In ancient times, a group of sixty beautiful girls, including Rohini, came to Kashi to worship Lord Shiva with great devotion. They reached the confluence of the Varuna and Ganga rivers and installed a Lingam called Nakshatreshwar, where they performed pooja of Lord Shiva. Impressed by their devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before them and asked for their wishes. The girls prayed that they desired a husband as powerful and handsome as Lord Shiva himself.
Granting their wish, Lord Shiva declared that all their wishes would be fulfilled, and they would reside in a celestial world even higher than Chandra Lok. Devotees who worship Nakshatreshwar Lingam are believed to be free from any afflictions caused by planets or Nakshatras in their horoscope. After their demise, they are destined to reach the same celestial world where these beautiful girls ordained by Lord Shiva to reside.
