gauryuvāca
O Devi, this fickle demon, even in childhood, causes destruction.
गौर्युवाच ।
ēṣō:'ticapalō daityānbālyē:'pi nāśayatyahō
What action should I take? The best of sages does not know.
एषोऽतिचपलो दैत्यान्बाल्येऽपि नाशयत्यहो । अग्रे किं कर्म कर्तेति न जाने मुनिसत्तम ॥ १ ॥
agrē kiṁ karma kartēti na jānē munisattama
The demons are variously wicked, and they are indeed the enemies of the good and the gods.
दैत्या नानाविधा दुष्टाः साधुदेवद्रुहः खलाः । अतोऽस्य कण्ठे किञ्चित्त्वं रक्षार्थं बद्धुमर्हसि ॥ २ ॥
daityā nānāvidhā duṣṭāḥ sādhudēvadruhaḥ khalāḥ
Therefore, you should bind something around your neck for protection.
मुनिरुवाच । ध्यायेत्सिंहगतं विनायकममुं दिग्बाहुमाद्ये युगे
atō:'sya kaṇṭhē kiñcittvaṁ rakṣārthaṁ baddhumarhasi
The sage said:
त्रेतायां तु मयूरवाहनममुं षड्बाहुकं सिद्धिदम् । द्वापारे तु गजाननं युगभुजं रक्ताङ्गरागं विभुं

I meditate on the lion-faced Vinayaka, who has arms in all directions, in this age.
तुर्ये तु द्विभुजं सिताङ्गरुचिरं सर्वार्थदं सर्वदा ॥ ३ ॥
dhyāyētsiṁhagataṁ vināyakamamuṁ digbāhumādyē yugē trētāyāṁ tu mayūravāhanamamuṁ ṣaḍbāhukaṁ siddhidam
In the Treta age, I meditate on the peacock-riding one, who has six arms and grants success.
विनायकः शिखां पातु परमात्मा परात्परः ।
dvāpārē tu gajānanaṁ yugabhujaṁ raktāṅgarāgaṁ vibhuṁ turyē tu dvibhujaṁ sitāṅgaruciraṁ sarvārthadaṁ sarvadā
In the Dvapara age, I meditate on the elephant-faced one, who bears the burden of the ages, and is resplendent in red.
अतिसुन्दरकायस्तु मस्तकं सुमहोत्कटः ॥ ४ ॥
vināyakaḥ śikhāṁ pātu paramātmā parātparaḥ
In the Turiya age, I meditate on the two-armed one, whose body is white and beautiful, who grants all desires, always.
ललाटं कश्यपः पातु भ्रूयुगं तु महोदरः ।
atisundarakāyastu mastakaṁ sumahōtkaṭaḥ
May Vinayaka, the Supreme Soul, the highest of the high, protect my crown.
नयने फालचन्द्रस्तु गजास्यस्त्वोष्ठपल्लवौ ॥ ५ ॥
lalāṭaṁ kaśyapaḥ pātu bhrūyugaṁ tu mahōdaraḥ
He is extremely beautiful, and his head is very exalted.
जिह्वां पातु गणक्रीडश्चिबुकं गिरिजासुतः ।
nayanē phālacandrastu gajāsyastvōṣṭhapallavau
May Kashyapa protect my forehead, and the great belly protect my eyebrows.
वाचं विनायकः पातु दन्तान् रक्षतु दुर्मुखः ॥ ६ ॥
jihvāṁ pātu gaṇakrīḍaścibukaṁ girijāsutaḥ
May the moon-like one protect my eyes, and may the elephant-faced one protect my lips.
श्रवणौ पाशपाणिस्तु नासिकां चिन्तितार्थदः ।
vācaṁ vināyakaḥ pātu dantān rakṣatu durmukhaḥ
May Ganakrida protect my tongue, and may Girija's son protect my cheeks.
गणेशस्तु मुखं कण्ठं पातु देवो गणञ्जयः ॥ ७ ॥
śravaṇau pāśapāṇistu nāsikāṁ cintitārthadaḥ
May Vinayaka protect my speech, and may the fierce-faced one protect my teeth.
स्कन्धौ पातु गजस्कन्धः स्तनौ विघ्नविनाशनः ।
gaṇēśastu mukhaṁ kaṇṭhaṁ pātu dēvō gaṇañjayaḥ
May the one with the noose protect my ears, and may he grant the desired results through my nose.
हृदयं गणनाथस्तु हेरम्बो जठरं महान् ॥ ८ ॥
skandhau pātu gajaskandhaḥ stanau vighnavināśanaḥ
May Ganesha protect the face and throat, and may the divine Gananjaya safeguard them.
धराधरः पातु पार्श्वौ पृष्ठं विघ्नहरः शुभः ।
hr̥dayaṁ gaṇanāthastu hērambō jaṭharaṁ mahān
May Gajaskandha protect the shoulders, and may Vighnavinashana guard the breasts.
लिङ्गं गुह्यं सदा पातु वक्रतुण्डो महाबलः ॥ ९ ॥
dharādharaḥ pātu pārśvau pr̥ṣṭhaṁ vighnaharaḥ śubhaḥ
May Ganapati protect the heart, and may the great Heramba safeguard the belly.
गणक्रीडो जानुजङ्घे ऊरू मङ्गलमूर्तिमान् ।
liṅgaṁ guhyaṁ sadā pātu vakratuṇḍō mahābalaḥ
May Dharadhara protect the sides, and may the auspicious Vighnahara guard the back.
एकदन्तो महाबुद्धिः पादौ गुल्फौ सदाऽवतु ॥ १० ॥
gaṇakrīḍō jānujaṅghē ūrū maṅgalamūrtimān
May the mighty Vakratunda always protect the secret linga.
क्षिप्रप्रसादनो बाहू पाणी आशाप्रपूरकः ।
ēkadantō mahābuddhiḥ pādau gulphau sadā:'vatu
May Ganakrida bless the knees and thighs with auspiciousness.
अङ्गुलीश्च नखान्पातु पद्महस्तोऽरिनाशनः ॥ ११ ॥
kṣipraprasādanō bāhū pāṇī āśāprapūrakaḥ
May Ekadanta, the great intellect, always protect the feet and ankles.
सर्वाङ्गानि मयूरेशो विश्वव्यापी सदाऽवतु ।
aṅgulīśca nakhānpātu padmahastō:'rināśanaḥ
May the swift bestower of grace protect the arms, and may the fulfilling hand guard the palms.
अनुक्तमपि यत्स्थानं धूमकेतुः सदाऽवतु ॥ १२ ॥
sarvāṅgāni mayūrēśō viśvavyāpī sadā:'vatu
May the fingers and nails be protected by Padmahasta, the remover of sins.
आमोदस्त्वग्रतः पातु प्रमोदः पृष्ठतोऽवतु ।
anuktamapi yatsthānaṁ dhūmakētuḥ sadā:'vatu
May Mayuresha protect all limbs, and may the all-pervading one always guard them.
प्राच्यां रक्षतु बुद्धीश आग्नेय्यां सिद्धिदायकः ॥ १३ ॥
āmōdastvagrataḥ pātu pramōdaḥ pr̥ṣṭhatō:'vatu
May the place that is not spoken of always be protected by Dhūmaketu.
दक्षिणस्यामुमापुत्रो नैरृत्यां तु गणेश्वरः ।
prācyāṁ rakṣatu buddhīśa āgnēyyāṁ siddhidāyakaḥ
May Amoda protect from the front, and may Pramoda guard from the back.
प्रतीच्यां विघ्नहर्ताऽव्याद्वायव्यां गजकर्णकः ॥ १४ ॥
dakṣiṇasyāmumāputrō nairr̥tyāṁ tu gaṇēśvaraḥ
May Buddhiśa protect from the east, and may the giver of success be in the south.
कौबेर्यां निधिपः पायादीशान्यामीशनन्दनः ।
pratīcyāṁ vighnahartā:'vyādvāyavyāṁ gajakarṇakaḥ
May the son of Umā guard the south, and may Ganeshvara protect the southwest.
दिवाऽव्यादेकदन्तस्तु रात्रौ सन्ध्यासु विघ्नहृत् ॥ १५ ॥
kaubēryāṁ nidhipaḥ pāyādīśānyāmīśanandanaḥ
May Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles, guard from the west, and may Gajakarṇaka protect from the northwest.
राक्षसासुरभेतालग्रहभूतपिशाचतः ।
divā:'vyādēkadantastu rātrau sandhyāsu vighnahr̥t
May the lord of wealth, Kubera, protect us, as well as the son of the Lord, Ishana, during the day and the one with a single tusk at night, during the twilight hours, from obstacles.
पाशाङ्कुशधरः पातु रजःसत्त्वतमः स्मृतीः ॥ १६ ॥
rākṣasāsurabhētālagrahabhūtapiśācataḥ
From the fear of demons, asuras, and spirits, may the one who holds the noose and goad protect us, along with the essence of rajas and sattva.
ज्ञानं धर्मं च लक्ष्मीं च लज्जां कीर्तिं तथा कुलम् ।
pāśāṅkuśadharaḥ pātu rajaḥsattvatamaḥ smr̥tīḥ
May knowledge, righteousness, prosperity, modesty, fame, and family, as well as wealth, grains, homes, spouses, children, and friends be safeguarded.
वपुर्धनं च धान्यं च गृहान्दारान्सुतान्सखीन् ॥ १७ ॥
jñānaṁ dharmaṁ ca lakṣmīṁ ca lajjāṁ kīrtiṁ tathā kulam
May the one who holds all weapons, the lord of peacocks, protect our descendants always.
सर्वायुधधरः पौत्रान्मयूरेशोऽवतात्सदा ।
vapurdhanaṁ ca dhānyaṁ ca gr̥hāndārānsutānsakhīn
May Kapila and the mighty elephant and horse protect us.
कपिलोऽजाविकं पातु गजाश्वान्विकटोऽवतु ॥ १८ ॥
sarvāyudhadharaḥ pautrānmayūrēśō:'vatātsadā
The wise who writes this on a birch leaf and wears it around the neck will have no fear from yakshas, rakshasas, or spirits.
भूर्जपत्रे लिखित्वेदं यः कण्ठे धारयेत्सुधीः ।
kapilō:'jāvikaṁ pātu gajāśvānvikaṭō:'vatu
One who chants this three times will attain the essence of the thunderbolt.
न भयं जायते तस्य यक्षरक्षःपिशाचतः ॥ १८ ॥
bhūrjapatrē likhitvēdaṁ yaḥ kaṇṭhē dhārayētsudhīḥ
One who reads this at the time of travel will obtain results without obstacles.
त्रिसन्ध्यं जपते यस्तु वज्रसारतनुर्भवेत् ।
na bhayaṁ jāyatē tasya yakṣarakṣaḥpiśācataḥ
One who reads this during battle will surely achieve victory.
यात्राकाले पठेद्यस्तु निर्विघ्नेन फलं लभेत् ॥ २० ॥
trisandhyaṁ japatē yastu vajrasāratanurbhavēt
In the actions of killing, lifting, attracting, and enchanting, if one chants this seven times, they will attain the twenty-one names of that day.
युद्धकाले पठेद्यस्तु विजयं चाप्नुयाद्ध्रुवम् ।
yātrākālē paṭhēdyastu nirvighnēna phalaṁ labhēt
The practitioner undoubtedly attains the desired fruit.
मारणोच्चाटनाकर्षस्तम्भमोहनकर्मणि ॥ २१ ॥
yuddhakālē paṭhēdyastu vijayaṁ cāpnuyāddhruvam
One who recites it twenty-one times daily,
सप्तवारं जपेदेतद्दिनानामेकविंशतिः ।
māraṇōccāṭanākarṣastambhamōhanakarmaṇi
Immediately frees himself from the king's punishment,
तत्तत्फलमवाप्नोति साधको नात्र संशयः ॥ २२ ॥
saptavāraṁ japēdētaddinānāmēkaviṁśatiḥ
If recited thrice at the time of royal audience.
एकविंशतिवारं च पठेत्तावद्दिनानि यः ।
tattatphalamavāpnōti sādhakō nātra saṁśayaḥ
Having brought the king under his control, he conquers nature and the assembly.
कारागृहगतं सद्यो राज्ञा वध्यं च मोचयेत् ॥ २३ ॥
ēkaviṁśativāraṁ ca paṭhēttāvaddināni yaḥ
This is the protective mantra of Ganesha, composed by Kashyapa,
राजदर्शनवेलायां पठेदेतत्त्रिवारतः ।
kārāgr̥hagataṁ sadyō rājñā vadhyaṁ ca mōcayēt
And also for Mudgala and the sage Mandavya.
स राजानं वशं नीत्वा प्रकृतीश्च सभां जयेत् ॥ २४ ॥
rājadarśanavēlāyāṁ paṭhēdētattrivārataḥ
He spoke to me out of compassion, saying, "This mantra grants all accomplishments."
इदं गणेशकवचं कश्यपेन समीरितम् ।
sa rājānaṁ vaśaṁ nītvā prakr̥tīśca sabhāṁ jayēt
It should not be given to one without devotion; it should be given to the faithful for auspiciousness.
मुद्गलाय च तेनाथ माण्डव्याय महर्षये ॥ २५ ॥
idaṁ gaṇēśakavacaṁ kaśyapēna samīritam
With this protection created, no obstacle will ever arise.
मह्यं स प्राह कृपया कवचं सर्वसिद्धिदम् ।
mudgalāya ca tēnātha māṇḍavyāya maharṣayē
From the fear of demons, asuras, bhutas, daityas, and danavas.
न देयं भक्तिहीनाय देयं श्रद्धावते शुभम् ॥ २६ ॥
mahyaṁ sa prāha kr̥payā kavacaṁ sarvasiddhidam
Thus, in the Shree Ganesha Purana, in the Uttarakhanda, in the chapter of childhood games, is the Ganesha Kavacha.
अनेनास्य कृता रक्षा न बाधाऽस्य भवेत्क्वचित् ।
na dēyaṁ bhaktihīnāya dēyaṁ śraddhāvatē śubham
—
राक्षसासुरभेतालदैत्यदानवसम्भवा ॥ २७ ॥
anēnāsya kr̥tā rakṣā na bādhā:'sya bhavētkvacit
—
इति श्रीगणेशपुराणे उत्तरखण्डे बालक्रीडायां षडशीतितमेऽध्याये गणेश कवचम् ।
rākṣasāsurabhētāladaityadānavasambhavā
