धर्मः स्वनुष्ठितः पुंसां विष्वक्सेनकथासु यः। नोत्पादयेद्यदि रतिं श्रम एव हि केवलम्॥८॥

If (yadi) Dharma (dharmaḥ) which (yaḥ) is performed (svanuṣṭhitaḥ) by people (puṁsām) does not (na) produce (utpādayet) fondness (ratim) for the stories (kathāsu) of Viṣvaksena --an epithet of Viṣṇu-- (viṣvak-sena)1, (it is) just (kevalam) hard work and pain (śramaḥ)2 indeed (eva hi)||8||
