Sri Dandayudhapani Ashtakam
The Sri Dandayudhapani Ashtakam extols the virtues of Lord Dandayudhapani, seeking his blessings for protection and success.
श्री सुब्रह्मण्य स्तोत्राणि
yaḥ pūrvaṁ śivaśaktināmakagiridvandvē hiḍimbāsurē- -ṇānītē phalinīsthalāntaragatē kaumāravēṣōjjvalaḥ
O Lord Subrahmanya, who is the embodiment of the power of Shiva, you have appeared in the form of a brilliant youth, having been brought forth from the mountain of the demon Hidimba.
यः पूर्वं शिवशक्तिनामकगिरिद्वन्द्वे हिडिम्बासुरे-
āvirbhūya ghaṭōdbhavāya munayē bhūyō varān prādiśat śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām
May you, who are full of compassion, protect me from all dangers.
-णानीते फलिनीस्थलान्तरगते कौमारवेषोज्ज्वलः । आविर्भूय घटोद्भवाय मुनये भूयो वरान् प्रादिशत्
śrīmatpuṣyarathōtsavē:'nnamadhudugdhādyaiḥ padārthōttamaiḥ nānādēśasamāgatairagaṇitairyaḥ kāvaḍīsambhr̥taiḥ
In the festival of the divine chariot, you bestow the finest substances like honey and milk to those who have gathered from various regions, showering them with blessings.
श्रीदण्डायुधपाणिरात्तकरुणः पायादपायात्स माम् ॥ १ ॥
bhaktaughairabhiṣēcitō bahuvarāṁstēbhyō dadātyādarāt śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyatsa mām
O Lord Subrahmanya, who is the embodiment of compassion, protect me from all dangers.
श्रीमत्पुष्यरथोत्सवेऽन्नमधुदुग्धाद्यैः पदार्थोत्तमैः
nānādigbhya upāgatā nijamahāvēśānvitāḥ sundarīḥ tāsāmētya niśāsu yaḥ sumaśarānandānubhūticchalāt
Beautiful maidens, endowed with divine qualities, come to you, and in the nights, they experience the bliss of your presence, just as the gopis experience the joy of their Lord Krishna.
नानादेशसमागतैरगणितैर्यः कावडीसम्भृतैः । भक्तौघैरभिषेचितो बहुवरांस्तेभ्यो ददात्यादरात्
gōpīnāṁ yadunāthavannijaparānandaṁ tanōti sphuṭaṁ śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām
O Lord Subrahmanya, who is the embodiment of compassion, protect me from all dangers.
श्रीदण्डायुधपाणिरात्तकरुणः पायादपायत्स माम् ॥ २ ॥
duṣṭānāmiha bhūtabhāvibhavatāṁ durmārgasañcāriṇāṁ kaṣṭāhaṅkr̥tijanyakilbiṣavaśācchiṣṭapravidhvaṁsinām
Those who wander down the wrong paths, afflicted by their own actions, are purified by your teachings, as you wield the staff known as the Danda.
नानादिग्भ्य उपागता निजमहावेशान्विताः सुन्दरीः
śikṣārthaṁ nijapāṇinōdvahati yō daṇḍābhidhānāyudhaṁ śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām
O Lord Subrahmanya, who is the embodiment of compassion, protect me from all dangers.
तासामेत्य निशासु यः सुमशरानन्दानुभूतिच्छलात् । गोपीनां यदुनाथवन्निजपरानन्दं तनोति स्फुटं
pūrvaṁ tārakasañjñakaṁ ditisutaṁ yaḥ śūrapadmāsuraṁ siṁhāsyaṁ ca nihatya vāsavamukhān dēvān jugōpākhilān
You vanquished the demon Tarakasura, the son of Diti, and defeated the gods led by Indra, along with the lion-faced demon.
श्रीदण्डायुधपाणिरात्तकरुणः पायादपायात्स माम् ॥ ३ ॥
śrīvallyā sahitaśca nistulayaśāḥ śrīdēvasēnyā yutaḥ śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām
Accompanied by the divine goddess, you shine with unparalleled glory, surrounded by the army of the divine.
दुष्टानामिह भूतभाविभवतां दुर्मार्गसञ्चारिणां
yasyāṅgasthitarōmakūpanikarē brahmāṇḍakōṭicchaṭāḥ saudhāgrasthagavākṣarandhravicaratpīlūpamā ēva tāḥ

कष्टाहङ्कृतिजन्यकिल्बिषवशाच्छिष्टप्रविध्वंसिनाम् । शिक्षार्थं निजपाणिनोद्वहति यो दण्डाभिधानायुधं
lakṣyantē yamidr̥gbhirātmani tathābhūtasvaviśvākr̥tiḥ śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām
The countless universes reside within your body, and the cosmic egg is but a small part of you.
श्रीदण्डायुधपाणिरात्तकरुणः पायादपायात्स माम् ॥ ४ ॥
sadyōjātamukhaiśca pañcavadanaiḥ śambhōḥ sahaikaṁ mukhaṁ pārvatyā militaṁ vibhāti satataṁ yadvaktraṣaṭkātmanā
Your form is perceived by the wise as a vast expanse, and you are the essence of all that exists.
पूर्वं तारकसञ्ज्ञकं दितिसुतं यः शूरपद्मासुरं
tattādr̥k cchivaśaktyabhēdaviṣayavyaktyujjvalāṅgaṁ vahan śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām

सिंहास्यं च निहत्य वासवमुखान् देवान् जुगोपाखिलान् । श्रीवल्ल्या सहितश्च निस्तुलयशाः श्रीदेवसेन्या युतः
satyaṁ jñānamanantamadvayamiti śrutyantavākyōditaṁ yadbrahmāsti tadēva yasya ca vibhōrmūrtēḥ svarūpaṁ viduḥ
You manifest with the five faces of Lord Shiva and the one face of Parvati, shining eternally with the six aspects of consciousness.
श्रीदण्डायुधपाणिरात्तकरुणः पायादपायात्स माम् ॥ ५ ॥
yōgīndrā vimalāśayā hr̥di nijānandānubhūtyunnatāḥ śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇirāttakaruṇaḥ pāyādapāyātsa mām
You carry the radiant form that embodies the distinction of Shiva and Shakti.
यस्याङ्गस्थितरोमकूपनिकरे ब्रह्माण्डकोटिच्छटाः
idaṁ śrīphalinīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇyaṣṭakastavam

सौधाग्रस्थगवाक्षरन्ध्रविचरत्पीलूपमा एव ताः । लक्ष्यन्ते यमिदृग्भिरात्मनि तथाभूतस्वविश्वाकृतिः
paṭhatāmāśu siddhyanti nikhilāśca manōrathāḥ
Indeed, the scriptures declare that the ultimate truth is the non-dual knowledge that is infinite.
श्रीदण्डायुधपाणिरात्तकरुणः पायादपायात्स माम् ॥ ६ ॥
iti śrīdaṇḍāyudhapāṇyaṣṭakam
That which is Brahman is the very essence of the divine, and those who know this understand the true nature of the Supreme Being.
