Pallavaneeswaram Temple

Pallavaneeswaram Temple stands as one of the two Shivastalams in the ancient Chola seashore capital of Poompuhaar, alongside Tiruchchaaikkadu. This sacred site, the tenth in the series of Tevara Stalangal on the northern banks of the river Kaveri in the Chola region of Tamil Nadu, holds a unique place in history and devotion. Once a bustling Chola port, Poompuhaar has now transformed into a tourist attraction, with remnants of its glorious past submerged beneath the ocean. Notably, Poompuhaar is linked to the legendary tale of Kovalan and Kannaki, portrayed in the ancient Tamil work, Silappadikaaram.

The Temple:

Pallavaneeswaram Temple is a small yet significant place of worship, characterized by its five-tiered Rajagopuram and a single prakaram. The temple derives its name from its association with a Pallava king, reflecting its historical lineage. A notable aspect of this temple is its connection to Pattinathaar, believed to be an incarnation of Kubera, the Lord of Wealth. This association is commemorated during the annual Aadi festival, where a separate shrine for Pattinathaar is a prominent feature.
