Vedasara Siva stotram
The Vedasara Siva Stotram is a hymn that encapsulates the essence of Lord Shiva as the embodiment of Vedic wisdom and knowledge.
पशूनां पतिं पापनाशं परेशं
paśūnāṁ patiṁ pāpanāśaṁ parēśaṁ gajēndrasya kr̥ttiṁ vasānaṁ varēṇyam
I bow to the Lord of all beings, the remover of sins, the supreme being.
गजेन्द्रस्य कृत्तिं वसानं वरेण्यम् ।
jaṭājūṭamadhyē sphuradgāṅgavāriṁ mahādēvamēkaṁ smarāmi smarārim
I remember the great deity, the one who resides in the midst of matted hair, shining like the Ganges.
जटाजूटमध्ये स्फुरद्गाङ्गवारिं
mahēśaṁ surēśaṁ surārātināśaṁ vibhuṁ viśvanāthaṁ vibhūtyaṅgabhūṣam
I remember the one and only great God, the enemy of desire, the Lord of the universe.
महादेवमेकं स्मरामि स्मरारिम् ॥ १ ॥
virūpākṣamindvarkavahnitrinētraṁ sadānandamīḍē prabhuṁ pañcavaktram
I remember the one who is adorned with the glory of the universe, the one with the deformed eyes, the one with the three eyes.
महेशं सुरेशं सुरारातिनाशं
girīśaṁ gaṇēśaṁ galē nīlavarṇaṁ gavēndrādhirūḍhaṁ guṇātītarūpam
I worship the Lord who is eternally blissful, the five-faced one.
विभुं विश्वनाथं विभूत्यङ्गभूषम् ।
bhavaṁ bhāsvaraṁ bhasmanā bhūṣitāṅgaṁ bhavānīkalatraṁ bhajē pañcavaktram
I remember the Lord of the mountains, the Lord of the multitudes, the one with a blue throat.
विरूपाक्षमिन्द्वर्कवह्नित्रिनेत्रं
śivākānta śambhō śaśāṅkārdhamaulē mahēśāna śūlin jaṭājūṭadhārin
I worship the one who is seated on the king of cows, who transcends all qualities.
सदानन्दमीडे प्रभुं पञ्चवक्त्रम् ॥ २ ॥
tvamēkō jagadvyāpakō viśvarūpaḥ prasīda prasīda prabhō pūrṇarūpa
I remember the radiant one, adorned with ashes, the one who is the consort of Bhavani.
गिरीशं गणेशं गले नीलवर्णं
parātmānamēkaṁ jagadbījamādyaṁ nirīhaṁ nirākāramōṅkāravēdyam
I worship the five-faced one, the beloved of Shiva, the one with the half-moon on his head.
गवेन्द्राधिरूढं गुणातीतरूपम् ।
yatō jāyatē pālyatē yēna viśvaṁ tamīśaṁ bhajē līyatē yatra viśvam
I remember the great Lord, the wielder of the trident, the one who bears matted hair.
भवं भास्वरं भस्मना भूषिताङ्गं
na bhūmirna cāpō na vahnirna vāyu- -rna cākāśamāstē na tandrā na nidrā
You alone are the all-pervading one, the universal form.
भवानीकलत्रं भजे पञ्चवक्त्रम् ॥ ३ ॥
na cōṣṇaṁ na śītaṁ na dēśō na vēṣō na yasyāsti mūrtistrimūrtiṁ tamīḍē
Be gracious, be gracious, O Lord, the one who is complete in form.
शिवाकान्त शम्भो शशाङ्कार्धमौले
ajaṁ śāśvataṁ kāraṇaṁ kāraṇānāṁ śivaṁ kēvalaṁ bhāsakaṁ bhāsakānām
I worship the supreme self, the original seed of the universe, the formless and the unmanifest.
महेशान शूलिन् जटाजूटधारिन् ।
turīyaṁ tamaḥpāramādyantahīnaṁ prapadyē paraṁ pāvanaṁ dvaitahīnam
From whom the universe is born, by whom it is sustained, I worship that Lord.
त्वमेको जगद्व्यापको विश्वरूपः
namastē namastē vibhō viśvamūrtē namastē namastē cidānandamūrtē
There is no earth, no water, no fire, no air, no sky, no sleep, no slumber.
प्रसीद प्रसीद प्रभो पूर्णरूप ॥ ४ ॥
namastē namastē tapōyōgagamya namastē namastē śrutijñānagamya
There is no heat, no cold, no place, no form, where the three forms do not exist.
परात्मानमेकं जगद्बीजमाद्यं
prabhō śūlapāṇē vibhō viśvanātha mahādēva śambhō mahēśa trinētra
I bow to the unborn, eternal cause of all causes.
निरीहं निराकारमोङ्कारवेद्यम् ।
śivākānta śānta smarārē purārē tvadanyō varēṇyō na mānyō na gaṇyaḥ
I bow to the one who is the sole light among all lights.
यतो जायते पाल्यते येन विश्वं
śambhō mahēśa karuṇāmaya śūlapāṇē gaurīpatē paśupatē paśupāśanāśin
I take refuge in the supreme, pure one, who is beyond duality.
तमीशं भजे लीयते यत्र विश्वम् ॥ ५ ॥
kāśīpatē karuṇayā jagadētadēka- -stvaṁ haṁsi pāsi vidadhāsi mahēśvarō:'si
Salutations to you, O Lord of the universe, the embodiment of all.
न भूमिर्न चापो न वह्निर्न वायु-
tvattō jagadbhavati dēva bhava smarārē tvayyēva tiṣṭhati jaganmr̥ḍa viśvanātha
Salutations to you, O embodiment of consciousness and bliss.
-र्न चाकाशमास्ते न तन्द्रा न निद्रा ।
tvayyēva gacchati layaṁ jagadētadīśa liṅgātmakē hara carācaraviśvarūpin

न चोष्णं न शीतं न देशो न वेषो
iti śrīmatparamahaṁsa parivrājakācārya śrīmacchaṅkarācārya viracitaṁ vēdasāra śiva stōtraṁ sampūrṇam
