What is Bhakti Movement?

The Bhakti Movement was a socio-religious movement that originated in medieval India around the 8th century AD and continued until the 17th century. It was a movement of devotion or bhakti towards a personal god or goddess and was primarily centered around the worship of Lord Vishnu and Shiva, though it also included other deities.

Why Bhakti movement happened?

The Bhakti Movement was a reaction against the ritualistic and hierarchical nature of traditional Hinduism, and sought to democratize religion by making it accessible to people from all castes and walks of life. The movement emphasized the importance of individual devotion and personal experience of the divine, as opposed to blind adherence to tradition or dogma.
