Legend
According to Kashi Khand, Chapter 82, once upon a time, a realm was controlled by a very religious ruler named Amitrajit. He was a devout follower of Lord Vishnu, and he made it a rule that all citizens of his realm became devout believers of Lord Vishnu too though. The King welcomed Narad Rishi to his palace with great respect one day.
According to Narad Rishi’s commands, King Amitrajit rescued one beautiful girl named Malayagandini from the clutches of one bad person. The King later married her, and they came to Kashi, where they were immediately pleased with the picturesque surroundings. Malayagandini was eventually bestowed with a lovely male child who was destined to reach the age of 16 shortly after birth. However, because he was born in unlucky planetary conjunction, the King’s Ministers advised the Queen that she must sacrifice the child or the King would perish.
She gave the infant to Vikata Devi in Pancha Mudra Maha Peeth to save the King. Vikata Devi summoned several Yoginis and asked them to transport the youngster to Matrika Devis, with whose approval the infant should be spared. As a result, the Yoginis brought the boy to Matrika Devis, who, upon seeing the divinity in the boy, directed the Yoginis to return the boy to Pancha Mudra Peet.
The Yoginis returned the youngster to the Pancha Mudra peeth, where he began to pray. In a nutshell, the youngster traveled briefly to heaven before returning. As Katyayini Devi, Vikata Devi is revered and known. Katyayini Devi is Maa Durga’s sixth manifestation. Because of the following incident, she was given this name.
Because the wickedness of the demon Mahishasur was intolerable on earth, Lords Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva contributed some of their energy to the creation of a Devi, who was then sent to destroy Mahishasur. She is known as Katyayini Devi since Sage Katyayan was the first to do her puja.
Wishes are always fulfilled for followers of Katyayini Devi. On the banks of the Kalindi Yamuna, the Gopis of Braj had done their puja to get Lord Krishna as their husband. She is revered in Braj as the supreme savior Goddess (Mathura-Vrindavan).
Katyayani Devi is considered to have a very straightforward, divine form. She has a glowing golden color. Katyayani Devi, this form carries four arms. Her lower right-hand grants desire as her upper right hand assumes a stance of assurance of safety or protection. She is holding a lotus blossom in her lower left hand and a sword in her upper left hand. She travels in a lion.
Katyayini Devi bestows blessings upon her followers who are free from all illnesses, grief, fear, and suffering. They give forth an unearthly force.
