Sri Dhumavathi Hrudayam

This is the great mantra of the Shri Dhūmāvatī Hridaya Stotra, composed by the sage Pippalāda, in the Anuṣṭup meter, dedicated to the goddess Shri Dhūmāvatī, with the seed mantra Dhūṁ, the power Hṛīṁ, the key Klīṁ, intended for the destruction of all enemies.

Hand gestures (Karanyāsa):

Om, I bow to the seed mantra Dhāṁ with my thumbs.

Om, I bow to the seed mantra Dhīṁ with my index fingers.

Om, I bow to the seed mantra Dhūṁ with my middle fingers.

Om, I bow to the seed mantra Dhaiṁ with my ring fingers.

Om, I bow to the seed mantra Dhauṁ with my little fingers.

Om, I bow to the seed mantra Dhaḥ with the palms of my hands.

Body gestures (Aṅganyāsa):

Om, I offer the seed mantra Dhāṁ to my heart.

Om, I offer the seed mantra Dhīṁ to my head, Svāhā.

Om, I offer the seed mantra Dhūṁ to my crown, Vaṣaṭ.

Om, I offer the seed mantra Dhaiṁ to my armor, Huṁ.

Om, I offer the seed mantra Dhauṁ to my three eyes, Vauṣaṭ.

Om, I offer the seed mantra Dhaḥ to my weapon, Phaṭ.

Meditation (Dhyānam):

I meditate on the one with a smoky hue, dressed in smoky garments, displaying a terrifying set of teeth, adorned with a necklace of pearls, seated on a crow, with a pair of white hands, and having a rough appearance.

Desiring a body that is crooked and dark, resembling a cloud, I meditate on the one who is fierce and has a terrifying face.

In the beginning of creation, she is the one who destroys the demons Madhu and Kaitabha; at the end of the cycle, I worship Dhūmāvatī, the essence of all three worlds.

She is the abode of virtues, the one who is attainable through qualities, and the one who increases the virtues of others; I worship Dhūmāvatī, the one who is known by those who understand the essence of the Vedas.

Holding a staff and having a fierce appearance, she is the protector of the wicked; I worship Dhūmāvatī, who also protects the farmer.

With a terrifying gaze and a loud voice, she is the destroyer of those who cause death; I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is fierce.

She who devours the flesh of the fierce and terrible, the goddess who laughs with a terrifying roar, I worship Dhūmāvatī.

With a severed neck and hidden wounds, she embodies the form of Chinnamasta; I worship Dhūmāvatī, the one who cuts down the wicked.

She is the one who fulfills the wishes of Jatayu and destroys the demons; I worship Dhūmāvatī, the one who brings about their downfall.

I worship the one who is smoky in form, who is roaring and has many sounds,

The one who creates a jingling sound, who is a source of clamor and noise.

I worship the goddess who pulls with great force, Dhūmāvatī.

I bow to the one who is combined with the banner of the elephant, who creates the sound of a bow.

I bow to Dhūmāvatī, who is fierce and has a terrifying presence.

I worship the one who is pleasing to the mind, who embodies the essence of mantras.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is delighted by the sound of the drum.

I worship the one adorned by a multitude of dakinis, who is satisfied with their offerings.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is pleased by the sound of the drum and grants success.

I worship the one who is the essence of truth, who is the savior from the ocean of existence.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who embodies the essence of the stars.

I worship the one who takes the form of mantras, who is the essence of all sounds.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is the essence of all letters and sounds.

I bow to the goddess Durga, who takes the form of a fierce protector,

the slayer of wicked demons, the destroyer of the asuras created by the gods.

I worship the one who dispels the darkness,

the bearer of the liberated, the radiant one of the smoke.

I adore the wise one, the dancer who delights in dance,

the one who is revered by men, I bow to the goddess of smoke.

I honor the one who is worshiped by the lord of the mountains,

the one who resides atop the mountains, I bow to the goddess of smoke.

I revere the one who takes the form of a lotus,

the one who is worshiped with lotuses, I bow to the goddess of smoke.

I worship the one who breathes with a sound like a burst,

the one who grants the results of the sacred mantras, I serve the goddess of smoke.

I honor the one who is worshiped with offerings,

the one who is revered by the strong, the one who takes the form of a goddess.

I bow to the one who is revered by Brahma and others,

the goddess of knowledge, I bow to the goddess of smoke.

I worship the magnificent one, the one who is revered by the world,

the one who embodies the lord of the universe, I adore the goddess of smoke.

I serve the goddess who grants devotion to her devotees,

I worship the goddess of smoke.

I honor the one who is the embodiment of illusion,

the one who is sweet, the one who is respected, adorned with the flag of the makara.

I consider myself to be Dhūmāvatī, who delights in the taste of fish and meat.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is served by yoginis and is pleased by the offerings of yoga and sacrifice.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who grants the fruits of sacrifices and is the mother of Yaśodā.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is revered by Rāma and is the destroyer of Rāvaṇa.

I take refuge in Dhūmāvatī, who is adored by Rameśa and is beautiful.

I bow to Dhūmāvatī, who is the embodiment of playful arts and is revered by the world.

I bow to Dhūmāvatī, who is adorned with a bountiful seed bank.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is honored by the bakas and is devoted to meditation on them.

I bow to Dhūmāvatī, who is the evening goddess of the young and is the remover of darkness.

I take refuge in Dhūmāvatī, who is the consort of Śankara and the life of Śankara.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who destroys obstacles and is pure.

I take refuge in Dhūmāvatī, who is the slayer of the six-faced enemy and embodies the sixteen forms.

I worship Dhūmāvatī, who is the giver of the six tastes and is the moon-like.

I take refuge in Dhūmāvatī, who is worshipped by the gods and grants happiness to the divine.

I serve Dhūmāvatī, who is surrounded by beautiful beings.

I serve the mother of Ganesha, who is worthy and playful,

The one who steals away the assembly of enemies, I serve the great Dhumavati.

I serve the one residing by the milk ocean, who is delighted by the drinking of milk,

I serve the great Dhumavati, who has lotus-like feet worshipped in an instant.

With the names of the thirty-two colors,

This hymn of the heart has been composed, granting great success from Dhumavati.

Whoever recites this pure hymn, which destroys sins,

Attains the supreme accomplishment by the grace of Dhumavati.

One who reads with focused mind, whatever a person desires,

That person attains everything; truly, I say.

Thus is the heart of Dhumavati.
