The sage inquired - O Devi, what is your boon? Who speaks of you, fearless, beneath the moon?

As per my wisdom and strength, I shall praise, You, O Shive, in countless ways.

Krishna replied - Among all the gods, Your praises resound, breaking all odds.

Yet, the thousand names of Uma, Are not easily grasped, like a fleeting aroma.

With compassion, speak, O Lord, For where the devotee is, there is your accord.

The sage spoke - Listen, O Mother of the world, The thousand names of Uma are unfurled.

Those who perform the yajna with devotion, Will find no equal to this sacred notion.

In Kali's age, I sing your praise, O Shiva, in these troubled days.

O embodiment of fame, the glorious one, the bearer of renown and honor.

O Yogini, the essence of yoga, the one who is worshipped by yogis.

O beloved of sacrifice, the knower of the sacred rites, the one who guides the offerings.

O Goddess who grants the fruits of sacrifice, you embody the essence of the yajamana.

O united with yoga, the path of the divine, the one who is the priestess of the offerings.

O bound by the penance of the yogis, the one who brings fame and glory.

O red-hued, adorned in crimson, the one who is like a blooming red lotus.

O Queen of Queens, the regal one, the beloved of all noble hearts.

O royal form, the enchanting one, the mother of all that is sovereign.

Rama, with a face like the moon, adorned in crimson attire, is the embodiment of love.

Lakshmi, the enchanting goddess, is the playful one, the beloved of all.

She is the queen of the world, ever engaged in the service of all beings.

As the scribe, she writes with grace, the beloved of all authors.

She is the one who grants the highest goals, the one who reveals the essence of the world.

The mother of the Vedas, she is the knower of all scriptures, the giver of wisdom.

Beloved of the brave, she is the goddess of heroes, the mother of valiant warriors.

She is the embodiment of valor, with a pure face, bestowing blessings.

The goddess of speech, victorious and wise, resides in the hearts of the faithful.

The goddess of left-handed practices, she wields the power to dispel fears.

Worshipped as the goddess of valor, she is the wise protector of the brave.

Vast and universal, she is the mother of all, pervading the cosmos.

The healer of the world, she embodies the essence of all knowledge.

With large eyes and a beautiful form, she is the goddess of abundance.

The bestower of boons, she resides in the sacred grove of Vrindavan.

The goddess of power, she holds strength, bestowing energy upon her devotees.

She is the giver of auspiciousness, the one who brings forth blessings.

Beautiful and gracious, she wields the trident, embodying divine goodness.

With a heart full of compassion, she nourishes all beings with her grace.

In meditation, she is the essence of all, the beloved, the lotus, the embodiment of art.

O Devi, known as Malini, the one who conquers all, we bow to you in victory, the embodiment of triumph, the one who brings joy.

You dwell in the cremation ground, the three-eyed goddess, the beautiful one of the great cremation ground.

O Shankari, Bhairavi, and Shyama, you are the essence of Shankara, the divine form that embodies his spirit.

Beloved of Shiva, the devoted wife, the cherished one, you are the beloved of the Lord.

O Shiva's messenger, the joy of Shiva, the one who is worshipped by Shiva, you are the very embodiment of Shiva.

O Sharika, the night of Shiva, the auspicious light, the one with the beautiful form.

You are the embodiment of peace, eternal and tranquil, the one who dispels sorrow.

O Shishuta, the one who cradles the child, you are the lotus-eyed one of autumn.

You are the pure form, the auspicious one, the moon-faced, with a hundred eyes.

Easily approachable, with a beautiful dark form, you are the radiant power.

O beloved of the child, the night, you bestow the knowledge of Shiva.

You are the one who dwells in the six-fold chakra, the one of the six angles, the path of the six, the sixteen arts.

You are the one who differentiates the six chakras, residing in the six chakras.

O Saraswati, the essence of all, the embodiment of all powers, the divine radiance.

You are Savitri, the one with a thousand rays, the one who is always auspicious.

You are the one endowed with true knowledge, gentle and beloved of the sacred songs, the virtuous one.

You reside in the thousand-petaled lotus, the one who dispels all calamities.

You are the remover of all obstacles, the one who destroys all ailments.

You are the essence of all deities, the one who dispels the fear of all enemies.

O Shiva, you are the remover of all sorrows, the one who nullifies all curses.

O remover of all sins, who resides in the hearts of devotees, you are the dispeller of all afflictions.

You are the Goddess who grants all desires, bestowing prosperity upon all who seek your grace.

In the fulfillment of all wishes, you are the supreme goddess, ever-present and all-encompassing.

With a thousand names, you are the divine essence, the embodiment of all power, O Shiva.

Radiant like the sun, you shine with eternal wisdom, O auspicious one, ever ancient.

You illuminate the path of righteousness, bestowing fame and guiding the souls who seek you.

Graceful and blessed, you are the beloved of the auspicious, a jewel among all.

You are the embodiment of beauty, adorned with all virtues, nurturing the fruits of service.

You bring joy and bliss to all beings, the giver of happiness and delight.

Beloved of Hari, you dwell among the swans, radiant like the lotus in bloom.

O Goddess of mercy, you are the essence of compassion, bestowing liberation upon your devotees.

You are the giver of knowledge, the supreme teacher, embodying the power of wisdom.

To the wise, you are the form of knowledge, the seal of enlightenment, the true knower.

Om, Hrim, Srim, Hum, to Uma, the divine, we offer our homage.

In the eternal fullness, O Lord of Shankara, you are the life of all beings.

Grant me the wealth of knowledge and renunciation, O Parvati, as I seek your grace.

May my mother be the divine Uma, and my father the great Lord Maheshvara.

May all beings in the three worlds be devoted to the followers of Shiva.

This hymn of a thousand names of Uma brings joy and bliss to all who chant it.

Bestower of pleasures and liberation, a sacred boon, she dispels all afflictions.

Granting auspiciousness, sweet as nectar, she brings forth all auspicious endeavors.

The essence of all that is to be sung, she is Shiva, the embodiment of all desires fulfilled.

Bestowing divine pleasures and liberation, she is Shiva, enchanting the hearts of devotees.

Whoever reads this with devotion daily, may the Mother be ever pleased with them.

With a fan in her right hand, smiling, she holds a lotus in her left, radiant and pure.

Clad in red, the embodiment of compassion, may she always shine upon us.

Gauri, with a form like pure gold, adorned with two arms, graceful and divine.

With her left hand, she holds a blue lotus, ever radiant and resplendent.

Mother of the sun, shining with countless rays, she grants liberation and fulfillment.

With a beautiful face, the granter of boons, may we worship the goddess on her lion throne.

To the devotee of Shiva, may she grant all desires, ever present in the sacred space.

In dreams, she reveals her auspicious form, bestowing renunciation and blessings.

In the form of a crow, the goddess, desiring to bless her devotees, manifests as Om, fivefold and fearsome.

She is the river of abundance, bestowing fruits upon her devotees.

In the form of Om, she shines, a divine jewel of fivefold nature.

The devotee, endowed with divine grace, is known by the name of bliss.

The divine architect, creating a home, hewn from stone, she manifests.

Radiating in the form of Om, she is the granter of boons to her worshippers.

Clad in red, with a divine form, she is the victorious giver of boons.

O Uma, the embodiment of the sacred, I offer my complete devotion.

Victory! Victory! O Mother of the Universe! You who dispel fear, who rescue the world, who shine with divine beauty, Victory! Victory! Victory! You are the giver of eternal bliss, the pure form of consciousness.

You are the eternal, beautiful essence of the universe, the radiant sun among kings.

You are the primal sound, the name that transcends all, the destroyer of illusions, the one who is beyond the reach of worldly attachments.

You are the formless, the creator of all, the one who brings forth the laws of nature, the harbinger of destruction, O Lord of the three worlds.

You are the divine consort, the beloved of Lord Rama, the great illusion, O Uma.

You are the root of all nature, the source of creation, the mother of all beings.

You are the essence of Rama and Krishna, the beloved Sita, the enchanting Radha, who removes all obstacles.

You embody the ten forms of wisdom, the nine forms of Durga, wielding countless weapons.

You are the Mother of the six, the Yogini, manifesting in new and wondrous forms.

You dwell in the supreme abode, the source of great joy.

You are the one who roams the cremation grounds, the embodiment of the cosmic dance.

You are the gentle, captivating beauty, the essence of grace.

You are the fierce and terrible form, the embodiment of the cataclysm.

You are the essence of love and sweetness, the one who holds the poison in your mind.

You are adorned with jewels, the one who is the essence of all.

You reside in the root chakra, the source of all powers.

Beyond time, O Kali, you are the bountiful one, grant us your blessings.

You are the power, the bearer of strength, ever-present in all forms.

You reveal the essence of the sacred sound, O pure voice! You are the essence of the three Vedas.

O Mother, in my plight, I am besieged by a vast web of sorrow.

O ungrateful one, deceitful child, I seek refuge in You.

By Your own nature, O Mother, bestow upon me Your compassionate gaze.

O embodiment of mercy, grant me shelter beneath Your divine feet.

What praise can truly encompass You, O Ambika, who pervades all sound?

In all forms, may Your essence reside, manifesting in the hearts of beings.

O Shive, who calms all, may You bestow tranquility.

In this world, born of the essence of creation, I seek Your grace.

In the moments of devotion, may I be free from the snares of time.

In the midst of countless obstacles, I surrender to You, O Lord.

I am but a servant, O Supreme Goddess, grant me Your divine grace.

I know not the means of worship, nor the rituals, O Supreme Goddess.

I know not the mantras, nor the offerings, O Divine Sovereign.

Without devotion, without offerings, I stand before You, O Lord of the Devas.

Whatever I have worshipped, may it be fulfilled, O Devi, for You are the source.

Having performed the act of surrender, may the world be free from suffering.

The path that leads to You, O Ambika, is not known to the celestial beings.

In the face of my transgressions, I seek refuge in You, O Divine Mother.

Now, in this moment of humility, grant me what I desire, as You will.

With wisdom untainted, I bow in reverence, O Devi, for the deeds you have wrought, beyond measure.

May all that is desired be fulfilled, O Divine Mother, grant your grace, O Supreme Goddess.

O Kameshwari, Mother of the Universe, with a face radiant as the sun, I seek your favor.

Accept this humble offering, O Devi, with love and grace, O Supreme Goddess.

You, who dwell in the depths of secrets, I offer this prayer, O Goddess, may it be accepted.

May success be mine, O Devi, through your divine grace, O Maheshwari.

Thus, the desires of the devoted are fulfilled in completeness.

Let this offering be made with sincerity.

From the depths of the heart, awaken, O Divine, and grant the boon of wisdom.

O Mahamaya, Mother Uma, by your grace, I have been blessed to witness your divine form, not by my own merit, but by your divine will.

When the desire to compose the Uma Sahasranama arose in my heart, I instructed my beloved disciple, Shrimati Krishna Kaul, to share your glories, praises, and virtues.
