Sri Surya Kavacham 2 (Trilokya Mangalam)
The Sri Surya Kavacham 2 is a protective hymn dedicated to Surya, invoking his strength and safeguarding the devotee.
श्रीसूर्य उवाच । साम्ब साम्ब महाबाहो शृणु मे कवचं शुभम् ।
śrīsūrya uvāca
The great Sun God spoke.
त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलं नाम कवचं परमाद्भुतम् ॥ १ ॥
sāmba sāmba mahābāhō śr̥ṇu mē kavacaṁ śubham
O Samba, O mighty-armed one, listen to my auspicious armor.
यज्ज्ञात्वा मन्त्रवित् सम्यक् फलं प्राप्नोति निश्चितम् ।
trailōkyamaṅgalaṁ nāma kavacaṁ paramādbhutam
It is called the auspicious armor of the three worlds, and it is supremely wonderful.
यद्धृत्वा च महादेवो गणानामधिपोऽभवत् ॥ २ ॥
yajjñātvā mantravit samyak phalaṁ prāpnōti niścitam
One who knows this mantra well surely attains the desired results.
पठनाद्धारणाद्विष्णुः सर्वेषां पालकः सदा ।
yaddhr̥tvā ca mahādēvō gaṇānāmadhipō:'bhavat
By reciting it, the great God, the lord of the hosts, becomes favorable.
एवमिन्द्रादयः सर्वे सर्वैश्वर्यमवाप्नुयुः ॥ ३ ॥
paṭhanāddhāraṇādviṣṇuḥ sarvēṣāṁ pālakaḥ sadā
By reciting and holding it, Vishnu is always the protector of all.
कवचस्य ऋषिर्ब्रह्मा छन्दोऽनुष्टुबुदाहृतः ।
ēvamindrādayaḥ sarvē sarvaiśvaryamavāpnuyuḥ
In this way, all the gods, including Indra, will attain all prosperity.
श्रीसूर्यो देवता चात्र सर्वदेवनमस्कृतः ॥ ४ ॥
kavacasya r̥ṣirbrahmā chandō:'nuṣṭubudāhr̥taḥ
The sage of this armor is Brahma, and the meter is Anushtubh.
यश आरोग्यमोक्षेषु विनियोगः प्रकीर्तितः ।
śrīsūryō dēvatā cātra sarvadēvanamaskr̥taḥ
The great Sun God is the deity here, worshipped by all the gods.
प्रणवो मे शिरः पातु घृणिर्मे पातु भालकम् ॥ ५ ॥
yaśa ārōgyamōkṣēṣu viniyōgaḥ prakīrtitaḥ
The use of this armor is proclaimed for fame, health, and liberation.
सूर्योऽव्यान्नयनद्वन्द्वमादित्यः कर्णयुग्मकम् ।
praṇavō mē śiraḥ pātu ghr̥ṇirmē pātu bhālakam
May the Pranava protect my head, and may compassion protect my forehead.
अष्टाक्षरो महामन्त्रः सर्वाभीष्टफलप्रदः ॥ ६ ॥
sūryō:'vyānnayanadvandvamādityaḥ karṇayugmakam
May the Sun, the two-eyed Aditya, protect my ears.
ह्रीं बीजं मे मुखं पातु हृदयं भुवनेश्वरी ।
aṣṭākṣarō mahāmantraḥ sarvābhīṣṭaphalapradaḥ
The eight-syllable great mantra grants all desired fruits.
चन्द्रबिम्बं विंशदाद्यं पातु मे गुह्यदेशकम् ॥ ७ ॥
hrīṁ bījaṁ mē mukhaṁ pātu hr̥dayaṁ bhuvanēśvarī
May the seed "Hrim" protect my face, and may the Goddess of the world protect my heart.
अक्षरोऽसौ महामन्त्रः सर्वतन्त्रेषु गोपितः ।
candrabimbaṁ viṁśadādyaṁ pātu mē guhyadēśakam
May the moon-like deity, the one with twenty aspects, protect my secret place.
शिवो वह्निसमायुक्तो वामाक्षीबिन्दुभूषितः ॥ ८ ॥
akṣarō:'sau mahāmantraḥ sarvatantrēṣu gōpitaḥ
That imperishable great mantra is hidden in all the scriptures.
एकाक्षरो महामन्त्रः श्रीसूर्यस्य प्रकीर्तितः ।
śivō vahnisamāyuktō vāmākṣībindubhūṣitaḥ
Shiva, united with fire, adorned with the moon-like eye,
गुह्याद्गुह्यतरो मन्त्रो वाञ्छाचिन्तामणिः स्मृतः ॥ ९ ॥
ēkākṣarō mahāmantraḥ śrīsūryasya prakīrtitaḥ
The single-syllable great mantra is glorified by the sun.
शीर्षादिपादपर्यन्तं सदा पातु मनूत्तमः ।
guhyādguhyatarō mantrō vāñchācintāmaṇiḥ smr̥taḥ
From the most secret, the more secret mantra is remembered as the wish-fulfilling gem.
इति ते कथितं दिव्यं त्रिषु लोकेषु दुर्लभम् ॥ १० ॥
śīrṣādipādaparyantaṁ sadā pātu manūttamaḥ
May the supreme man protect from the head to the feet always.
श्रीप्रदं कान्तिदं नित्यं धनारोग्यविवर्धनम् ।
iti tē kathitaṁ divyaṁ triṣu lōkēṣu durlabham
Thus, this divine knowledge has been revealed, rare in the three worlds.
कुष्ठादिरोगशमनं महाव्याधिविनाशनम् ॥ ११ ॥
śrīpradaṁ kāntidaṁ nityaṁ dhanārōgyavivardhanam
It grants prosperity, beauty, and is eternal, enhancing wealth and health.
त्रिसन्ध्यं यः पठेन्नित्यमरोगी बलवान्भवेत् ।
kuṣṭhādirōgaśamanaṁ mahāvyādhivināśanam
It alleviates diseases like leprosy and destroys great ailments.
बहुना किमिहोक्तेन यद्यन्मनसि वर्तते ॥ १२ ॥
trisandhyaṁ yaḥ paṭhēnnityamarōgī balavānbhavēt
Whoever recites it three times daily will become free from illness and strong.
तत्तत्सर्वं भवेत्तस्य कवचस्य च धारणात् ।
bahunā kimihōktēna yadyanmanasi vartatē
What more can be said here, whatever is in the mind,
भूतप्रेतपिशाचाश्च यक्षगन्धर्वराक्षसाः ॥ १३ ॥
tattatsarvaṁ bhavēttasya kavacasya ca dhāraṇāt
All that will come to be through the holding of this shield.
ब्रह्मराक्षसवेताला न द्रष्टुमपि तं क्षमाः ।
bhūtaprētapiśācāśca yakṣagandharvarākṣasāḥ
Ghosts, spirits, and demons, as well as celestial beings and rakshasas,
दूरादेव पलायन्ते तस्य सङ्कीर्तनादपि ॥ १४ ॥
brahmarākṣasavētālā na draṣṭumapi taṁ kṣamāḥ
Cannot even see him, let alone endure him.
भूर्जपत्रे समालिख्य रोचनागुरुकुङ्कुमैः ।
dūrādēva palāyantē tasya saṅkīrtanādapi
From afar, they flee even at the sound of his chanting.
रविवारे च सङ्क्रान्त्यां सप्तम्यां च विशेषतः । धारयेत् साधकश्रेष्ठः स परो मे प्रियो भवेत् ॥ १५ ॥ [श्रीसूर्यस्य]
bhūrjapatrē samālikhya rōcanāgurukuṅkumaiḥ
Written on birch bark with the essence of beauty, saffron, and vermilion.
त्रिलोहमध्यगं कृत्वा धारयेद्दक्षिणे करे । शिखायामथवा कण्ठे सोऽपि सूर्यो न संशयः ॥ १६ ॥
ravivārē ca saṅkrāntyāṁ saptamyāṁ ca viśēṣataḥ
On Sunday, especially during the seventh lunar day of the month,
इति ते कथितं साम्ब त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलाभिधम् । कवचं दुर्लभं लोके तव स्नेहात् प्रकाशितम् ॥ १७ ॥
dhārayēt sādhakaśrēṣṭhaḥ sa parō mē priyō bhavēt
the supreme practitioner should hold this; may he become dear to me.
अज्ञात्वा कवचं दिव्यं यो जपेत् सूर्यमुत्तमम् । सिद्धिर्न जायते तस्य कल्पकोटिशतैरपि ॥ १८ ॥

इति श्रीब्रह्मयामले त्रैलोक्यमङ्गलं नाम श्री सूर्य कवचम् ॥
śikhāyāmathavā kaṇṭhē sō:'pi sūryō na saṁśayaḥ
Having made a connection with the three worlds,
Surya - सूर्य
iti tē kathitaṁ sāmba trailōkyamaṅgalābhidham
he should hold it in the right hand;

kavacaṁ durlabhaṁ lōkē tava snēhāt prakāśitam
whether on the head or around the neck,
