Sri Taramba (Tara) Hrudayam
The stotra expresses deep devotion to Goddess Tara, focusing on her heart and the qualities she embodies.
दशमहाविद्या स्तोत्राणि
śrī śiva uvāca
Shiva said,
श्री शिव उवाच ।
śr̥ṇu pārvati bhadraṁ tē lōkānāṁ hitakārakaṁ
"Listen, O Parvati, to the auspicious words that benefit all beings.
शृणु पार्वति भद्रं ते लोकानां हितकारकं । कथ्यते सर्वदा गोप्यं ताराहृदयमुत्तमम् ॥ १ ॥
kathyatē sarvadā gōpyaṁ tārāhr̥dayamuttamam
The supreme heart of Tara is always spoken of as a secret."
श्री पार्वत्युवाच । स्तोत्रं कथं समुत्पन्नं कृतं केन पुरा प्रभो ।
śrī pārvatyuvāca
Parvati replied,
कथ्यतां सर्ववृत्तान्तं कृपां कृत्वा ममोपरि ॥ २ ॥
stōtraṁ kathaṁ samutpannaṁ kr̥taṁ kēna purā prabhō
"How did this hymn come into being, and who composed it, O Lord?
श्री शिव उवाच ।
kathyatāṁ sarvavr̥ttāntaṁ kr̥pāṁ kr̥tvā mamōpari
Please narrate all the details, showing compassion towards me."
रणेदेवासुरे पूर्वं कृतमिन्द्रेण सुप्रिये । दुष्टशत्रुविनाशार्थं बल वृद्धि यशस्करम् ॥ ३ ॥
śrī śiva uvāca
Shiva said,
ओं अस्य श्रीमदुग्रतारा हृदय स्तोत्र मन्त्रस्य – श्री भैरव ऋषिः – अनुष्टुप्छन्दः – श्रीमदुग्रतारादेवता – स्त्रीं बीजं – हूम्शक्तिः – नमः कीलकं – सकलशत्रुविनाशार्थे जपे विनियोगः । करन्यासः –
raṇēdēvāsurē pūrvaṁ kr̥tamindrēṇa supriyē
"Long ago, in battle against the gods and demons, it was composed by Indra, my beloved,
ओं स्त्रीं अङ्गुष्ठाभ्यां नमः । ओं ह्रीं तर्जनीभ्यां नमः ।
duṣṭaśatruvināśārthaṁ bala vr̥ddhi yaśaskaram
To destroy the wicked enemies and to enhance strength and fame."
ओं हूं मध्यमाभ्य़ां नमः । ओं त्रीं अनामिकाभ्यां नमः ।
ōṁ asya śrīmadugratārā hr̥daya stōtra mantrasya – śrī bhairava r̥ṣiḥ – anuṣṭupchandaḥ – śrīmadugratārādēvatā – strīṁ bījaṁ – hūmśaktiḥ – namaḥ kīlakaṁ – sakalaśatruvināśārthē japē viniyōgaḥ
Om, this is the mantra of the hymn of the revered Tara's heart -
ओं ऐं कनिष्ठकाभ्य़ां नमः । ओं हंसः करतलकरपृष्ठाभ्यां नमः ।
karanyāsaḥ – ōṁ strīṁ aṅguṣṭhābhyāṁ namaḥ
The sage is Bhairava, the meter is Anushtubh, the deity is the revered Tara,
अङ्गन्यासः –
ōṁ hrīṁ tarjanībhyāṁ namaḥ
The seed is the feminine principle, the power is Hoom, the key is Namah,
ओं स्त्रीं हृदयाय नमः ।
ōṁ hūṁ madhyamābhẏāṁ namaḥ
For the purpose of destroying all enemies, this is the invocation."
ओं ह्रीं शिरसे स्वाहा । ओं हूं शिखायै वषट् ।
ōṁ trīṁ anāmikābhyāṁ namaḥ
Hand gesture (Karanyasa):
ओं त्रीं कवचाय हुं । ओं ऐं नेत्रत्रयाय वौषट् ।
ōṁ aiṁ kaniṣṭhakābhẏāṁ namaḥ
Om, I bow with my thumb to the feminine principle.
ओं हंसः अस्त्रायफट् । ध्यानम् ।
ōṁ haṁsaḥ karatalakarapr̥ṣṭhābhyāṁ namaḥ
Om, I bow with my index finger to the sound of glory.
ध्यायेत्कोटिदिवाकरद्युतिनिभां बालेन्दुयुक्छेखरां
aṅganyāsaḥ – ōṁ strīṁ hr̥dayāya namaḥ
Om, I bow with my middle finger to the sacred syllable.
रक्ताङ्गीं विकटां सुरक्तवसनां पूर्णेन्दुबिम्बाननां ।
ōṁ hrīṁ śirasē svāhā
Om, I bow with my ring finger to the divine essence.
पाशङ्खड्गमहाङ्कुशादि दधतीं दोर्भिश्चतुर्भिर्युतां
ōṁ hūṁ śikhāyai vaṣaṭ
Om, I bow with my little finger to the source of all creation.
नानाभूषणभूषितां भगवतीं तारां जगत्तारिणीं ॥ ४ ॥
ōṁ trīṁ kavacāya huṁ
Om, I bow to the swan with palms joined together.
एवं ध्यात्वा शुभां तारां ततस्तु हृदयं पठेत् । तारिणी तत्त्वनिष्ठानां सर्वतत्त्वप्रकाशिका ॥ ५ ॥
ōṁ aiṁ nētratrayāya vauṣaṭ
Offering of the limbs –
रामाभिन्नापदाशक्तिश्शत्रुनाशं करोतु मे । सर्वदाशत्रुसंरंभे तारा मे कुरुतां जयम् ॥ ६ ॥
ōṁ haṁsaḥ astrāyaphaṭ
Om, I bow to the goddess in my heart.
स्त्रीं त्रीं स्वरूपिणी देवी त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुता । तव स्नेहान्मयाख्यातं न पशूनां प्रकाशयेत् ॥ ७ ॥
dhyānam
Om, I offer to the crown.
शृणु देवि तवस्नेहात्तारानामानि तत्वतः । वर्णयिष्यामि गुप्तानि दुर्लभानि जगत्त्रये ॥ ८ ॥
dhyāyētkōṭidivākaradyutinibhāṁ bālēnduyukchēkharāṁ raktāṅgīṁ vikaṭāṁ suraktavasanāṁ pūrṇēndubimbānanāṁ
Om, I offer to the flame.
तारिणी तरला तारा त्रिरूपा तरणीप्रभा । तत्त्वरूपा महासाध्वी सर्वसज्जनपालिका ॥ ९ ॥
pāśaṅkhaḍgamahāṅkuśādi dadhatīṁ dōrbhiścaturbhiryutāṁ nānābhūṣaṇabhūṣitāṁ bhagavatīṁ tārāṁ jagattāriṇīṁ
Om, I offer to the armor.
रमणीया रजोरूपा जगत्सृष्टिकरी परा । तमोरूपा महामाया घोरारावा भयानका ॥ १० ॥
ēvaṁ dhyātvā śubhāṁ tārāṁ tatastu hr̥dayaṁ paṭhēt
Om, I offer to the three eyes.
कालरूपा कालिकाख्या जगद्विध्वंसकारिणी । तत्त्वज्ञाना परानन्ता तत्त्वज्ञानप्रदाऽनघा ॥ ११ ॥
tāriṇī tattvaniṣṭhānāṁ sarvatattvaprakāśikā
Om, I offer to the weapon.
रक्ताङ्गी रक्तवस्त्रा च रक्तमालासुशोभिता । सिद्धिलक्ष्मीश्च ब्रह्माणि महाकाली महालया ॥ १२ ॥
rāmābhinnāpadāśaktiśśatrunāśaṁ karōtu mē
Meditation:
नामान्येतानि ये मर्त्यास्सर्वदैकाग्रमानसाः । प्रपठन्ति प्रिये तेषां किङ्करत्वं करोम्यहम् ॥ १३ ॥
sarvadāśatrusaṁraṁbhē tārā mē kurutāṁ jayam
Meditate on the one who shines like a million suns, with a moon-like crown,
तारां तारपरान्देवीं तारकेश्वरपूजितां । तारिणीं भवपाथोधेरुग्रतारां भजाम्यहम् ॥ १४ ॥
strīṁ trīṁ svarūpiṇī dēvī triṣu lōkēṣu viśrutā
with a red body, fierce, adorned in beautiful garments, with a full moon-like face,
स्त्रीं ह्रीं हूं त्रीं फण्मन्त्रेण जलं जप्त्वाऽभिषेचयेत् । सर्वरोगाः प्रणश्यन्ति सत्यं सत्यं वदाम्यहम् ॥ १५ ॥
tava snēhānmayākhyātaṁ na paśūnāṁ prakāśayēt
holding a noose, a conch, a sword, and a goad, surrounded by four arms,
त्रीं स्वाहान्तैर्महामन्त्रैश्चन्दनं साधयेत्ततः । तिलकं कुरुते प्राज्ञो लोकोवश्योभवेत्प्रिये ॥ १६ ॥
śr̥ṇu dēvi tavasnēhāttārānāmāni tatvataḥ
adorned with various ornaments, the divine goddess, the savior of the universe.
स्त्रीं ह्रीं त्रीं स्वाहा मन्त्रेण श्मशानं भस्म मन्त्रयेत् । शत्रोर्गृहे प्रतिक्षिप्ते शत्रोर्मृत्युर्भविष्यति ॥ १७ ॥
varṇayiṣyāmi guptāni durlabhāni jagattrayē
Thus meditating on the auspicious Tara, one should recite in the heart:
ह्रीं हूं स्त्रीं फडन्तमन्त्रैः पुष्पं सम्शोध्यसप्तधा । उच्चाटनं करोत्याशु रिपूणां नैव सम्शयः ॥ १८ ॥
tāriṇī taralā tārā trirūpā taraṇīprabhā
May she, the savior, who is the essence of all truths, illuminate all truths.
स्त्रीं त्रीं ह्रीं मन्त्रवर्येण अक्षताश्चाभि मन्त्रिताः । तत्प्रतिक्षेपमात्रेण शीघ्रमायाति मानिनी ॥ १९ ॥
tattvarūpā mahāsādhvī sarvasajjanapālikā
May the power of the goddess, who is non-different from Rama, destroy my enemies.
हंसः ओं ह्रीं स्त्रीं हूं हंसः । इति मन्त्रेण जप्तेन शोधितं कज्जलं प्रिये ।
ramaṇīyā rajōrūpā jagatsr̥ṣṭikarī parā
In all battles with enemies, may Tara grant me victory.
तस्यैव तिलकं कृत्वा जगन्मोहं स वशं नयेत् ॥ २० ॥
tamōrūpā mahāmāyā ghōrārāvā bhayānakā
The goddess, who embodies the essence of the three, is renowned in all three worlds.
ताराया हृदयं देवि सर्वपापप्रणाशनं ।
kālarūpā kālikākhyā jagadvidhvaṁsakāriṇī
Your love is not to be revealed to the animals.
राजपेयादि यज्ञानां कोटि कोटि गुणोत्तरम् ॥ २१ ॥
tattvajñānā parānantā tattvajñānapradā:'naghā
Listen, goddess, from your love, I will speak the names of the stars in truth.
गङ्गादि सर्वतीर्थानां फलं कोटिगुणं स्मृतं ।
raktāṅgī raktavastrā ca raktamālāsuśōbhitā
I will describe the hidden, rare ones of the three worlds.
महादुःखे महारोगे सङ्कटे प्राणसम्शये ॥ २२ ॥
siddhilakṣmīśca brahmāṇi mahākālī mahālayā
The savior, the fluid star, the three-formed, the light of the boat.
महाभये महाघोरे पठेत् स्तोत्रं महोत्तमं ।
nāmānyētāni yē martyāssarvadaikāgramānasāḥ
The essence of truth, the great virtuous one, the protector of all good people.
सत्यं सत्यं मयोक्तन्ते पार्वति प्राणवल्लभे ॥ २३ ॥
prapaṭhanti priyē tēṣāṁ kiṅkaratvaṁ karōmyaham
The beautiful one, the form of passion, the supreme creator of the world.
गोपनीयं प्रयत्नेन न प्रकाश्यमिदं क्वचित् ॥ २४ ॥
tārāṁ tāraparāndēvīṁ tārakēśvarapūjitāṁ
The form of darkness, the great illusion, the terrifying roar, the dreadful one.
इति श्री भैरवीतन्त्रे शिवपार्वती संवादे श्रीमदुग्रताराहृदयं । दशमहाविद्या स्तोत्राणि
tāriṇīṁ bhavapāthōdhērugratārāṁ bhajāmyaham
The form of time, known as Kali, the destroyer of the world.
Dasa Mahavidya - दशमहाविद्या
strīṁ hrīṁ hūṁ trīṁ phaṇmantrēṇa jalaṁ japtvā:'bhiṣēcayēt
The knowledge of truth is infinite; those who impart knowledge of truth are without sin.
Sri Dhumavathi Hrudayam – श्री धूमावती हृदयम्
sarvarōgāḥ praṇaśyanti satyaṁ satyaṁ vadāmyaham
With a red body, clothed in red, adorned with a garland of red flowers.
Sri Dakshina Kali Hrudayam -1 (Mahakauthuhalam) – श्री दक्षिणकाली हृदय स्तोत्रम् -1 (महाकौतूहलम्)
trīṁ svāhāntairmahāmantraiścandanaṁ sādhayēttataḥ
And also the goddess of success, Brahmani, the great Kali, the great abode.
