Tirunelvaayil Temple, also known as Nelvayil Temple, is a sacred Hindu shrine situated near Chidambaram, in the vicinity of Tiruvetkalam, close to the Annamalai University. It holds the distinction of being the third Tevara Stalam on the northern banks of the river Kaveri in the Chola region of Tamil Nadu.
Architecture
Tirunelvaayil Temple is an east-facing temple with a five-tiered rajagopuram adorning its entrance. Just in front of the temple lies a temple tank, adding to the temple's serene ambiance. The outer circumambulatory path houses shrines dedicated to deities such as Ganesha, Murugan, and Bhairavar. The Ambal shrine within the temple faces south. Additionally, there is a shrine featuring images of Nataraja and Sivakami.
The temple boasts inscriptions from the Nayak period, showcasing its historical significance. It conducts five worship services each day, allowing devotees to offer their prayers and seek the divine blessings of Lord Shiva.
