Sri Ganesha Avatara Stotram
The stotra discusses the different avatars of Ganesha, seeking his blessings for knowledge and guidance.
श्री गणेश स्तोत्राणि
aṅgirasa uvāca
The treasure of hymns → Hymns of Lord Ganesha → The hymn of the incarnation of Lord Ganesha
अङ्गिरस उवाच ।
anantā avatārāśca gaṇēśasya mahātmanaḥ
Angirasa spoke
अनन्ता अवताराश्च गणेशस्य महात्मनः । न शक्यते कथां वक्तुं मया वर्षशतैरपि ॥ १ ॥
na śakyatē kathāṁ vaktuṁ mayā varṣaśatairapi
The countless incarnations of the great soul Ganesha
सङ्क्षेपेण प्रवक्ष्यामि मुख्यानां मुख्यतां गतान् । अवतारांश्च तस्याष्टौ विख्यातान् ब्रह्मधारकान् ॥ २ ॥
saṅkṣēpēṇa pravakṣyāmi mukhyānāṁ mukhyatāṁ gatān
I cannot describe even a single story, even after a hundred years
वक्रतुण्डावतारश्च देहिनां ब्रह्मधारकः । मत्सुरासुरहन्ता स सिंहवाहनगः स्मृतः ॥ ३ ॥
avatārāṁśca tasyāṣṭau vikhyātān brahmadhārakān
In brief, I will speak of the main ones that have attained prominence
एकदन्तावतारो वै देहिनां ब्रह्मधारकः । मदासुरस्य हन्ता स आखुवाहनगः स्मृतः ॥ ४ ॥
vakratuṇḍāvatāraśca dēhināṁ brahmadhārakaḥ
And the eight renowned incarnations of him who holds the Brahman
महोदर इति ख्यातो ज्ञानब्रह्मप्रकाशकः । मोहासुरस्य शत्रुर्वै आखुवाहनगः स्मृतः ॥ ५ ॥
matsurāsurahantā sa siṁhavāhanagaḥ smr̥taḥ
The incarnation of Vakratunda is the holder of Brahman among beings
गजाननः स विज्ञेयः साङ्ख्येभ्यः सिद्धिदायकः । लोभासुरप्रहर्ता च मूषकगः प्रकीर्तितः ॥ ६ ॥
ēkadantāvatārō vai dēhināṁ brahmadhārakaḥ
The slayer of the demon Matsura is remembered as the lion-rider
लम्बोदरावतारो वै क्रोधासुरनिबर्हणः । आखुगः शक्तिब्रह्मा सन् तस्य धारक उच्यते ॥ ७ ॥
madāsurasya hantā sa ākhuvāhanagaḥ smr̥taḥ
The incarnation of Ekadanta is indeed the holder of Brahman among beings
विकटो नाम विख्यातः कामासुरप्रदाहकः । मयूरवाहनश्चायं सौरमात्मधरः स्मृतः ॥ ८ ॥
mahōdara iti khyātō jñānabrahmaprakāśakaḥ
The slayer of the demon Madāsura is remembered as the rat-rider
विघ्नराजावतारश्च शेषवाहन उच्यते । ममासुरप्रहन्ता स विष्णुब्रह्मेति वाचकः ॥ ९ ॥
mōhāsurasya śatrurvai ākhuvāhanagaḥ smr̥taḥ
Known as Mahodara, he illuminates the knowledge of Brahman
धूम्रवर्णावतारश्चाभिमानासुरनाशकः । आखुवाहनतां प्राप्तः शिवात्मकः स उच्यते ॥ १० ॥
gajānanaḥ sa vijñēyaḥ sāṅkhyēbhyaḥ siddhidāyakaḥ
The enemy of the demon Mohasura is remembered as the rat-rider
एतेऽष्टौ ते मया प्रोक्ता गणेशांशा विनायकाः । एषां भजनमात्रेण स्वस्वब्रह्मप्रधारकाः ॥ ११ ॥
lōbhāsuraprahartā ca mūṣakagaḥ prakīrtitaḥ
The one with the elephant face is to be known as the grantor of success among the Sāṅkhya
स्वानन्दवासकारी स गणेशानः प्रकथ्यते । स्वानन्दे योगिभिर्दृष्टो ब्रह्मणि नात्र संशयः ॥ १२ ॥
lambōdarāvatārō vai krōdhāsuranibarhaṇaḥ
The destroyer of the demon Lobhāsura is indeed known as the mouse-rider
तस्यावताररूपाश्चाष्टौ विघ्नहरणाः स्मृताः । स्वानन्दभजनेनैव लीलास्तत्र भवन्ति हि ॥ १३ ॥
ākhugaḥ śaktibrahmā san tasya dhāraka ucyatē
The incarnation of Lambodara is the vanquisher of the demon of anger
माया तत्र स्वयं लीना भविष्यति सुपुत्रक । सम्योगे मौनभावश्च समाधिः प्राप्यते जनैः ॥ १४ ॥
vikaṭō nāma vikhyātaḥ kāmāsurapradāhakaḥ
The one who rides the mouse is said to be the holder of power and Brahman
अयोगे गणराजस्य भजने नैव सिद्ध्यति । मायाभेदमयं ब्रह्म निर्वृत्तिः प्राप्यते परा ॥ १५ ॥
mayūravāhanaścāyaṁ sauramātmadharaḥ smr̥taḥ
The fierce one, known as Vikaṭa, renowned as the destroyer of desires,
योगात्मकगणेशानो ब्रह्मणस्पतिवाचकः । तत्र शान्तिः समाख्याता योगरूपा जनैः कृता ॥ १६ ॥
vighnarājāvatāraśca śēṣavāhana ucyatē
This one, who rides a peacock, is remembered as the essence of the sun.
नानाशान्तिप्रमोदश्च स्थाने स्थाने प्रकथ्यते । शान्तीनां शान्तिरूपा सा योगशान्तिः प्रकीर्तिता ॥ १७ ॥
mamāsuraprahantā sa viṣṇubrahmēti vācakaḥ
He is called the incarnation of the king of obstacles, the one who rides the serpent.
योगस्य योगतादृष्टा सर्वब्रह्म सुपुत्रक । न योगात्परमं ब्रह्म ब्रह्मभूतेन लभ्यते ॥ १८ ॥
dhūmravarṇāvatāraścābhimānāsuranāśakaḥ
He, the destroyer of demons, is referred to as Vishnu and Brahma.
एतदेव परं गुह्यं कथितं वत्स तेऽलिखम् । भज त्वं सर्वभावेन गणेशं ब्रह्मनायकम् ॥ १९ ॥
ākhuvāhanatāṁ prāptaḥ śivātmakaḥ sa ucyatē
The one who appears in a smoky form is known as the destroyer of prideful demons.
पुत्रपौत्रादिप्रदं स्तोत्रमिदं शोकविनाशनम् । धनधान्यसमृद्ध्यादिप्रदं भावि न संशयः ॥ २० ॥
ētē:'ṣṭau tē mayā prōktā gaṇēśāṁśā vināyakāḥ
Having attained the form of a serpent, he is called the essence of Shiva.
धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाणां साधनं ब्रह्मदायकम् । भक्तिदृढकरं चैव भविष्यति न संशयः ॥ २१ ॥
ēṣāṁ bhajanamātrēṇa svasvabrahmapradhārakāḥ
These eight have been spoken by me, the Vinayakas, the aspects of Ganesha.
इति श्रीमुद्गलपुराणे गणेशावतारस्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम् । श्री गणेश स्तोत्राणि
svānandavāsakārī sa gaṇēśānaḥ prakathyatē
By merely worshipping them, they uphold their own divine essence.
Ganesha - गणेश
svānandē yōgibhirdr̥ṣṭō brahmaṇi nātra saṁśayaḥ
The one who brings bliss is known as Ganesha,
Karthaveeryarjuna Stotram – कार्तवीर्यार्जुन स्तोत्रम्
tasyāvatārarūpāścāṣṭau vighnaharaṇāḥ smr̥tāḥ
In the bliss of the yogis, there is no doubt about the ultimate reality.
Sri Jagannatha Panchakam – श्री जगन्नाथ पञ्चकम्
svānandabhajanēnaiva līlāstatra bhavanti hi
The eight forms of the incarnations that remove obstacles are remembered.
