gr̥tsamada uvāca
The great sage Gr̥tsamada spoke:
गृत्समद उवाच ।
madāsuraṁ suśāntaṁ vai dr̥ṣṭvā viṣṇumukhāḥ surāḥ
Seeing the tranquil Madāsura, the gods with Vishnu's face,
bhr̥gvādayaśca yōgīndrā ēkadantaṁ samāyayuḥ
Along with the yogic sages like Bhr̥gu, approached the one with a single tusk.
praṇamya taṁ prapūjyā:':'dau punastē nēmurādarāt
Bowing to him, they honored him, and then, with reverence,
tuṣṭuvurharṣasamyuktā ēkadantaṁ gajānanam
They praised the one with a single tusk, the one with the elephant face, filled with joy.
dēvarṣaya ūcuḥ
The divine sages spoke:

We take refuge in the one with a single tusk,

The one who resides in the heart, illuminating it,

We take refuge in the one who, through his own reflection,

Delights in the various forms of nature and illusion,

We take refuge in that one-tusked Lord, who is the original, the unborn, and the one who is the threefold state.
vibhinnajāgranmayamapramēyaṁ tamēkadantaṁ śaraṇaṁ vrajāmaḥ
Then, by your command, the world was created, which is known as deep sleep,

tvadājñayā saṁharakō harō vai tamēkadantaṁ śaraṇaṁ vrajāmaḥ
and it took the form of success, which is twofold.

distinct and immeasurable. We take refuge in that one-tusked Lord.

That very waking state is manifested,
