The object or purpose (arthaḥ) of (that) Dharma (dharmasya) (which) really (hi) confers final Beatitude or Liberation (āpavargyasya) does not (na) lead (upakalpate) to wealth (arthāya). (Besides,) it is said (smritaḥ) that for the one whose only end or aim (eka-antasya) is Dharma (dharma), wealth (arthasya) is not (na) for enjoying (lābhāya) pleasure(s) (kāmaḥ), undoubtedly (hi)1||9||
