Lord Shiva described the power of Veereshwar Ling in Kashi Khand, Chapter 82. this form of lord shiva could be seen as a Shiv Linga in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
“Once upon a time, a kingdom was controlled by a very religiously inclined prince named Amitrajit.” He was a devout follower of Lord Vishnu, and he made it a rule that all citizens of his realm became devout believers of Lord Vishnu as well. The King welcomed Narad Rishi to his palace with great respect one day.
According to Narad Rishi’s instructions, King Amitrajit rescued one beautiful girl named Malayagandini from the clutches of one bad person. The King later wedded her, and they arrived in Kashi and were instantly married and pleased with the lovely surroundings.
She sent the infant to Vikata Devi to save the King. But no one wanted to kill the lovely lad, who was 16 years old at the time. The youngster performed extreme penance for Lord Shiva, and Lord Shiva appeared before him in the form of a Ling. Lord Shiva named this Ling Veereshwar Ling.
A person who conducts Pooja, Abhishek, and Archana of Veereshwar Ling, according to Lord Shiva, achieves all kinds of happiness, prosperity, and success. According to Kashi Khand, Chapter 83, anyone who conducts Veereshwar pooja receives the reward of performing three crore Lingas puja. It is deemed auspicious to worship this Ling without going to sleep or bed during Chaturdasi evenings.
Kashi Khand, Chapter 11, emphasizes the significance of doing pooja/Archana to Atma Veereshwar to be blessed with a child. Sage Vishwanar and his pious wife worshipped at different locations throughout Kashi before arriving at the Siddha Peeth of Atma Veereshwar. He had been performing all rituals and rites at this temple for many months, chanting a prayer called Abhilasha Ashtakam, when he noticed an eight-year-old boy standing near the Ling.
The sage began to worship the youngster with the same zeal that one would devote to Lord Shiva. The boy was none other than Lord Shiva himself, who commanded his disciples to recite Abhilasha Ashtakam for a year, as Sage Vishwanar did, and this will undoubtedly result in progeny for childless couples.
Although this Ling is referred to as Veereshwar in Kashi Khand, it is now known as Atma Veereshwar or Veereshwar’s soul.
