यात् ।
niśita śastraśarāsanadhāriṇaṁ śaravaṇōdbhavamīśasutaṁ bhajē
Meditation:
अगस्त्य उवाच । स्कन्दस्य कवचं दिव्यं नाना रक्षाकरं परम् ।
lamityādi pañcapūjā kuryāt
I worship the six-faced one adorned with golden ear ornaments,
पुरा पिनाकिना प्रोक्तं ब्रह्मणोऽनन्तशक्तये ॥ १ ॥
agastya uvāca
Whose eyes shine like the forest jewels,
तदहं सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि भद्रं ते शृणु नारद ।
skandasya kavacaṁ divyaṁ nānā rakṣākaraṁ param
Who wields sharp weapons and arrows,
अस्ति गुह्यं महापुण्यं सर्वप्राणि प्रियङ्करम् ॥ २ ॥
purā pinākinā prōktaṁ brahmaṇō:'nantaśaktayē
The son of the Lord born in Sharavana.
जपमात्रेण पापघ्नं सर्वकामफलप्रदम् ।
tadahaṁ sampravakṣyāmi bhadraṁ tē śr̥ṇu nārada
One should perform the fivefold worship starting with “lam.”
मन्त्रप्राणमिदं ज्ञेयं सर्वविद्यादिकारकम् ॥ ३ ॥
asti guhyaṁ mahāpuṇyaṁ sarvaprāṇi priyaṅkaram
Agastya said:
स्कन्दस्य कवचं दिव्यं पठनाद्व्याधिनाशनम् ।
japamātrēṇa pāpaghnaṁ sarvakāmaphalapradam
The divine armor of Skanda, which offers various protections,
पिशाच घोरभूतानां स्मरणादेव शान्तिदम् ॥ ४ ॥
mantraprāṇamidaṁ jñēyaṁ sarvavidyādikārakam
Was once proclaimed by the bow-wielder, Brahma, endowed with infinite power.
पठितं स्कन्दकवचं श्रद्धयानन्यचेतसा ।
skandasya kavacaṁ divyaṁ paṭhanādvyādhināśanam
Now I will explain to you, O Narada, the auspicious secret that is highly meritorious and dear to all living beings.
तेषां दारिद्र्यदुरितं न कदाचिद्भविष्यति ॥ ५ ॥
piśāca ghōrabhūtānāṁ smaraṇādēva śāntidam
Just by chanting it, it destroys sins and grants the fruits of all desires.
भूयः साम्राज्यसंसिद्धिरन्ते कैवल्यमक्षयम् ।
paṭhitaṁ skandakavacaṁ śraddhayānanyacētasā
This mantra is to be understood as the essence of all knowledge and the source of all learning.
दीर्घायुष्यं भवेत्तस्य स्कन्दे भक्तिश्च जायते ॥ ६ ॥
tēṣāṁ dāridryaduritaṁ na kadācidbhaviṣyati
The divine armor of Skanda, when recited, destroys diseases.
अथ कवचम् ।
bhūyaḥ sāmrājyasaṁsiddhirantē kaivalyamakṣayam
Simply remembering it calms the terrifying spirits and ghosts.
शिखां रक्षेत्कुमारस्तु कार्तिकेयः शिरोऽवतु । ललाटं पार्वतीसूनुः विशाखो भ्रूयुगं मम ॥ ७ ॥
dīrghāyuṣyaṁ bhavēttasya skandē bhaktiśca jāyatē
One who recites the Skanda armor with faith and unwavering mind will never face poverty or hardship.
लोचने क्रौञ्चभेदी च नासिकां शिखिवाहनः । कर्णद्वयं शक्तिधरः कर्णमूलं षडाननः ॥ ८ ॥
atha kavacam
In the end, they will attain the perfection of sovereignty and ultimately achieve liberation without decay.
गण्डयुग्मं महासेनः कपोलौ तारकान्तकः । ओष्ठद्वयं च सेनानीः रसनां शिखिवाहनः ॥ ९ ॥
śikhāṁ rakṣētkumārastu kārtikēyaḥ śirō:'vatu
Long life will be granted to them, and devotion to Skanda will arise.
तालू कलानिधिः पातु दन्तां देवशिखामणिः । गाङ्गेयश्चुबुकं पातु मुखं पातु शरोद्भवः ॥ १० ॥
lalāṭaṁ pārvatīsūnuḥ viśākhō bhrūyugaṁ mama
Now, the armor:
हनू हरसुतः पातु कण्ठं कारुण्यवारिधिः । स्कन्धावुमासुतः पातु बाहुलेयो भुजद्वयम् ॥ ११ ॥
lōcanē krauñcabhēdī ca nāsikāṁ śikhivāhanaḥ
Let the son of Parvati, Kartikeya, protect the crown of the head.
बाहू भवेद्भवः पातु स्तनौ पातु महोरगः । मध्यं जगद्विभुः पातु नाभिं द्वादशलोचनः ॥ १२ ॥
karṇadvayaṁ śaktidharaḥ karṇamūlaṁ ṣaḍānanaḥ
Let the son of Parvati protect the forehead; let the constellation Vishakha guard my eyebrows.
कटिं द्विषड्भुजः पातु गुह्यं गङ्गासुतोऽवतु । जघनं जाह्नवीसूनुः पृष्ठभागं परन्तपः ॥ १३ ॥
gaṇḍayugmaṁ mahāsēnaḥ kapōlau tārakāntakaḥ
Let the one who can split the Krauncha bird protect my eyes; let the peacock vehicle guard my nose.
ऊरू रक्षेदुमापुत्रः जानुयुग्मं जगद्धरः । जङ्घे पातु जगत्पूज्यः गुल्फौ पातु महाबलः ॥ १४ ॥
ōṣṭhadvayaṁ ca sēnānīḥ rasanāṁ śikhivāhanaḥ
Let the two ears be protected by the one who holds power; let the base of the ears be protected by the six-faced one.
पादौ पातु परञ्ज्योतिः सर्वाङ्गं कुक्कुटध्वजः । ऊर्ध्वं पातु महोदारः अधस्तात्पातु शाङ्करिः ॥ १५ ॥
tālū kalānidhiḥ pātu dantāṁ dēvaśikhāmaṇiḥ
The great commander, with the pair of cheeks, is the destroyer of the stars.
पार्श्वयोः पातु शत्रुघ्नः सर्वदा पातु शाश्वतः । प्रातः पातु परं ब्रह्म मध्याह्ने युद्धकौशलः ॥ १६ ॥
gāṅgēyaścubukaṁ pātu mukhaṁ pātu śarōdbhavaḥ
The two lips are the leaders of the army, and the tongue is the vehicle of the peacock.
अपराह्ने गुहः पातु रात्रौ दैत्यान्तकोऽवतु । त्रिसन्ध्यं तु त्रिकालज्ञः अन्तस्थं पात्वरिन्दमः ॥ १७ ॥
hanū harasutaḥ pātu kaṇṭhaṁ kāruṇyavāridhiḥ
May the treasure of artistic expression protect the teeth, the divine crest jewel.
बहिस्थितं पातु खढ्गी निषण्णं कृत्तिकासुतः । व्रजन्तं प्रथमाधीशः तिष्ठन्तं पातु पाशभृत् ॥ १८ ॥
skandhāvumāsutaḥ pātu bāhulēyō bhujadvayam
May the son of the Ganges protect the cheeks, and may the one born from the arrow protect the face.
शयने पातु मां शूरः मार्गे मां पातु शूरजित् । उग्रारण्ये वज्रधरः सदा रक्षतु मां वटुः ॥ १९ ॥
bāhū bhavēdbhavaḥ pātu stanau pātu mahōragaḥ
May Hanuman, the son of Shiva, protect the throat, the ocean of compassion.
फलशृतिः । सुब्रह्मण्यस्य कवचं धर्मकामार्थमोक्षदम् ।
madhyaṁ jagadvibhuḥ pātu nābhiṁ dvādaśalōcanaḥ
May the son of Uma protect the shoulders, the two arms of the mighty one.
मन्त्राणां परमं मन्त्रं रहस्यं सर्वदेहिनाम् ॥ २० ॥
kaṭiṁ dviṣaḍbhujaḥ pātu guhyaṁ gaṅgāsutō:'vatu
May the arms protect me, and may the great serpent protect the breasts.
सर्वरोगप्रशमनं सर्वव्याधिविनाशनम् ।
jaghanaṁ jāhnavīsūnuḥ pr̥ṣṭhabhāgaṁ parantapaḥ
May the all-pervading one protect the middle, and may the one with twelve eyes protect the navel.
सर्वपुण्यप्रदं दिव्यं सुभगैश्वर्यवर्धनम् ॥ २१ ॥
ūrū rakṣēdumāputraḥ jānuyugmaṁ jagaddharaḥ
May the one with six arms protect the waist, and may the son of the Ganges guard the secret.
सर्वत्र शुभदं नित्यं यः पठेद्वज्रपञ्जरम् ।
jaṅghē pātu jagatpūjyaḥ gulphau pātu mahābalaḥ
May the son of Jahnavi protect the lower back, and may the conqueror protect the back.
सुब्रह्मण्यः सुसम्प्रीतो वाञ्छितार्थान् प्रयच्छति । देहान्ते मुक्तिमाप्नोति स्कन्दवर्मानुभावतः ॥ २२ ॥
pādau pātu parañjyōtiḥ sarvāṅgaṁ kukkuṭadhvajaḥ
May the son of Uma protect the thighs, and may the one who upholds the world protect the knees.
इति स्कान्दे अगस्त्यनारदसंवादे सुब्रह्मण्य कवचम् । श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
ūrdhvaṁ pātu mahōdāraḥ adhastātpātu śāṅkariḥ
May the one who is worshipped by the world protect the shins, and may the mighty one protect the ankles.
Subrahmanya - सुब्रह्मण्य
pārśvayōḥ pātu śatrughnaḥ sarvadā pātu śāśvataḥ
May the feet be protected by the supreme light, and may the rooster-bannered one protect the entire body.
Guha Pancharatnam – गुह पञ्चरत्नम्
prātaḥ pātu paraṁ brahma madhyāhnē yuddhakauśalaḥ
May the noble one protect above, and may the one who is Shankara protect below.
Shadanana Stuti – षडानन स्तुतिः
aparāhnē guhaḥ pātu rātrau daityāntakō:'vatu
May the slayer of enemies protect the sides, and may the eternal one protect always.
