Pravritti

0

Pravritti refers to the path of worldly pursuits and actions, which includes fulfilling one's duties and responsibilities towards society, family, and oneself.

The concept of Pravritti

Pravritti is based on the concept of Dharma, which refers to one's duty and responsibility towards oneself, family, society, and the universe as a whole. Dharma is considered to be the foundation of a stable and harmonious society, and it is believed that following one's Dharma leads to happiness, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

In Pravritti, one is encouraged to fulfill their duties and responsibilities towards their family, society, and the world, while also engaging in ethical and moral conduct. This includes following the principles of Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (truthfulness), and Dharma (righteousness).

Concept of Pravritti in Literature

In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna discusses the concept of pravritti and encourages Arjuna to engage in his duties as a warrior and fulfill his role in society. However, he also emphasizes the importance of detachment and performing actions without attachment to the results, which is the key to spiritual growth.

In the Puranas and other Hindu scriptures, various stories and examples are given to illustrate the importance of pravritti and the role it plays in the overall spiritual development of an individual.

Pravritti

Three types of pravritti or paths of worldly activity and engagement in the external world.

Karma Yoga

This path involves performing selfless actions without attachment to the results. It emphasizes the importance of fulfilling one's duties and obligations towards society and family, while also being detached from the fruits of those actions. The Bhagavad Gita is a primary text that discusses and emphasizes Karma Yoga.

Bhakti Yoga

This path involves devotion and love towards a personal deity or God. It emphasizes the importance of surrendering to a higher power and developing a personal relationship with the divine. The Bhagavata Purana and various other texts are primary sources that discuss and emphasize Bhakti Yoga.

Raja Yoga

This path involves the practice of meditation, concentration, and control of the mind. It emphasizes the importance of self-discipline and self-realization through the control of one's thoughts and emotions. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are a primary text that discuss and emphasize Raja Yoga.
