The Ambastotram is a hymn dedicated to Goddess Durga, celebrating her strength and seeking her blessings for protection and empowerment.
का तवण शुभकरे सुखदुःखहसते ाघूरणितं भवजलं परबलोरमिभङगैः
kā tvaṇ śubhakare sukhaduḥkhahaste āghūrṇitaṃ bhavajalaṃ prabalormibhaṅgaiḥ
O Mother, who brings forth joy and sorrow, your grace is like a soothing balm, calming the turbulent waters of worldly existence.
शाणतिण विधातुमिह किं बहुधा विभगनाम मतः परयतनपरमासि सदैव विशवे
śāṇtiṇ vidhātumiha kiṃ bahudhā vibhagnām mataḥ prayatnaparamāsi sadaiva viśve
What can be said of your divine essence, which manifests in countless forms, ever present in the universe, guiding our every endeavor?
समपादयतयविरतण तवविरामवृ^िता या वै सथिता कृ^ितफलण तवकृ^ितसय नेत्री
sampādayatyavirataṇ tvavirāmavṛ^itā yā vai sthitā kṛ^itaphalaṇ tvakṛ^itasya netrī
You who bestow the fruits of our actions, remain steadfast in your grace, O compassionate one, the guiding light of our eyes.
सा मे भवतवनिदिनण वरदा भवानी जानामयहण धरुवमिदण धृ^ितकरमपाशा
sā me bhavatvanidinaṇ varadā bhavānī jānāmyahaṇ dhruvamidaṇ dhṛ^itakarmapāśā
You are my refuge, O Bhavani, the bestower of boons, I know you are the eternal strength, holding the rope of fate.
को वा धरमः किमकृ^ितण कवः कपाललेखः किणवादृ^िŚटण फलमिहासति हि याण विना भोः
ko vā dharmaḥ kimakṛ^itaṇ kvaḥ kapālalekhaḥ kiṇvādṛ^iŚṭaṇ phalamihāsti hi yāṇ vinā bhoḥ
Who can fathom the depths of righteousness, who can measure the deeds of the doer? Without your grace, O Mother, what fruit can one attain?
िछCहापाशैरनियमिता नियमाः सवतणत्रैः यसया नेत्री भवति सा शरणं ममादया
ichChāpāśairniyamitā niyamāḥ svataṇtraiḥ yasyā netrī bhavati sā śaraṇaṃ mamādyā
Bound by the ties of ignorance, I seek your refuge, O Mother, who grants liberation through your unwavering compassion.
सनतानयनति जलधिण जनिमृ^ितयुजालम समभावयनतयविकृ^ितण विकृ^ितण विभगनम
santānayanti jaladhiṇ janimṛ^ityujālam sambhāvayantyavikṛ^itaṇ vikṛ^itaṇ vibhagnam
You who nurture the universe, giving birth to life from the ocean of existence, may your divine presence restore harmony amidst chaos.
यसया विभूतय िहामितशकतिपालाः नाशरितय ताण वद कुत शरणण वरजामः
yasyā vibhūtaya ihāmitaśaktipālāḥ nāśritya tāṇ vada kuta śaraṇaṇ vrajāmaḥ
By your power, O Mother, the guardians of the world are sustained; without you, where can we find solace?
मित्रे रिपौ तवविŚमण तव पदमनेत्रम सवसथे दुःसथे तववितथण तव हसतपातः
mitre ripau tvaviŚamaṇ tava padmanetram svasthe duḥsthe tvavitathaṇ tava hastapātaḥ
In friendship or enmity, your gaze is ever upon us, O Mother, your smile brings both joy and relief in times of distress.
मृ^ितयुछCहाया तव दया तवमृ^ितञछ मातः मा मां मुञछनतु परमे शुभदृ^िŚटयसते
mṛ^ityuchChāyā tava dayā tvamṛ^itañcha mātaḥ mā māṃ muñchantu parame śubhadṛ^iŚṭayaste
O Mother, your mercy is my salvation; may your divine vision not forsake me, granting me the highest auspiciousness.
कवामबा सरवा कव गणनं मम हीनबुदधेः धततुण दोरभयामिव मतिरजगदेकधात्रीम
kvāmbā sarvā kva gaṇanaṃ mama hīnabuddheḥ dhattuṇ dorbhyāmiva matirjagadekadhātrīm
O Mother of all, in my ignorance, I seek your guidance; may my mind, like a wandering child, find its way back to you.
शरीसञछिनतयण सुछरणमभयपतिŚठम सेवासारैरभिनुतण शरणं परपदये
śrīsañchintyaṇ sucharaṇamabhayapatiŚṭham sevāsārairabhinutaṇ śaraṇaṃ prapadye
With your pure feet, you protect those who serve you; I surrender myself at your lotus feet, seeking your divine shelter.
या मामा जनम विनयतयतिदुःखमारगैः ासणसिदधेः सवकलितैरलललितैरविलासैः
yā māmā janma vinayatyatiduḥkhamārgaiḥ āsaṇsiddheḥ svakalitairllalitairvilāsaiḥ
You who alleviate the sufferings of the world, may your grace adorn my life with beauty and joy, like a blossoming flower.
या मे बुदधिण सुविदधे सततण धरणयम सामबा सरवा मम गतिः सफले फले वा
yā me buddhiṇ suvidadhe satataṇ dharaṇyam sāmbā sarvā mama gatiḥ saphale phale vā
You are the wisdom that guides my path; may I find success in all my endeavors through your benevolent grace.
िति मबासतोत्रं समपूरणम
iti ambāstotraṃ sampūrṇam
Thus concludes the Ambastotram, a complete offering of devotion.
